i guess they only have an EP released and 101 copies were pressed. i downloaded my own "bootleg" version of the EP by grabbing their files from their myspace page using that FILEH2D.com thing, but they are only at 96k, so yeah, not perfect. they remind me of early REM and all those C86 bands. it's really good.

On the other hand, Empty Bottle has both FR shows still listed on their page, as well as "special surprise guest" on the night of 6/1 at the Bottle itself. Which Do Division Fest performer might that be?

Yeah, they're good. They're really, really good.
Frightened Rabbit (or Frightened Rabbits as the set times list posted on the door read) are a different band in live performance than on record. But different isn't better or worse. Different is just completely uninhibited, all heart and all guts, bashing and thrashing their way through most of The Midnight Organ Fight in order (no "The Twist", "Floating in the Forth" or "Poke" or interludes). Scott singing himself hoarse, with Grant simultaneously providing harmony while beating his drumkit into the ground. A three guitar attack, raining sweat with each strum and head shake. Highlights: well, most everything, but especially "Keep Yourself Warm" and the piledriving over and out of "The Greys" and "Square 9".
You have two more times to see them in Chicago in the next two weeks. Don't miss them.

seriously, they just keep getting better and better...
Scott's voice was actually in great shape tonite and Grant is just such an amazing and completely fierce drummer. he is an absolute maniac back there, making crazy faces, air-drumming, singing nice harmonies, and when he hits the toms the whole room shakes. he reminded me of young Larry Mullen Jr crossed with Steven Drozd at times... actually the whole band was giving off an early U2 vibe during a few songs.
i don't know how the heck they keep getting heavier every time i see them. maybe it's because of the additional 3rd guitar, but i swear, there were some genuine hammer-of-the-gods heaviness moments tonite.
what a great band. all heart and sweat and guts and blood.
i'm so proud of them.

I can't imagine you being disappointed in this, especially live. They just bring so much passion and love of what they do into their performance. A $5 donation at Do Division on Sunday and a free show at Empty Bottle on 6/12 seem like low risk opportunities to check them out, and walk away a fan. If it happened to Yancy, it can happen to you!

Didn't mean to suggest otherwise. It certainly wasn't close to being shot, but he was bringing a raspier and more urgent quality to his singing last night, particularly on "My Backwards Walk" and "Keep Yourself Warm".
Yes, FR is fast becoming one of my favorite bands on the planet right now.

Yeah. I'm honestly not crazy about these guys on record. I've listened to the first album once and like half of the second. But live? Hammer of the gods, like Simakos said. They might lose some of that power outdoors; no walls to compress Grant's absolutely massive fucking drums. But I'll be there regardless.
