I think I have some impacted wisdom teeth coming home to roost. A normal guy would probably just go get it checked out, but my lack of money and fear of dentistry has me just attempting to deal with it 10 Ibuprofens at a time. So anyway, for a good portion of the last 48 hours I've been sitting here doped up leaning my face on an icepack listening to The Midnight Organ Fight. My face feels like Scott Hutchison's heart on this record. In the midst of this, an ex-girlfriend called to invite me to some Christmas party and I was tempted to text her: "Well, is that you in front of me coming back for even more of exactly the same?" until better judgement stopped me.
I feel better and better and worse and then better.

Do you guys think there's a good chance that, this time next year, this band is popular enough to count as mainstream? Like more popular than Spoon, but less popular than the Shins. Maybe around Sufjan level.
I do.

you were warned, and right here in this very forum! doh!
well... you can drive to Urbana or Ann Arbor, if ya'd like. Also, we've just confirmed a few shows at the end of the run... here's the entire tour:
01/16/09 Fri Philadelphia, PA Johnny Brenda's
01/17/09 Sat New York, NY Bowery Ballroom
01/18/09 Sun Allston, MA Great Scott
01/19/09 Mon Washington, DC Rock And Roll Hotel
01/20/09 Tue Baltimore, MD Talking Head
01/22/09 Thu Urbana, IL Courtyard Cafe
01/23/09 Fri Ames, IA Maintenance Shop
01/24/09 Sat Chicago, IL Empty Bottle
01/25/09 Sun Ann Arbor, MI Blind Pig
01/26/09 Mon Pittsburgh, PA Carnegie Mellon University- Rangos Ballroom
01/27/09 Tue Harrisburg, PA The Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Company (FREE)
01/28/09 Wed Charlottesville, VA Is Venue
01/29/09 Thurs Philadelphia, PA Reward Boutique (acoustic) (FREE)
02/01/09 Sun New York, NY Le Poisson Rouge (all request acoustic show)
Empty Bottle and Bowery Ballroom are sold out... Johnny Brenda's, Great Scott, and Rock And Roll Hotel will absolutely sell out. I don't know what to expect in Baltimore, Ann Arbor, anc Charlottesville, but i'm sure it won't sell out. Harrisburg is a free show in a big room, so... that won't hit capacity. The Reward Boutique show in Philly is free, but there will definitely be a point when people will get turned away. And tickets for the Le Poisson Rouge acoustic show haven't even gone on sale yet, but... as soon as they do go on sale, it will sell out fast. seated venue, band playing only requests... no set list!
and, for reals... there will definitely not be any more shows added. i know i had said that before, but then things changed, but... airplane tickets are purchased, plans have been made... this is the real final version, and the band really won't be back until end o' summer at the earliest.
ok, whew. and... now that i've said all that... the band just played the quintessential Frightened Rabbit show: 2:00 AM on Saturday night at Barfly in Glasgow, they blasted through 7 FR songs and a cover of Shitdisco's "I Know Kung Fu" to a drunken crowd of pogo-ers. it was like nothing i've ever seen... truly, after the 75-100 shows i've seen this band play (and 6 or 7 of those in glasgow) this was the one to which all others will now be compared. seriously, just... wow.
oh, and... to make the topical, the boys are going to record a session for Sound Opinions while in Chicago! imagine that!

Boston and DC are both VERY near to selling out. you're damn lucky to get those 2 tickets. really damn lucky.
Johnny Brenda's in Philly is getting there, but probably won't sell out until like the 14th or so. that's just a guess... don't quote me on that.
what i DO need to warn people is that the LPR acoustic show in NYC is selling FAST. like... it'll be sold out by the 16th i would guess, if it keeps going at this pace. so... if you know any NYC'ers, make sure they don't sleep on it.
it's kinda amazing what's happening. presenting a whole new world of problems (there's some guy on craigslist trying to sell 2 tickets to the bowery ballroom show for $189. i'm sure he's not thinking he'll really get that much, but... it's still pretty eye-popping to see!)
anyway, yeah... i feel for you chicago folks that are closed out, but... i just don't think there's anything we can do. we're looking at 13 shows and 4 radio sessions in 15 days from the 15th through the 29th. it's approaching what Tour Managers call "hellish".

do you think this is happening because they have been popping up on more than a few end of year lists or because their songs are in those silly tv shows? or maybe because you are simply an awesome manager?
seriously, how do you account for this sudden new interest? i was even surprised when you first mentioned that the Empty Bottle was close to selling out.

i don't think it's any of those, actually. i think this is just "proof" that there are two ways to stir the pot, one way is, say, the Glasvegas way (which is just a big lotto ball shakearound), and the other way is the Frightened Rabbit way (which is like a wooden stick and nice gallon of thick paint). The nice thing about the Frightened Rabbit way is that once it gets going, it's
really hard to get it to stop.
and i'm not sure it's all entirely new interest. how many times have they played Chicago, Boston, NYC, Philly at this point? like at least 8 times in Chicago, at least 15 NYC shows, at least 6 Philly shows.
still... it is amazing. and crazy. and feels really out of control, but in a good way. like... moving forward we need to start trying to put some anti-scalping roadblocks in place. really incredible.

purely hypothetical question, chicago SOMBIES...
do you think people would attend a NOON all request acoustic show on Sunday, January 25th at Empty Bottle, if Frightened Rabbit were dumb enough to attempt it?
again, purely hypothetical. seriously. i'm just curious to know what ya'll would think.
Would certainly be there for that, were it to happen.

Do I think people would attend a noon Sunday show. YES.
Do I think this person, me, would attend a noon Sunday show. NO.
And not because I don't want to. I have a two-day, all-day seminar/class on both Saturday and Sunday. I'm lucky enough that Saturday night's show is late enough for me to attend that. So hopefully FR isn't dumb enough to attempt a noon Sunday show. You know, for selfish reasons.

OK, Chicago. you've begged, and Frightened Rabbit have answered:
early show added! January 24th.
the timing / lineups for the shows will now be:
6:30pm Doors open, early show
7:00pm Arc in Round
8:00pm Frightened Rabbit
10:00pm Doors open, late show
11:00pm Right on Dynamite
12:00pm Frightened Rabbit
tickets will be going onsale via within the hour... keep hitting refresh on this, i guess:
http://www.ticketweb.com/snl/VenueListings...erral_id=bottlelate show ticket holders: FR promise that they will bring you the unadulterated FR experience, so be not worried.
if you want to see FR in Chicago, here's your chance. there will be no pity taken on any SOMBIES that snooze on buying these early show tickets. i will probably not even refrain from calling you an asshole.
this will sell out. not be trying to hype or scare anybody... just stating the facts. also, please note that i am posting this here before even putting on myspace or facebook or whatever. because we love you.
good luck!
oh, and... have i mentioned that FR are rehearsing some covers for their first ever sold out US headline tour? they are. but my lips are sealed.
