Two more that have recently squirmed into my affections:
Late of the Pier - Fantasy Black Channel: See Mitchell/Clem's thread for links. It comes across like one of those Nintendocore bands making a dayglo synth pop album.
The Old Believers - Eight Golden Greats: Dipping back into my bag of glib comparisons, I'd say this is M. Ward as reimagined by Tim Rutili. Except there's a girl singing as well. They both have voices like honey and the songs are the same sort of transplanted 1950s Americana except with all kinds of rattling percussion and electronic tweaks. Fantastic songs and the production puts it way over the top.

This is currently edging out SKM's April as my favorite of the year. Will Oldham doesn't get enough praise for building up the body of work that he has. From Palace's debut to Lie Down, he's been as consistent quality as anyone in music. Over 15+ years, there's not a single bum record in there. He can do stark, dark and quiet, and he can do rollicking, upbeat and joyful. I've already bought 6 copies of this record and am giving it to all sorts of people. Beat that, Kozelek.
Bonny Prince Billy has a habit of sending promos to radio stations WITHOUT the song titles listed ANYWHERE on the cd or case.

Glad to see some love for this on the board.

you are absolutely spot on, actually, I heard it when it first leaked and i was just over-ecstatic about a new fucked up album, just because hidden world was so damn good. I saw them live, i sat on it, and yes, it did kind of wear out relatively quickly, but so far 2008 hasn't offered anything worth mentioning, and my love for hidden world is so completely unwavering that i look at the chemistry of common life in in the shadow of HW and contextually it sounds just fine. but hidden world it isn't. These are awesome records.
Can't really appreciate shit like Hospitals and Billy Bao, it all seems kind of unremarkable. I mean, in theory I should love any lo-fi noise vomit like Hospitals or any nihilistic Brainbombs style downer punk like Billy Bao. But nah, I mean, I can't get past the fact that the former is so much less interesting than
Twin Infinitives or that the latter just
sounds cool and doesn't do anything. Seems like the only people ranking that shit high would be ultra hardcore RYM-ers or Terminal Boredom types who go for anything garage or lo-fi these days, even though very few of those records aren't boring as shit.
I'll never understand it.
