I saw Elliott do that song where he forgot a couple of lyrics right before that. So then he said the "'cause he's fuckin' up even the simplest lines" part, shaking his head and smiling, laughing at himself.

good question, although i only know two of his records really well (either/or and XO)....
i love baby britain for being about as close to a '65-67-era beatles song as anyone has ever written.
either/or is a total gamble, there's about 5 songs vying for that title.
i really should get more of his stuff. where should i go next?

God dammit, Pinkerton. I have to go to the dentist in a few minutes and now this thread has me thinking about old memories of seeing Elliott live and Elliott memories with old friends and girlfriends and I'm getting all emotional and what not.

if yuou like the more beatle-y stuff you'd probably have to go with figure 8.
but youd be best getting the entire catalog really. and spin xo a few more hundred times.

i acutally wouldn't say i like it more, i probably do prefer the lo-fi stuff. however, i really can't think of a better imitation of the beatles from that era than baby britain, and he should be acknowledged for that alone.

Hazzah an Elliott thread! Goddamn I love the man.
Seconding or thirding or whatever-ing XO as a masterpiece. I can't even guess how many times I've listened to that record. Also, it's been repessed and you can pick up the XO and Fig 8 LPs here:
http://www.auralexploits.com/artist_29.htmAlso, I'm really in love with the alternative version of Pretty Mary K, but not the one on New Moon, that same version just without the drums. SO good.
And finally, I think Punch and Judy is actually a perfect song. PERFECT.
