01. Cake - Commissioning A Symphony In C Comfort Eagle Still one of my favorite pop albums. Not as good as Prolonging the Magic, though.

02. Talib Kweli & Madlib - Happy Home (feat. Candice Anderson) Don't listen to this album enough.

03. Method Man & Redman - Neva Herd Dis B4 An okay song and an okay album. Nothing to get excited over.

04. OutKast - Roses This song has no plays on my iTunes. Decent song. Catchy. Makes me want to revisit Stankonia, not so much this album.

05. The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby/Julia From the Love compilation. Fucking love this song.

06. Kenna - Baptized in Blacklight Such a great, GREAT pop album. Kenna is definitely a strong guilty pleasure. The Neptunes help out a bunch for this as well. Very pleased with this shuffle at this point.

07. The Knife - The Captain Silent Shout is an incredibly album. This song is haunting and eerie and all the other numerous reasons why I enjoy listening to The Knife. Build-up on this song is lovely.

08. DJ Shadow - Reconstruction Medley In Tune And On Time is a great live mix. Good samples and flow. No complaints here.

09. Elzhi - Motown 25 (feat. Royce Da 5'9") My favorite song on Elzhi's debut and one of my favorite rap songs from 2008. That Black Milk is out of control and Elzhi and Royce both brought their A game for their verses. Flawless hip-hop track.

10. Jackson Browne - Oh, My Love Excellent cover of an excellent John Lennon song. It put me right to sleep, but not in a bad way.
Raj (Noble Con)
this is still a fun game

Sally Shapiro – Miracle
first listen, feels a little flat compared to her oeuvre eh

D-Mob – C’mon and Get My Love (ft. Cathy Dennis)
Cathy's first (?) hit - D-Mob actually just gets a piece of this but it's pretty catchy

Sascha Funke – Semi
minimal and techy bpitch control shit

Nick Straker Band – A Little Bit of Jazz
insane proliferation of little noises and riffs busting out of the seams in this track and streaming out across the floor in front of the speakers

Opeth – Still Day Beneath the Sun
there's always one or two tracks on an Opeth album that you can drop in a mixtape of acoustic/folk music with no one the wiser

Vangelis – Alpha
a classic, although I'm sorta over it lately

Wolves in the Throne Room – Crystal Ammunition
just got this as a result of looking up songs that were in good lists in the first round of voting for the songs poll

This Heat – Horizontal Hold (Peel Session)
ha, same as above - better beats than TVOTR for sure

Maria McKee – High Dive
incredible song and a few forays into Maria's catalog have failed so I don't have much else to say

Shackleton – Shortwave
I can't take a ton of dubstep or related genres in one sitting but Shackleton seems to be one of sure-fire keepers
plaid

frank zappa - who needs the peace corps?
the velvet underground - stephanie says
radiohead - climbing up the walls
manfred mann's earth band - solar fire
led zeppelin - friends
pink floyd - matilda mother
brian eno - back in judy's jungle
pink floyd - ibiza bar
bob dylan - 4th time around
beach boys - surfin' rehearsal

probably one of the best ones i've had yet, the tracks all flowed really nicely, it's like it knew what it was doing...

Living in Pekin
Always fun

Beach Boys: I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
The Who: Baby Don't You Do It
Beatles: Maggie Mae
Cunninlynguits: Running Wild (first time I have heard the song, just got the album)
Blitzen Trapper: Futures & Folly
De La Soul: Jenifa Taught Me (Derwin's Revenge)
The Walkmen: On the Water
Patti Smith: Kimberly
Lotus Plaza: Quicksand
My Morning Jacket: I Will Sing You Songs

Interesting string of songs... I haven't listened to Horses in a while, think I'll pull out the record when I get home tonight. Nice ending with I Will Sing You Songs.

