Funny--I got a total Geddy Lee vibe from the sport-coat clad high schooler working the info table at the Minnesota DFL caucus last night.

Total Geddy Lee vibe.

did he hand you the 'i voted sticker' while playing the keyboard with one hand?
Seamus
Yeah! Were you there?! That's totally what he did! Then he started shrieking something about Cygnus X-I or some shit. I dunno, I had to get home and get my kids to bed.
Angrimorfee
I saw him there, dude... he was tabulating the Romney votes in the districts....

"one, zero, zero, one, zero, zero..." wink.gif
Seamus
Whoa--that has to be the first time I've seen "The Body Electric" referenced...anywhere!

Listen, kids, I was diggin' on Rush waaaaaaay before it was fashionable to dig Rush. Wait, it's still not fashionable?! How can that be? What about Freaks And Geeks?

Hips
looks like there is some brain sharing going down on the somb.

Neil had such a great waxed Daniel Day Lewis in "There Will be Blood" moustache in those days.

I work as a land use attorney and daily address issues that arise under California's Subdivision Map Act. Every time the term comes up, I hear Alex Lifeson's flat, affect-free monotone reciting "Subdivisions!" I usually have to stifle giggles in these situations.

Lord. Rush looked gayer than Queen. That is hilarious.

Anybody know where the name Geddy came from?

[Yawn], yes. I believe his grandmother had a particular way of pronouncing his given name--Gary.

Geddy is a way cooler rock name, anyway.

Seamus
And, I'm pretty sure "Lifeson" (as in Alex Lifeson) is the English translation of Alex's Russian surname.

Okay...back to 2008.

I got a Rush calendar for Christmas from a friend who thinks I'm a dork for liking them...

It's full of pictures like this. 2008 is gonna be a pretty hilarious year on my wall.

A calendar full of 70s-era Rush photos?! I want one! Indeed, hilarity should ensue each and every month.

Geddy's blown back hair reminds me of a cover band I saw playing behind the bar at Gold Strike in Tunica last month. Lead singer dude performed in front of a fan to achieve the perpetual windy music video look. That alone was almost worth the $$$ I donated playing poker.

Always a great move. There's a Native American band that I always seem to catch when I'm down in Carefree, Arizona-- for that art fair they put on--and their drummer works a fan. Very dramatic, when mixed with the synthesizer/fan flute ambiance.

Dude: do you remember the fog machine/strobe light/black light days in Creepy D? Good times. (I know you are going to immediately think of that Cubs game keg party)

This is one of those shows that, years from now, everyone will say they were at--to the point where you'd swear that apartment must have been the size of Madison Square Garden.

That fog machine did get abused.

It's a bit "foggy", but I think I was the culprit at that party. I kept that thing on high for way too long, if I remember correctly. Those were the days I used all kinds of F'd up delay effects on my bass in the "pirate fog coming off of Lake Michigan" or whatever the hell weird shit GD had going at the time. I remember Greg jumping around on a big couch during that gig...
