T. Boone Pickens' Mesa Power LLP placed a $2 billion order for 667 wind turbines with General Electric to build the world's largest wind farm in the Texas Panhandle, the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.

A spokesman for Mesa Power declined to comment on the article.

Mesa Power plans to announce the deal later Thursday, according to the newspaper.

The wind farm would produce 1,000 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 300,000 homes.

By 2014, Pickens has said he wants to have 4,000 MW of wind power.

Huh? These things aren't like jets that suck birds into their engines, they're like wings of 737s slowly spinning 200+ feet off the ground. Their leading edges are between 12 & 18 inches thick so they're not exactly chopping up birds, more like swatting them out of the sky with a slow moving baseball bat.

Researchers have found that less than 1% of birds can't figure out how to stay out of the way of wind turbines; unfortunately nearly 100% of birds who can't stay out of the way of wind turbines are large Raptors, a very endangered group.