Test
1. sly & the family stone - africa talks to you "the asphalt jungle" - love the funky stuff.
2. sparklehorse - jack's obsession - this is one band who sounded great to me on paper, but i still can't really get into them. slow, boring, whiny.
3. wu-tang clan - iron flag - love the wu, alright track, not one of my favorite albums.
4. j dilla - jungle love - oh shit. LOVE this track. love dilla's production, like guilty simpson. one of my favorites on this album, wish they were all bangers. has me longing for Stones Throw heyday from 2003-2005 or whenever it was. when dilla, madlib, doom were all going nuts. can't wait for that Madvillainy 2.
5. the beatles - hey bulldog - what can i say? playing the Beatles Rock Band the night it came out with my friends really made me appreciate them again. it was nice experiencing them in a different way. really was an event.
6. sufjan stevens - interlude I: dream sequence in subi circumnavigation - probably the first time i heard this one. track off of BQE. it's pretty? i guess he's giving up on the 50 states project....who saw that coming? i was just hoping he'd do my home state first...oooh this track gets really sinister and orchestral at the end, like "a day in the life". i might have to check this out.
7. of montreal - everything disappears when you come around - interesting neo-psychedelia. of montreal's one of my favorites, but i vastly prefer their later stuff.
8. nine inch nails - closer (live) - i'd love to see this guy live (doubt we've seen the last of him). i respect the guy, but he's more a remnant of my childhood, nostalgia. don't really like his latest stuff.
9. creedence clearwater revival - bootleg - just got this today when i realized my library was missing some good ol swamp rock. CCR had a pretty killer streak from '68-'70 (6 albums) that is rivaled by few.
10. dert floyd - untitled - rap beats made from pink floyd material. pretty cool.

doesn't the itunes genius thing claim to do this? a co-worker of mine swears by it.
i guess he kicks off his shuffle with a spoon song and it's suppossed to follow suit in similar flow from his library.
haven't tried it yet. can't decide if that would be counted as a random shuffle or not.

i like it. Genius does a pretty decent job.....of course it's all coming from your library, so it just depends on how much you have to choose from.... try it.
i definitely wouldn't count it as a random shuffle.

i just put Spoon into my genius, and it spit out wilco, decemberists, shins, wolf parade, my morning jacket, the national, neutral milk hotel, arcade fire, sufjan stevens....

n.k
1. Beach Boys- That's Not Me-- Fun little song off Pet Sounds. Reminded me that I need to listen to more Beach Boys.
2. Scarlett Johansson- Green Grass- A cool track with cool percussion, but honestly I'd rather just hear the Tom Waits original.
3. The Hold Steady- Magazines- Love the chorus to this song, but hate whoever sang the echo parts (who is that?). Very gravely and annoying.
4. Bilbo- Bones and Skulls-- So iTunes found one. An album I have but have never listened too. I can't say that this track left me dying to check out the rest of the record. But maybe that's a bad representation?
5. Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter- You Are not Gotten Here-- A great song by an awesome Pac-NW artist. I really like the enitre album this song is off of (Oh My Girl) but couldn't really get into the follow up record (Like, Love, Lust and the Open Halls of the Soul).
6. Cold War Kids- Relief-- Really cool bass synth sounds. For whatever reason I couldn't get into Loyalty to Loyalty even half as much as Robbers & Cowards, so I'm not all that familiar with this track. I like it though. Pretty cool stuff, but nothing really seems jump out and grab me about this track.

Shit, I got to go. I'm only doing six songs.
redmedicine
1. David Bowie - What in the World
2. Deerhunter - Twilight at Carbon Lake
3. Matthew Sweet and Susannah Hoffs - Everything I Own

6. The Byrds - Take a Whiff On Me
7. Sleater/Kinney - Banned From the End of the World
8. Daniel Johnston - Sorry Entertainer
9. Young Fresh Fellows - Used to Think All Things Would
10. Pulp - Underwear

Not the best 10 in a row I've heard, but not the worst either.

Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks
Midnight Oil - Hercules
Rachel's - Expect Delays
Fruit Bats - Born in the 70's
Aimee Mann - Phoenix
Midnight Oil - Surf's Up

Hercules is the bomb (no pun intended). The live version from Scream in Blue is perhaps the best thing Midnight Oil ever did.

ah...why the fuck not?

david bowie - modern love - lets dance
uh...yeah this song is brilliant. i think i've loved it since i was 5 years old.

r. kelly - you knock me out - chocolate factory
i do not know this song, usually because i never make it this far in chocolate factory. but long live kells.

ride - in a different place - nowhere
solid tune. i prefer the two opening tracks more, but its good.

the knife - pass this on - deep cuts
i basically feel the same way about this tune as i do the previous ride tune.

sam cooke - ain't that good news - portrait of a legend
love that banjo. one of his countryest tunes. terrific stuff.

supergrass - seen the light - life on other planets
excellent tune and a ridiculously underrated album. probably my favorite of the first 4 supergrass albums (haven't heard their newer stuff..)

phoenix - countdown - wolfgang amadeus phoenix
where would you go, where would you go w/ a lasso? oh, wait, that's that other song i like more than countdown that sounds remarkably like countdown.

medeski, martin and wood - sasa - end of the world party just in case
good tune, like 80% of the rest of mmw's tunes.

the sex pistols - problems - nevermind the bullocks...
fuck yes. i don't love the sex pistols by any means, but fuck do i love this song. it's also used in the opening sequence of freddy got fingered, arguably the finest use of the sex pistols ever in cinema.

my morning jacket - i will sing you songs - okonokos
good tune. not listening to the whole thing so i can't remember if i like it more than the studio version or not, but all that matters is that its a good song.
Northern Voice
The Rolling Stones - Stupid Girl
classic early stones

Dixie Chicks - There's Your Trouble
I'll stand behind this. Good band, good country single.

