Police called as punk band wipe excrement on fan's face
Dirty smear induces pub brawl in Newcastle
Feb 12, 2008
Mark Wardlaw, lead singer with Tyneside punk band Pills From America, wiped a fan’s face with his excrement during a gig last weekend (February 9), causing a fight and the police to be called.
During his band’s set at the Cumberland Arms pub in Newcastle, Wardlaw placed his hand inside his underwear then proceeded to wipe a fan’s face with excrement he had removed from his undergarments.
The fan responded by punching Wardlaw, sparking a brawl in the pub. Police were called and Mark Pennington, another member of the band, was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Wardlaw defended his actions, telling the Metro: “We're a punk band. Everything we do is improvised. We've done sex acts on stage and I've eaten lightbulbs.”
A spokesperson for The Cumberland Arms said staff at the establishment were “disgusted”.
