SOMB 2007 cookie cutter top ten
10. Burial
9. Animal Collective
8. Kanye West
7. Jens Lenkman
6. Panda Bear
5. Arcade Fire
4. Spoon
3. The National
2. Radiohead
1. LCD Sound system

The steady rancher keeps his eye out for Logic bears and Taste wolves as the SOMB sheep graze at yet another trendy urban twee in 2007.

Soon, the pasture will be bare and all will be forgotten, only to be repeated next season (except for the 60% of Lenkman fans who will probably take their own lives before the 2008 SOMB list).

I will reply to montana, because for once I agree with him, this is the most sheep like list I've ever seen. Absolutely nothing in this list was a surprise album in any way shape or form. I like to see lists where I haven't heard at least 10 of the albums

If Montana had his way, this list would be a 100-way tie for first place

thanx mr. paul, for all the hard work, and keeping up gdb's precedence.
(and thanx to montana for not mucking up this thread, and for the people who didn't repond to montana, as well.)

All of this stuff is good.

Mods, just lock this shit now, please. It has nowhere to go but Montana.
Waterloo
much love Paul. Nick is hilarious.
Duff.
Was gonna ask Paul about the top 500, but I'm sure by now he's halfway through a bottle of tequila and surrounded by groupies. And he deserves to be.

9.38% of today's SOMB posts belong to me.

That's just fantastic.

If I can figure out how to get it out of Excel while being numbered from the row numbers, I'll post it. If I can't figure that out, I guess I'll just post it unnumbered which I think will be really bad to look at.
Ennui
Haha, what if that eagles thing made the list? The SOMB would cannibalize itself, most likely.
Ennui
Also, I WILL get to 1000 posts tonight. The most holy of nights.

Love this list or you hate music...

The stupid thing about Montana's whole sheep thing is that it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. OMG! The favourite 10 albums of the board made the top 10 of the list! How the fuck can that be right? That means some people liked the same albums! FUCK! Logic has been thrown to the wind! The taste wolves are devouring the flock!

And this NewGrass cunt would only be happy if there were at least four albums only two boarders had ever heard of, thereby invalidating the whole reason for the list. If you want that, read your own list with dick in hand and blinders on and be happy.

EDIT: Yeah, I know I shouldn't respond but fuck it - goodwill to all men and that shit. Right?

Let's have another one of these threads, damnit. I need to get to 10,000. This is week is awesome, I'm going to celebrate the birth of Christ, buy a bunch of records, get my cavities filled, have sex, get a haircut, watch Superbad, the whole shebang.

New Grass = boarder of the year, BTW.

in response to your ihatemusic post. I absolutely love music, it just doesn't happen to be bullshit music. How many of these albums will you be listening to 10 years from now, 1 or 2 maybe 3.

Yeah, we all need to get out of the flock, back underground, and check out more unique, crazy shit like the Eagles.

Oh the old, "he only listens to obscure music to be cool" insult. I listen to plenty of popular music, probably as much popular music as I do fucking obscure japanese psych folk. My list had a lot of recognizable names on it. I didn't say my list was the best, but jesus this list was the most predictable thing I've ever seen

Aside from cavities, this sounds a lot like me.

Except I'll be buying less spazzy noise rock. I might get me some Arthur Russell though, to make up for it.
Pavement Ist Rad
By the way, I Hate Music is a noise board where people generally don't listen to "indie rock," not for people who actually "hate music." If you want to talk about albums that very few people are going to stand listening to and that very few people have heard of, go there. Or Hipinion or ILM or wherever. Some people here love metal and noise and ambient, but they're not dicks to everybody else.

EDIT: Also, this is a list constructed from the lists of a bunch of people on this board. A lot of them have varied and unpredictable lists. Like mine. Go find my list. It's awesome. But if you're going to post here, you're going to have to deal with the fact that a lot of people like Spoon, but who really gives a fuck.

Indeed. Pitchfork would be very, very proud of SOMB.