Aerosmith - Crazy
The Aerosmith greatest hits is on my iPod, this is one of their better 90s songs, not that that's a great compliment.

Jellyfish - That is Why
awesome.

Blink 182 - Everytime I Look For You
American Pie 2 opening credits song. Not their best effort. Makes me nostalgic for high school but I think it's because of the association with the movie.

Our Lady Peace - Sorry
a lesser song from a lesser OLP album... and I've grown tired of a lot of the good OLP songs.

Van Morrison - Full Force Gale
Good song that I almost never listen to.

Better Than Ezra - A Lifetime
I really loved this song for a while, it's still pretty great (this is the original version from Closer, I didn't like the re-recorded version as much). if this was never used in the OC, it should have been.

Belle & Sebastian - Song For Sunshine
Every song on The Life Pursuit makes me want to hear more. Probably my favourite B & S album. As I think of it, this is one of the least memorable songs on the album, but still very good.

Black Crowes - Time Will Tell
Bob Marley cover, I always found it a strange way to end Southern Harmony and it's a strange way to end these last 10, but it was a pretty eclectic mix of songs anyway, so what the hell.
Waves Within
Bushwacka - Love Story vs. Finally [Tim Deluxe New Vocal Mix]

Mash up of two pretty decent house tunes from early this decade, this version is heavily cut so it's a fun couple of minutes if that sort of thing is your sort of thing. I don't mind it.

The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize??

Pretty standard canon tune from the last decade. I don't enthuse about the album as many on here do, not one of my all time favorites, this is probably the best cut from it.

Drake - Best I Ever Had

Decent commercial rap rack, can't fault anyone on it though it doesn't exactly set the pulse racing. Million times better on a dance floor.

Thee Drives on a Vinyl - Sunset on Ibiza

These guys are famous for 'Greece 2000', one of the biggest anthems of the Ibiza trance era. I actually prefer this, melodic but not overblown synths, great one as the weather gets warmer.

Dominic - Real Time

Really progressive electro trance, almost minimal at places, very good.

Michael Cassette - Summer

Another great one to listen to while walking in the current sunshine, very techy late decade dance tune, good club music.

Joni Mitchell - Chinese Cafe

The best portrayal of nostalgia and lost youth ever recorded in music by my favourite artist of all time. This is supposedly from when she had fallen off irredeemably...it's fucking amazing.

Tyrese - Ain't Nothin' Like A Jones

Sounds Kelly-esque as with a lot of stuff Tyrese does, cute beat, nice vocal, cool little R'n'B slow jam to groove to before a night out.

Akira the Don - Back in the Day

Sort of UK Hip-Hop with proper instrumentation and more singing than rapping...I love wistful nostalgic songs as seen with the Joni track above, so I'm fine with this, not the best thing he's done but still smile inducing if it comes on.

Jay-Z ft Big Boi + Twista - Poppin Tags

I actually really like Blueprint 2, and this is one of the standout tracks. Jay rapping about how rich he is, how many women he fucks, full on arrogant mode, 'gucci this, prada that, roll wit ya boy you'll be poppin tags', couple of killer guest verses as well. Cool way to end.

aphex twin - heliosphan
david bowie - suffragette city
boards of canada - dawn chorus
the only ones - another girl, another planet
the kinks - sunny afternoon
elton john - candle in the wind
tom waits - midtown (instrumental)

MidnightChild2
Silas Stingy - The Who The Who Sell Out
I think this record really needs to be dug into by everyone who dismisses the Who as over-the top stadium rock wankery .. brilliant kinks/floyd esque britpop

Che - Spacemen 3 Playing With Fire
Spacemen 3 doing a Suicide cover ...need I say more ?

