Damn, I won't be making the early show for reasons described in my previous post, but I'm happy to be getting the unadulterated FR experience and the no doubt awesome covers.

RE: '09 North America touring.
well... it IS kinda too much to ask, in that the band will have played 225 shows in the last 10 months (as of coming home from this USA tour on February 3rd), and... it's time to write and record the follow-up!
they may be back for a couple of shows here and there, but... there won't be any more wholesale touring until November 2009 at the absolute earliest, but... honestly... more likely early 2010.
we shall see how the writing and recording process goes, though!
and... oh, yeah... they're a bit tired and looking forward to some well-deserved time off on their yachts.

RE: Great Scott
we knew we could easily sell that out, the boys just wanted to play there again one last time, because they had fun there the last time. (the last one sold out, too).
the one that is truly surprising to me is that the Rock N Roll Hotel in DC is going to sell out IN ADVANCE (400 tickets) on Inauguration Eve. DC is a tough market (and that's a pretty tough night), and some huge bands go there and don't sell out Black Cat (900) or 9:30 (1000-1500, depending upon configuration).
like, literally... if you can sell 600 tickets in DC, it's the equivalent of selling like 2000 tickets in NYC or 1250-1500 in Chicago.
(obviously... we are going to be selling 1000 tickets in NYC and 800 in Chicago... so i guess the rule of thumb is about right...
but... i really didn't realize that had we wanted to, we could have done Webster Hall, Metro, and Middle East Downstairs on this tour, and maybe even the Black Cat.
not that we would have, but... it's nice to know we *could* have.

The times I've talked to the Bottle about things like this, they've said they hold about 20 to 25. So there may still be a shred of hope for those without tickets.

Wow, indeed. Was trying to figure out if i could make the early show, but appears I may not have the chance.
HD, you may be referring to the Bottle's policy of holding back 20-25 tickets at the door itself. As far as I know they still do this, but I haven't actually inquired about it in awhile (these are usually gone within 10 minutes of doors opening for shows listed as sold out online).
I usually get the mailing list on Tuesday, so I'm guessing any tickets held back for that will go on sale then.

Jan 9 2009, 04:25 PM
i'm told "later today" by the empty bottle about when these other 75 tickets are going to be freed up for their newsletter / emailing list.
and... yes. the bottle ARE holding back 60 tickets at the door for each of these shows, as they usually do for sold out shows. i don't necessarily agree with it, but... it's what they do, and that's the story.
so... i guess... even if everyone fails whenever empty bottle sends out this email blast, there's still gonna be the opportunity to line up outside the bottle starting at, what... 3:00 PM on a saturday in January? sounds like fun!
to talk about music... anybody heard this Asteroid No. 4 record? i'm kinda loving it.

so here's a weird tale for you.
last night i went and got dinner at Fridays with my two roommates. We sit down and my roommates sit at the opposite side of the table as I do and they immediately fixate their eyes on the TV over my shoulder to watch the Tennessee/Baltimore game and I do the same with the TV behind them. The TV behind me also has a little sidebar scrolling on the bottom that is flashing various fun facts, celeb gossip and miscellaneous things going on around Chicago....it's one of the only TVs in the whole place that has this on the screen.
So a few minutes after we sit down, my one roommate just sort of exclaims "Whoa! Derek! Look!" I turn around, and at the bottom of the TV screen behind me, it says something to the effect "Originally, Frightened Rabbit consisted solely of lead singer Scott Hutchison playing an acoustic guitar and 'mumbling out whatever lyrics came to mind.'" or something to that effect. Then next to it it said 'Frightened Rabbit--Empty Bottle--January 24th 10 pm.'
The rest of the night I kept my eyes checking that tv to see if there were a lot of other indie shows being put up, but really, no, there weren't. I think I caught the tale end of a Les Savy Fav blurb, but that was really about it. The rest of the mentions were for shit like Shinedown and other NUU METAL acts playing the House of Blues. It was extremely weird to not only see them mentioning a random Empty Bottle show at a Fridays in the tourist heart of Chicago, but it was even stranger that it was a Rabbit show. I dunno, maybe this is a non-newsworthy item. It just seemed incredibly strange and awesome all at once.
Is Fridays some new, hip indiecentric establishment? If FR go there, will they get a free meal?

blackswede - unfortunately, once again, Frightened Rabbit are leaving Boston immediately after the show (they've never once stayed the night in Boston! totally ridiculous!), but... we need to drive most of the way to DC after the show, as traffic is going to be quite a bit of a problem on the 19th! so... definitely come grab us early and say hello!
Chicago folks - please help me make plans for late night Chicago hang after the Empty Bottle show. please keep in mind that we won't be able to leave the Bottle until like 2:00 AM, so... it needs to be either a 4:00 AM bar, or somebody's apartment. we're game for a more private affair, if y'all want it to be so. you can PM me suggestions, or we can keep it on-list... whatever you prefer!
an update: the boys are landed, in good spirits and health, and currently spending all day today and tomorrow rehearsing / sorting out acoustic/radio session arrangements / etc. the "covers" idea has since been abandoned, actually. the plan now is that they can play any song they've ever written both electric and acoustic. don't know if that includes like "Don't" and "Soon Go" but... yeah... Yawns, Be Less Rude, Behave, Floating In The Forth, etc...
