the quality of that leak is a little poor compared to the actual album, just a heads up.

Other than the two songs they released in advance of the record, the hooks just aren't there for me. The last album reached out and grabbed me immediately. With the new record, I feel like I'm waiting for something to happen in a lot of the songs and then they're over. I need to give this thing a lot of time.

the two singles are easily the songs most reminiscent of MOF...the rest are builders and i think thats what scott was aiming for...

apparently my buddies welcome to ashley are trying to get put on the bill for the metro show...which would be sweet...anyone know if theyre trying to bring jetpacks along for this tour?

Thanks to Joanna Newsom, I still haven't had time to listen to this. I'm excited about the record, but I'm concerned that I might be disappointed. I got into MOF right at the time of bad breakup, so it's almost inevitable this won't have the same kind of emotional/physical resonance as that one.

would have been a great album closer..

Does anyone know if an mp3 version has leaked yet? I can't put m4a's on my portable and don't have time to give this a proper listen at home.

I have no idea what to think, first listen in. why do they sound like arcade fire and wolf parade?

This is the free audio converter I use. It does m4a to mp3 along with a bunch of other file types.

i think i hate this record.

damn it.

First listen: pretty lackluster. Not a single song sticks out.

Thanks. I found a copy this morning before coming here but this might come in hand in the future.

This album is fantastic. Time will tell if it's actually better than Midnight Organ Fight but it has every chance to be.

yeah, I like this a lot. To those who seem to think this is worlds apart from their last one, what are you hearing or not hearing that I am or am not. Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me.

VO with bonus tracks is up on a site that rhymes with BORDO

I can understand the production complaints i guess, but the songs are all here.

That's what I'm saying. Realistically, if the production bothers you (I personally think it suits them well - they'd make good radio fodder) then this should be a 7.0 or so to MOF's 8.5+

But it's still a collection of good songs, imo.

basically, it sounds like they've taken everything I loved about their sound on the Midnight Organ Fight--namely the folky undercurrent, the seemingly tongue-in-cheek crassness of the lyrics, and... well, memorable songs--and replaced it with tired Arcade Fire and Spencer Krug-isms. Great if you dig that kind of shit, but I don't.

i really don't hear Arcade Fire or Wolf Parade in this at all... anybody else?

Eh, it's a bit heavy on the bombast. I get what he's saying.

The songs just aren't really there for me. I'm gonna give it another spin.
C.I.
what mostly inspired the comparison is the end of "The Lonliness and the Scream." sounds like it could have come from mid-00's, Canadian indie rock bands, to me. it's not inherently a bad thing, I just have no need for it.
August West
Just listened again. I can't believe someone would think this is as good as Midnight Organ Fight.

Anyone notice that the verse for "The Wrestle" sounds almost identical to "Good Arms Vs. Bad Arms?"

i like this a LOT, but it's def not as good as Sing The Greys (my fave FR album still) or MOF

Wow, Sing the Greys is your favorite? That's interesting.

I need to go back to that one.

As for liking this as much as MOF, I'm not ready to say that I do, really. That was one of my favorite albums of the decade, really. But this is a really good album.

I suppose I'm starting to hear a little bit of Arcade Fire bombast, but only here and there. Overall, though, this is a solid album. I see myself getting a lot of mileage out of this one.
August West
Okay, I like "Skip the Youth" and "Foot Shooter." That's about it.

The problem I am running into with this record is the sort of redemptive, regenerative lyrical theme running it, which to me just isn't very interesting. The whole throw away your possesions/swim out into the ocean/date a new chick/take new chances vibe is strikingly cheesy, especially considering how tastefully they managed to temper the cheese on the last record. That coupled with an undeniably overwrought musical approach on a number of songs is really turning me off. I don't know. I'm disappointed, and I hope it will grow on me, but that's how I feel at the moment.

it's awfully close between Greys & MOF. i was a little let down by MOF at first compared to Greys, but quickly got over that. this one is fairly close to those 2 for me though too tho, it's not like i think it's some huge drop.

This is a pretty nice album, if a bit generic. Sounds like it could be rewarding if I were in the mood for it. I'll have to make sure my college roommates don't find it or they'll likely never stop playing it.

Considering the length of this thread I'm kind of shocked more folks haven't chimed in about the new album.

maybe not everyone's heard it? Maybe they think we're still talking about Midnight Organ Fight? I dunno.

saw them last night in bristol, hadn't realised they had added gordon skene from make model to the line up, & he makes a difference live, much better than last time i saw them, though that was as a support band in a bigger venue
there was a great atmosphere, they really well received, and were clearly up to have a very good time, great performance & hearing the new songs live has improved them, though time spent with mixed drinks prior to the gig was rewarding anyway

looking forward to watching them grow

The Greatest Cape
These guys played at my workplace last week

They were fantastic but it was really strange how the audience was singing along to every single song. It was especially jarring when they forgot the words and kind of mumbled along, and when Scott was pouring out his soul on acoustic version of Poke it really felt cloying and unpleasant.

Has this happened to anyone else? I can see their songs inspiring such a communal, cathartic reaction but it often felt very awkward to me...

Just noticed the Metro show is sold out.

I'm going to a small music festival in Glasgow this weekend, 60% of the local bands playing sound like FR or We Were Promised Jetpacks.

Could anyone re-up? thanks...

Reverential silence is for symphonies and operas. This is a rock concert. When you're pouring out your soul in front of an audience of strangers, it's reassuring to get some validation back from them; that the people out there are not only listening to your message but hanging on your every word.