Stop Breaking Down - The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
Exile On Main Street is a unshakeable part of the canon for a reason

Kabuki Girl - The Descendents - Milo Goes To College
Pop-punk done right .. I will always count Blink 182 as a guilty pleasure but milo goes to college shows them for the amatuers they are in comparison

Music for the last couple - the jam
Don't really know this song all that well...need to spend more time with The Jam

Unsatisified-The Replacements - Let It Be
the aural equivalent to a john hughes ..overwrought in a typical teenage fashion..which makes it awesome when your that age and every year after

Beginning to see the light - The Velvet Underground - s/t
velvet underground - nuff said

where'll you find me now - roxy music - avalon
roxy music seem to be contstantly walking a line between ridicolousness and the best art rock ever
here they fall more on the latter side of the equation than the former

take a chance with me - beach boys - pet sound
finally gotten into this in the last eighteen months..for too long it sounded too cold or something ...but upon delving into the phil spector catalogue the wonders of pet sounds were opened to me

Lady On The Island - Crosby,Stills and Nash
Who's for a csny revival sometime soon ?
Mr.Nobody

Johnathan Richman- Ancient Long Ago

Beautiful song, just makes me feel happy.

Blitzen Trapper-Echo/Always On/Ez Con

Good song, but not one of my favorites off of Furr.

Disco Inferno-Summer's Last Stand

Good song that took a while to warm on me.

Passion Pit- Make Light

An ok song,But I'm just not in the mood for this. Skip

Desperate Bicycles- ????(I'm not sure what song this is.)

Good lo-fi punk from a band that often goes ignored. Good stuff.

Big Star- Give Me Another Chance

Mellow little acoustic track, not one of my favorites from 1 Record, but it has it's moments with the harmonies.

The Walkmen-New Years Eve

One of my favorites off of Bows + Arrows. Just has this great nostalgic feel to it.

Fleet Foxes- Blue Ridge Mountains

Probably my favorite on their first album. Really good changes and a fantastic melody.

Simon and Garfunkel- Bookends Theme

Such a sweet song. Nostalgia dripping through it. Long lost memories and the past.

Radiohead-Ideoteque

Technological chaos is how I would best describe this track. Cryptic lyrics abound and that great drum beat in the backround.

Metallica- Ride The Lightning

My favorite Metallica song,nuff said.

chrisother
Nosaj Thing - Aquarium - one of the most consummate users of panning to create spacial effects

Tanya Morgan - Hardcore Gentlemen - Pharcyde's "Passing Me By" meets self-depreciating Wu-Tang. Could do without the last 0:10...

Ryan Adams - Desire - Hard to control the teeming man-crush I feel hearing Ryan on this one

Merril Bainbridge - Mouth - Why do I have this in my library? oh, because apparently I'm a shameless enthusiast of Aussie beatboxing pop

Paperclip People - Throw - some really cool subtle use of gain on the drums in various places. really well-crafted pre-disco-house

Jake One - Bless the Child - did Jake One & 9th collab on this? certain elements are patently Jake One but there's a little 9th in there too. Or was 9th already out of the group? need to catch up on my chronology. Either way ill lyricism over some hot White Van Music production

Hostage - I Get High (Styles P vs. Freda Payne remix) - surprised it took somebody this long to do this. then again I didn't think of it either...

Jynwythek (Prepared Piano Piece 1) - Clive Williamson (Orchestral Aphex Twin) - really elegant cover

Wale & Marsha Ambrosius - Diary (acoustic non-album version) - massively superior to the actual overproduced album version

The Replacements - Here Comes a Regular - hard to say something about this song that hasn't already been said so I'll just close with "magnificent"
redmedicine
So it looks like the most named artist so far is Bowie. He does fill out an ipod well, and provide a good variety of songs to shuffle through. Though in mine I may have to remove Platinum Collection 3 to avoid that damn Labyrinth song.
Hans Christian Anderson
semi selected shuffling

husker du - masochism world - zen arcade
lcd soundsystem - all my friends - sound of silver

massive attack - protection - protection
beach house - real love - teen dream
the replacements - can't hardly wait - pleased to meet me
the national - mr. november - alligator

Is there any point if you don't make any comment about the songs? It's just a list of tracks if not, if people wrote and enthused about the songs that came up it's an interesting thread because you can find new stuff to get into.
arkin
Jesus Lizard "Nub" - pretty badass way to start off a shuffle imo

Califone "Vampiring Again" - hard for me to pick a favorite from this album, but this is a good one, one of their more melodic songs

Six Finger Satellite "Where Humans Go" - I almost never listen to this song, not because I don't like it, I just forget about it. Anyway, still good stuff.

Django Reinhardt "Honeysuckle Rose" - this was on my wedding playlist, during dinner (reception was at a french restaurant, ftr)

Teardrop Explodes "Poppies in the field" - from one of my all time favorite albums, I think I actually prefer Kilimanjaro to Crocodiles, though Echo had the more rewarding career overall

Joy Division "Ice Age" - not JD's best, but still pretty damn good

The National "Lit Up" - making me even more eager to hear the new album

Frightened Rabbit "My Backwards Walk" - would it kill FatCat to reissue the vinyl in the U.S.?