The formatting on this isn't perfect as the length of the name sets off the numbers, but I don't care. Here are the top 500 albums. It goes: Album, total points number 1 votes, total votes. Also things may show up on it that don't match the eligibility. That's because it wasn't worth my time to check that on every album. I waited until the top 100.

I don't love metal noise and ambient. I love music. You just looked at my fucking rateyourmusic, or my lastfm. Neither of them have a dominance of any genre. Rateyourmusic is only music I own. I don't lsiten to obscure music on purpose I just happen to get a lot of random shit sent to me. I don't give a shit how many people listen to it.
r.i.p.
Yeah, how can someone complain about how predictable this board is? There were, what, like 1100 albums voted for?! That's about everything released in '007.

Indeed. Pitchfork would be very, very proud of SOMB.

in response to your ihatemusic post. I absolutely love music, it just doesn't happen to be bullshit music. How many of these albums will you be listening to 10 years from now, 1 or 2 maybe 3.

I can't predict what I'll be listening to in 10 years. Maybe I'll have disappeared completely up my own ass and sit there like a fucking curmudgeon bitching about predictability instead of actually sitting there listening to something like West Coast and loving the shit out of it.

you guys, this fighting is ruining the thread.

UselessRocker
Maybe it's the holiday spirit or the fact that I'm slightly buzzed, but I love all of you. Some more than others, but I won't name names because that'd be mean and elitist. This thread has inspired many a laugh. And for all the bitching about whatever band/artist/recordd not making it.... have you checked out year-end lists elsewhere? This is a better, more varied list than the ones most publications and sites have. This board isn't 'sheep' for liking Jens, Radiohead, Panda Bear and LCD. Those same albums are topping other lists. Maybe they're actually good records or at least records that appeal to a lot of people maybe? Whatever, no album on this list is as good as The Long Run and deep in our hearts, we all know that.

It really is a joyous season, isn't it? Not one album from my top five made the SOMB 100. You know you're in a good place musically when that happens.

I don't ever wonder that, but I know when music is vapid, and only fun. For example I've been listening to Maritime - We, The Vehicles a lot lately, knowing it's just vapid pop, I doubt I'll be listening to this in a few years, just like most apples in stereo albums.
The Luscious Phil
We've been through this before New Grass. Sure the top ten is sorta predictable (but no, not really, but you're dick, so I'll concede that argument now, cuz it is not worth it, and anyone that cannot understand how group top ten list works, then you should not be allowed on the interweb) BUT, look the complete top 100, some awesome shit has been posted, and if you can't appreciate that, I just dont see why you come here. The top 100 is varied across tons of genres, and tastes. And if you find the whole 100 predictable and boring, you spend way too much time thinking about these things.

Damn it, dudes not sure what to listen to right now, as the list counted down I had some solid ideas of what to do, but i think I might just spin some Wolves in the Throne Room as the dark and snowy night.

Why waste your time if you perceive it isn't good enough for repeated listens, wether ten years or a month?

Pretty picture.

It really is a joyous season, isn't it? Not one album from my top five made the SOMB 100. You know you're in a good place musically when that happens.

Happy Holidays!

Maybe WalMart has a board?

I tried, but your sison wouldn't let me register.

I don't ever wonder that, but I know when music is vapid, and only fun. For example I've been listening to Maritime - We, The Vehicles a lot lately, knowing it's just vapid pop, I doubt I'll be listening to this in a few years, just like most apples in stereo albums.

you don't quite grasp the concept of enjoying music do you? I am also concerned about what you consider vapid pop.

Anyways, I'll leave it alone. Let's not clog the year end list with this nonsense.

Damn it, dudes not sure what to listen to right now, as the list counted down I had some solid ideas of what to do, but i think I might just spin some Wolves in the Throne Room as the dark and snowy night.

uh I don't see how I've been a dick, I pointed something out and people attack me. Just like the other post I defended an album and got attacked for it. I really haven't at all been a dick.
