Yeah, it's getting close to that time. All I have to say is that the new self-titled Goodnight Loving album is fantastic. Like Reigning Sound covering Music from Big Pink. Sorta.

Let's see your top 5 Mitch.

You'll see it when I vote, I don't feel the need to rank every album I listen to and then post about it (I tend to rank by meself)

What would you do if they took the laugh.gif smiley away from you?

everyone is shocked by Chinese Democracy.

Possibly cause they don't think it'll actually be a 2008 release, but also because it's guns and roses, and this is 2008. and you're montana.

The Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath

Was that last year, or am I getting old?

Or both?

sonic, have you listened to that paavorharju album yet? it won't make my top ten, but it'll be there somewhere, probably. and i have a feeling that it'll be a little more essential for you.

also, one of the best albums this year that no one is talking about is jessica lea mayfield - with blasphemy so heartfelt.

it's produced by one of the dudes from the black keys, and it's just a really atmospheric and emotional take on americana. great rainy day music.

I couldn't find that paavorharju album. Did you post it a while back? I don't recall.

In regards to the Jessica Lea Mayfield album, I would love to hear this. I think Attack and Release is the best shit of the year and I really love anything regarding the stuff they do. I'll try to find it.

Also, Bedlam came out this year. You must be getting old.

By my count there are only four albums left that I really want to hear this year: Max Tundra, Helios, Fennesz, and Kanye... and three of the four are in the mail... so within a few weeks I think I will have my list set.

This is true, but it's not a bad thing with this album. Also really nice night walk music. Barefoot Pilgrims is probably in the top ten songs of the year, imo. But yeah... if you don't like sleepy music, then I definitely wouldn't recommend White Hinterland.

Looks like I'm solid on my top 20 now. It doesn't look like there's anything I haven't heard all the way through that's gonna top these.

Which is to say, as I divide my albums into "albums I liked every song on" and "albums I like a percentage of songs on", I've already listened to at least the first couple songs on everything else, so I know they'll at least have to place below these.

Working on the artwork for the mix cd of these 20 right now:

1. The Heavy - Great Vengeance and the Furious Fire
2. Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV
3. Beck - Modern Guilt
4. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
5. Firewater - The Golden Hour
6. John Zorn - The Dreamers
7. This Will Destroy You - This Will Destroy You
8. Joseph Arthur - Could We Survive (EP)
9. Drive By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark
10. Black Keys - Attack and Release
11. Black Angels - Directions to Seek a Ghost
12. Girl Talk - Feed The Animals
13. Mike Patton - A Perfect Place (EP)
14. Dub Trio - Another Sound Is Dying
15. Little Jackie - The Stoop
16. Bar Kokhba - Lucifer: Book of Angels Volume 10
17. Backyard Tire Fire - The Places We Lived
18. Thievery Corporation - Radio Retaliation
19. Baby Charles - Baby Charles
20. King Khan & the Shrines - The Supreme Genius of King Khan and the Shrines

This will be tweeked for our list. EPs, and I didn't realize that king khan was a reissue. I hadn't heard it before. Are the tracks re-recorded? it flows pretty well. I need to listen to it more, that's the only reason for the low ranking. I need to listen to King Khan, Baby Charles, Backyard Tire Fire and Little Jackie more.

I haven't read anything of the SOMB for a few weeks but people who haven't must listen to this :

Apes and Androids : Blood Moon

This is insanely good.
August West
Here's what I'm working with, I think. Definitely subject to change:

1. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
2. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
3. Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
4. Sun Kil Moon - April
5. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
6. David Byrne and Brian Eno - Everything that Happens Will Happen Today
7. TV on the Radio - Dear Science
8. Deerhunter - Microcastle/Weird Era Cont.
9. Kanye West - 808s and Heartbreak
10. {{{Sunset}}} - The Glowing City