Jens Lekman "Black Cab" - one of the first songs that really got me into Jens. One I'd never skip over.

Wilco "Pot Kettle Black" - come to think of it, this sounds a little like the Califone song.
Montana
What a fucking ten I just hit:

House of Four Doors Live BBC - The Moody Blues. A wonderfully haunting tune. Sort of like the National if they could sing and write interesting songs.

Across the Universe - The Beatles

Diamond Day - Vashti Bunyan. Fantastic folk music. I'm excited for her appearance on Mark Olson's new album in July.

Goddamn Lonely Love - The Drive By Truckers. Impossible greatness. If you don't like this song, maybe it's time to put away the stereo in favor of Jay Leno.

Take it as it Comes - The Doors. Cool chorus, pleasant vibe.

Leaf House - Animal Collective. If Barrett was alive during the 2k's and couldn't play.

Blue Jean - David Bowie. Hey, it beats Ch-ch-ch-changes!

81 - Joanna Newsom. One of the better tracks on her overwrought latest.

Streets that Time Walks - Classic, depressing Son Volt but with just enough euphoria to make it pleasurable - like a sunny alley in a ramshackle mountain town.

Sarah - Fleetwood Mac. I wonder if they had to "mellow her out" before the takes. Fantastic song.

Nice mix came up in itunes just now:

Tim Hardin - Don't make promises One of my favourite ever songs [/end]
Roxanne Shante - Have a nice day Been hunting for years for a song of hers Peel played in 84/85, 'Runaway' or something? Know it?
The Field - Thought vs action
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Turn into Took me ages to get over the fact they aren't still the band that made 'Bang' but I've got there now.
The Dead C - Maggot
The Human League - The sound of the crowd One of the first singles I ever bought iirc
GZA - Investigative reports
Lily
Sister - Sufjan Stevens
16 Days - Whiskeytown
Song For Willie - Magnolia Electric Co.
Townships - The Cave Singers
Broken Heart - Spiritualized
Mama Tried - Grateful Dead
Half Moon Bay - Sun Kil Moon
Gila - Beach House
No Knock on My Door - the Verve
Out of Smoke - Voice of the Seven Thunders
Freddie Freelance
Richard Hell & the Voidoids - "Walking on the Water" - A Creedence Clearwater Revival cover by one of the quintessential NY Punk bands
Paul Stanley - "What's this Place, "Toads?" - Because People, Let Me Get This Off My Chest is an important album?
Roy Ayers - "Coffy Sauna" - A smooth & jazzy atmospheric track from one of the great Blaxploitation movies by one of the best Jazz Vibraphonists.
James Brown - "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" - It's all about the Horns, Baby, in this Ballad-tempo classic.
Led Zeppelin - "10 Years Gone" - Live, from the Richfield, Ohio, 1977 Bootleg.
Ramones - "Do Ya Wanna Dance" - A cover of the Bobby Freeman Chestnut.
Naked Gunman - "Rhapsody for Accordion & Angle Grinders (Play al Picador)" - One of my own Noise Drone pieces.
System of a Down - "Hypnotize" - From the album of the same name.
Monty & Roy - "In and Out the Window" - From Rough & Tough: The History of Ska 1960-1966
Java - "Bendrong" - A Gamelan piece from the Nonesuch Records release The Jasmine Isle / Gamelan Music. I love Gamelan music, and I often use gongs & metalophones in my own music.
Waves Within
- The Beatles - Ask Me Why: Been listening to a lot of early Beatles lately, and this is one of the best songs, very sweet and melodic.

- Big Pun - Beware: Good bit of mid-90's mefioso rap, not a song I would call a classic as some think though.

- Pet Shop Boys - One Thing Leads To Another: Pretty untalked about song, came with some bonus disc they released in 1993...it's very good, more talking than singing from Tennant but as always tells a good story with some great lyrics.

- Trentemoller - Sycamore Feeling: Dark vocal minimal electronic music works well if you're in the mood, which I am today.

- Rabbit In The Moon - Out Of Body Experience: Ah, beautiful piece of music, let alone dance music. Great period for this type of thing.

- Durrty Goodz - Give Me the Music: Best song about the Axiom EP. He came at the wrong time really, when grime was going out and British rappers were 'selling out' and making electro dance tracks for the charts.

- White Hinterland - Icarus: One of my favourite songs from this year, the hook is very ethereal and nice.

- Tiesto - Heroes: Written for the 2004 Olymics Parade of the Athletes, just a great euphoric trance track with a nice melody. Works even better on a dance floor, as with most if Tiesto's stuff, not always subtle enough for home listening.

