Early show was most impressive! Great energy, front man has a nice sense of humor, and the crowd was eating up every second! The board got a nod, too!

Did he do his acoustic gimmick at the late show? Quality!
Paul
Yes, early show was very good. Here are a couple pictures I took with my crappy phone and it's accompanying crappy camera.

I'm pretty sure I stole another camera's flash on that last one.

I'm really glad I got to see this show. I had never been to the Empty Bottle before, so that was cool. I just sort of walked right up to the stage when I got there (which has happened on multiple occasions in the last year) which was great as well. Right when Frightened Rabbit came on, one of the guys behind me made a remark that the crowd didn't seem to be too excited when they came onstage. Maybe it's hard to cheer loudly when you just saw the band onstage getting their instruments ready. But pretty much ten seconds into their first song, "The Modern Leper," they had the crowd in their hands for the rest of the show. From being right up against the stage, it was almost staggering at times to hear the ovations after each song. The setlist was mostly drawn from Midnight Organ. That last picture up there is of Scott doing "Poke" without any amplification. All in all, I had a great time at the show. It was the first concert in a while for me that I was really excited about (the last few bands I've seen were ones that I had seen before and kind of knew what to expect) and it really delivered.

Oh, and after the show I got to meet Hewlett's Daughter, Hero, forgo, and Andyroo. All cool dudes.

ok, let's hear some late show and after parter hewlets reports live right here.

He did and it was great! We got up front for the late show and were right underneath him for the acoustic dealy. Good times! And two very solid sets, too!

yeah, good meeting you, man. We'll definitely have to meet up next time our paths can cross at a show.

Well the Rabbits left about three hours ago. I haven't gone to sleep since...and I'm heading in to work momentarily (kill me).

Honestly tonight turned out about a hundred times better than I thought it would have. An excellent time. The Frabbits are all amazingly great guys. Had an absolute joy hosting them and would love to do it again next time they're in town. Great guys who I wish the world for.

A bunch of my boner friends took some photos from this evening. If there's some dire need, I can post them at some point. If not, well, that's more than ok with me, too.

Thanks all who came out to make this a pretty rad night!

dbrigs
I'd glance at some pics from last night. If they're hosted somewhere, just link us.

in short

thanks to hewletts last night for hosting the festivities...

so happy they finally played floating in fourth

wished that girl wouldve shut up in the front during poke

did they play square 9 for us SOMBIES or for greg and dero...didnt know what he meant when he said they were playing the next two for the sound ops guys. but ill take that as meaning us

was it me or was the sound at the bottle exceptionally good (or better then usual)?

i want to know what was played at the second show that wasnt at the first

and yes who has pics from last night cause i dont

and finally these guys seem to get better and tighter with every show and are learning to flesh out that dense sound from the album live with every show. should sound even sweeter this summer when they play lolla or p4k????

Last night was definitely a lot of fun. Great to see everyone. Glad to hear things went well Hewleitts Daughter. I'm sure it was a blast. I was all psyched to come over, but just totally lost steam waiting around and decided to just head home.

Simakos, did you make it over there?

oh yeah... i was there. i pretty much just talked to Wessuscks' girlfriend the whole nite about sushi.

all you FR sombies are such decent people it's kind of disgusting. hope to bump into all of you again real soon.

did anybody else notice the overwhelming smell of Chinese food during the second show? i'm not joking, it was either that or uncooked pasta.

Hewlett, thanks for having us all over. you are tops.

Sorry I didn't bump into any of you guys at the first show, but had a great time nonetheless. The wife and I managed to land ourselves a good spot over on the stairs - great for viewing the show and getting real close as the guys went on and off the stage. I thought they put on a real good show, but what was best was the fact they were having such a great time. It was pretty obvious they had been looking forward to coming to Chicago and they really appreciated the support of the crowd. I loved the comment that they still have a number of shows, but yeah, this was pretty much it for them before they head back home.

Anyway, thanks to you guys for turning me on to FR! wink.gif

Yeah, show was great, good to see/meet everyone again. I was in the same boat as hummingbird in that intended to make it over to Hewlett's for post-show (and even told him as much, sorry HD!), but lost steam as the night was winding down. Once a couple friends who were going to come headed out, knew I was done, which ended up being the right call, as I barely got up for brunch Sunday morning as it was.

Looking forward to bigger and better things for the Rabbits.

Non-incriminating photos...

Even though I was too old and tired and responsible to hang out afterwards, I did manage to say hi to all four Rabbits over the course of the evening. They are indeed the coolest guys ever.

Another great show. I missed some of the loose, reckless abandon of earlier shows, but they're still all heart and soul, even with the tighter playing and better sound.

yeah these shows were NOWHERE near as noisy as that first time they played here. do you remember? it was close to sounding like a thrash show or something... i like the polished rabbitz as well though.

it was so great to see them manipulating the (new) crowd with rock star moves and stuff.

if i had to pick, i would say the 2nd show was better for a variety of reasons.

How many drumsticks did Grant break at that first Bottle show? Six? Seven? As I recall, he had a rented kit that he just beat the shit out of. I had a bad view of him last night until near the end of the main set, so I got to see him hammer on "Square Nine." While he hits as hard as ever, he seems to be more in control.

I'm not complaining that they're better, more proficient and more controlled players, because the guts and the heart in their playing are still way, way there. But I'm glad I got to see the thrashy energy FR shows too.

They also mentioned they did another Daytrotter session that has yet to be put up too.

I love the safety of the frightened rabbit thread...
HewlettsDaughter

The Daytrotter recording and posting regiment is an unusual one. It takes forever for them to put those up just because of the sheer number of them they produce. Still, another FR Daytrotter session will be very welcomed and awesome!

And I'm guessing the SO episode will air in the next two weeks. Mark my words.

the Daytrotter Session #2 was done very hastily, but sounded amazing. i think it's going to make some people very happy. i can't wait to hear it myself.

no word on when Sound Opinions is going to air... i'll check in with them now. the World Cafe Live Session (which, truthfully, wasn't that amazing) is going to air Thursday, March 5th.

the one thing i did want to post is the songs played at the Le Poisson Rouge "all request acoustic show" on Monday night:

My Backwards Walk
The Twist
Old Old Fashioned
Square 9
Snake
Fast Blood
Music Now!
Poke
The Greys
I Feel Better
Good Arms Vs. Bad Arms
The Modern Leper
Head Rolls Off
Go Go Girls
Keep Yourself Warm
Be Less Rude
Fake Empire / It's XMAS So We'll Stop
Floating In The Forth
--------
Set You Free

in other words, everything they've ever written except the following:
Soon
Don't Go
Behave
Yawns
Who'd You Kill Now?
Last Exit In Brooklyn (aka The Fun Stuff)

there's a guy that did hi-res filming from the front row... here's some of what he's posted so far:

^^all of the above^^
selfstarter
the fake empire / xmas transition is so crap that even scott laughs at it. it's awful, but in a purely charming Frightened Rabbit way.

i'll let you know if i get ahold of the entire set. it wasn't really a show so much as a celebration of the rise of Frightened Rabbit. the performances weren't necessarily spellbinding or amazing... but the atmosphere of the place was pretty unbelievable. they were onstage for 90 minutes, and still got called back for an encore (that they truthfully didn't really want / expect to do... it was only after about 5 minutes that they actually returned to the stage).

i hope Ray posts some more on vimeo soon...

here's 44 seconds including a wee bit of fake empire and the start of XMAS:

so... Sound Opinions is either going to air this weekend or next weekend... i'm awaiting some more info, but will let ya'll know.