- Dusty Springfield - Goin' Back: Good little Dusty track, she has a fucking great archive of songs.

- David Bowie - Be My Wife: Fuck, 'Low' is such a masterpiece of an album, and an album that epitomises vinyl with the vastly differing two sides. This is on the rock side, and is a rapid, electric guitar driven piece of catchy rock/pop.
Hans Christian Anderson
why the fuck not? (on an 8gb ipod, fwiw...)

--jay reatard, "death is forming" - nice opener. i bet this would make a lot of other sombies more excited than it makes me, however. still a good song tho. also DEATHISFORMING!DEATHISFORMING!DEATHISFORMING!DEATHISFORMING!DEATHISFORMING!DEATHISFORMING!

--stevie wonder, "you haven't done nothin" - oh man, the best track on FFF and probably a top 5 stevie song of all time for me. this is off to a good start thus far.

--akron/family, "the alps and their orange evergreen" - somethin a bit mellow after that great 1-2 punch. not my favorite SEW,SEF tune, but its still good. i like the song just after this one (on the album) a bit more, actually. anyhow...

--smog, "distance" - the best or 2nd best tune on dongs, i'm hitting out of the park today!

--neko case, "middle cyclone" - terrific song and terrific album. excited to see her for the 3rd time in as many years in a few weeks. i always imagined that this song would close side A on the vinyl. anyone who actually has it know if that's the case?

--freeway + jake one, "sho' nuff (ft. bun cool.gif" - this album's OK. i like a handful of songs a lot, but as memory serves this isn't one of em. i don't listen to the record all that regularly though, and it sounds plenty serviceable w/ this listening. shames as its got a lotta great talents on it.

--stevie wonder, "tuesday heartbreak" - solid song. i need to probably take some SW off my ipod though, i have like 6 records on it.

--akron/family, "franny you're human" - funny, same thing goes for A/F, except its only 3 albums. i actually don't know this song too well b/c i usually get bored w/ the S/T record by this time. i know many fans would think that it's blasphemy i don't know this song that well, time to let it play though...

--the new pornographers, "valkyrie at the disco" - more fucking stevie wonder, more fucking akron/family, and now more fucking (sorta) neko case. shuffle my ass.

--broken social scene presents kevin drew, "aging faces/losing places" - one of those sleepy songs from the first BSS: presents record. sounds alright, but not one of my favorites off this record.

ok, the true winners of this shuffle are you haven't done nuthin and distance, w/ death is forming in a close 3rd. blew my load early.

Matt and Kim - Cinders: The best 1:47 instrumental keyboard emo pop on my IPod
Miley Cyrus - 7 Things: Wow, I haven't listened to this since I put it in my Top 10 singles last year. Still awesome. Shame about the new album, though.
Portishead - Glory Box: I haven't listened to this in forever either (Feb 6th...apparently). Good song.
Brian Eno featuring Roger Eno & Daniel Lanois - Silver Morning: Pure bliss in the form of a shimmery electric guitar. Best Eno ambient album.
Max Richter - Infra 7: Have y'all been listening to the new Max Richter? Becaus it is AMAZING. Do it. Do it. Do it.
Yo La Tengo - Green Arrow: Anytime I can't sleep (which is often lately), I put this on and I'm usually out before it ends. The lilting guitar strings, the crickets and the distant drums at the end. Perfection.
Chris De Burgh - Moonlight and Vodka: I completely unironically love Chris De Burgh (You know, the 'Lady in Red' guy). This one is awesome, something about a spy in Russia pining for home.
Jesus and Mary Chain - Just Like Honey: Always reminds me of the end of Lost in Translation when Bill Murray hugs Scarlett Johanssen, which was my Facebook profile pic for a while.
Queen - We Will Rock You: After hearing this at approximately 8 zillion hockey games, one tends to forget how awesome the actual song is. I went through a bit of a Queen renaissance earlier this year and was blown away by how fucking awesome this song sounds when it's not being clapped along to by thousands of idiots cheering against your favourite team.
Archie Bell & the Drells - Tighten Up: I don't know why this song suddenly reentered my head the other day, but I'm glad it did so I could it back on my IPod after having to reformat it a couple years back. When Homer played this as a one-man band on 'The Simpsons' I had no idea it was a real song until my brother told me he heard it on the radio and I didn't believe him because he lies all the time. Then when he told me again, I didn't believe him either. Then when he turned the radio on and it was playing I was finally forced to believe him. True story.
Northern Voice
The Weakerthans - Elegy For Gump Worsley - He looked more like our fathers, not a goalie, player, athlete period. Smoke, half ash, stuck in that permanent smirk, tugging jersey around the beergut.... I could probably do without ever hearing this again, to be honest

Lupe/Kanye/Pharell - Us Placers - One of the better combinations of mainstream rap stars and rock(ish) music. Are these guys ever going to put out the "Child Rebel Soldier" album they keep talking about?

Julian Casablancas - 4 Chords of the Apocalypse - Alright, I liked Phrazes of the Youth more than about 99% of the population it seems. This song is still good.

Velvet Crush - Drive Me Down - I'm not entirely sure how this ended up on my iPod. Not that it's not a great piece of 90s power pop, but I have the entire Teenage Symphonies to God album, and then this one random song, that I don't remember why I downloaded.

Pearl Jam - Why Go - If I have Ten, Vs., Avocado, Backspacer and Rearviewmirrow (and Crazy Mary, lol), am I missing any important Pearl Jam music? Obviously, I ignored them for a decade.

The Band - The Weight - This has stood up as "THE" The Band song (personally, I'll take The Last Waltz version of "It makes No Difference"), I have this on my iPod a few times, it seems, in different forms. This is the original version from Big Pink

Against Me! - Bob Dylan Dream - Interesting. From a band who actually were friends with Bob Dylan, to this fantasy song. It has harmonicas for authenticity. I like this band. I can see why this song was only included on the "limited edition" version though.

The Tragically Hip - Membership - CanCon regulators will be happy to see that this shuffle has lots of Canadian artists representing and meeting airplay standards. I feel like I've grown out of the Hip lately, or maybe I just haven't been in the mood for them. I still have almost everything they've ever recorded on my iPod though.

Fleetwood Mac - Peacekeeper - Had a hard time placing this at first, until the vocals came in. At first I thought it was a Tom Petty song. At least I knew it someone from decades earlier making a stab at a radio hit - and succeeding. I have the perception that the album that this came out on was awful, but I'm not sure I ever actually listened to it.

Orge Overkill - Girl, You'll Be a Woman Song - From Whatever: The '90s Pop And Culture Box. Do UO thank Neil Diamond or Quentin Tarantino for this song having any relevance? I like (some) Urge Overkill.

There's no real excuse for posting against so soon after last time other than I'm bored and lazy

Minotaur Shock - Muesli: Awesome song. Sounds like a bike horn before giving way to this great cacophanous smattering of instruments.
Johnny Cash & June Cash - You'll Be Alright: I like the chorus on this one. Plus it doesn't overstay its welcome at 1:49
Otis Redding - Respect: I actually had no idea he did this song, too, found it on a Classic Rock: 1965 CD.
Jon Brion - Row: From the 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' soundtrack, I can't explain it, but this always makes me feel warm for the 50 seconds it lasts.
Phil Collins - Do You Know? Do You Care?: And this song always reminds me of waterfalls, which I think stems back to me seeing one when I was like seven and having this song stuck in my head. It's great bitter Phil Collins giving (likely) his ex-wife shit: "You said you could, you couldn't, so why...would you lie?"
The 6ths - As You Turn to Go: Pretty much the most romantic song ever. Sublime.
Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better: Yeah.
Dr. Robotnik - Tomorrow I'll... (Robotnik's Penis Song): This gets entirely more plays than it ever should. It's so catchyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Three 6 Mafia - Stay Fly: Still an awesome song. Whenever we do a Best of the 2000s poll, this has to be in the Top 10. Has to.
The Wedding Present - Spangle: The saddest break-up song ever? "How long have you had this planned, guess it shows how much you care, now I understand, I just played the fool. Sure I'm gonna let you go, I was wrong to ever trust you. Don't think that I'll ever know how you could be so cruel."

Get Yield, Vitalogy and No Code. If you like Pearl Jam enough to sit thru Avocado and Backspacer, you'll love those three. Everything after Yield ('98) is kind of a waste of time IMO.

what UR said as usual. in particular vitalogy. their best record.
Waves Within
1. Gouryella - Gouryella: Pretty mammoth tune, combines the orchestral strings beauty of Ferry Corsten with the developing hard trance sound of Tiesto. Sounds amazing on GC Red when Scott Bond mixes in the breakbeat at the four minute mark.

2. Fleetwood Mac - Man Of The World: Back when Peter Green ran the group, emotional tune, gets me choked up every time, just the resignation in his voice now he knows life is really empty and happiness will forever be elusive. The best song the group did in any of their incarnations, stellar guitar work as well.

3. The Dream - February Love: This made no impact on me when the LP first came out, but has grown on me so much that I think it's my favourite track of the year now. Love the reference to Hater.

4. The La's - There She Goes: Even the DFS advert hasn't ruined it for me, brilliant song.

5. Dire Straits - Skateaway: Cool song, I've been getting back into this band lately. I love Knopfler's soulful vocals and phrasing and storytelling on tracks like this.

6. Morrissey - You're The One For Me, Fatty: Perhaps I'll have to take back my recent comments about 80's indie/rock, this is the third song from that genre in a row and they've all be fantastic. Especially this one.

7. Dire Straits - Expresso Love: And here we go, yet more 80's rock...and it's fucking awesome, good length as well, doesn't drag on.

8. Janis Joplin - Little Girl Blue: Joplin is little talked about in these parts, but man did she have one of the most emotional voices ever? Maybe the best voice of all time for me, and this is her greatest vocal performance so obviously it's absolutely amazing. The best sonic portrayal of depression ever seen, one where you're told not to be happy or snap out of it, but to just sit watching raindrops until it passes.

9. Glenn Morrison - Triangles & Strings: Great little cut of tech house from earlier this year, definitely one of the best dance songs of the year.

10. Cage - Ballad Of Worms: Some pretty tough imagery here, as he described his girlfriends slow death from some sort of debilitating disease. One of the best hip hop songs ever IMO.

Gah. My beloved youngster saved his hard-earned allowance to buy me that for my birthday one year, and I barely got through it once.
Ted Falconi
It Was a Good Day (Remix) - Ice Cube
The Lost Feeling - Saint Vitus
(Now That's) The Barclords - Urge Overkill
Free Jumps - Andrew W.K.
Sad and Young - Trans Am
Party Lessons - Singer
After All (The Dead) - Black Sabbath
Walk In Cold - Naked Raygun
Freedom - The Frogs
Politicians In My Eyes - Death
Raj (Noble Con)
Ride – Drive Blind
Why is this on the playlist when I could be listening to “Dreams Burn Down” instead?
Jeff Mills – Alarms
They sound more pings, don’t they.
Grace Jones – I’ve Done It Again
“First to vote for Roosevelt back in ’33”? The election was in 1932.
Ellen Allien – Feel Like
I always felt like Ellen had this really great sense for small noises and pitch shifts but her stuff from the past few years has just left me cold.
Miko Mission – Thinking of You
Summer’s over, I can’t listen to a swarthy Italo banger like this. ;_;
Holy Ghost! – I Will Come Back
Goes well with the above, but it has a chill that’s much more appropriate for the season.
Double Dagger – No Allies
I once saw these people play in a long low-ceiling space above an auto shop. It was the end of summer and the place was completely humid and basically dripping with moisture.
Luther Vandross – Creepin’
“creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep into my dreamyeahyeahyeah”
Yonlu – I Know What It’s Like
I forget who this guy is, but he does a great late-period Elliott Smith impression.
Sannhet – Whittier & Atlantic
This is a really good sorta Bark Psychosis-sounding band, but there’s weirdly little on the Internet about them.

Dennis Brown - Things in Life: I wonder how much music on my IPod is the direct result of me hearing it in a movie? A good amount I would suspect. This was in 'Chungking Express' and is terrific, always makes me kinda happy.

Los Bravos - Black is Black: One of the songs that I used to hear every single damn day when I worked in a kitschy 50s-style fast food place and is one of the few that don't make me want to drown someone in the fryer.

Ira Newborn - The Morning After: Yeah, I downloaded the 'Planes Trains and Automobiles' soundtrack.

Holy Fuck - Lovely Allen: I wonder how much music on my IPod is the direct result of me hearing it in a commercial? Not as much as movies, but quite a bit, still. This was in a car commercial.

Tammy Wynette - D.I.V.O.R.C.E.: I love Wynette's sad sad sad songs.

Royksopp - Remind Me: You know what the worst is? When you're watching a commercial and go "I like that song" and go out searching for it and it turns out you already own it but never really listened to the album in question. That's what happened after I heard this in a Geico commercial.

m83 - Slight Night Shiver: This came on this morning when I was too lazy to get out of bed. I love the crickets and the sound of the cars whizzing by in the night.

Archie Bell & the Drells - I Can't Stop Dancing: It's almost the exact same guitar as on 'Tighten Up' but with equally silly lyrics about how music comes on and how Mr. Bell has to dance.

Jawbreaker - Do You Still Hate Me?: Jawbreaker is the best.

The Dream - Yamaha: I'm really starting to dig the new Dream album. Those middle three tracks (which he's released as 'The Trilogy') are sooooo good (Yamaha/Nikki Pt. 2/The Abyss).
