Their collective output may not astound (in terms of quantity that is), but the music sure does biggrin.gif

There's probably not a SOMBIE who's any sort of regular here who couldn't tell you my holy trinity. After them, the next 3 might be:

Elvis Costello
Pete Townshend
Bruce Springsteen
lurker
Not the coolest or most imaginitive ever, but this is mine:

The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd

Or, depending on my mood, replace Pink Floyd with The Who.

Huge, huge. Beautiful Midnight (Canadian, not the US version) is my #1 all-time album. Yet, due to my location, I've never been able to see him. He was supposed to hit Chicago last year, but scrapped the U.S. leg of the tour before tickets even went on sale.

Let me guess...

and Patty Griffin? (not sure about Patty)

matt good is brilliant. i'm actually from Canada, and he stops by my university to play on-campus usually twice a year (he's supposedly coming back in a month or two, which im stoked for). personally, i think his solo stuff is even better than the stuff he does with the MGB (Avalanche was one of my fav albums of '03)

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew: Bob Dylan, Prince & Paul Westerberg.

Though seriously, I don't think I can narrow it down to three. I just love the Beatles and Radiohead and too many other bands too damn much.

Avalanche is my second-favorite album of his, though I'd put MGB's Loser Anthems EP between that and Beautiful Midnight. However, White Light Rock & Roll Review is probably my least favorite of his major albums, outside of Last of the Ghetto Astronauts. It's not terrible, but it has a couple so-so tracks and one I actively dislike.

Did you get In a Coma? The special edition is well worth the cash. Excellent DVD, and the new tracks are lovely.

I know what you all really meant to say was:

James Brown - the (God)Father

Prince - the Son

Charlie Watts - the Holy Ghost
Montana
As of right now:

Flaming Lips (the new one kinda bores me though)
M83
Jayhawks (with Olson - so that only leaves me 4 records).

Musicians or bands? Seems like it's being interpreted loosely, and I think it makes a big difference.

Mine (musicians) would be:

Mikko Aspa
Devin Townsend
Robert Fripp

I think I misread the thread. The three above are who I consider "the holy trinity," but couldn't live without: Stuart Murdoch, Sufjan Stevens, Ted Leo.

for the record, i originally meant single musicians (ex. Thom Yorke as a musician, not Radiohead as a band), but then i got to thinking, what the hell, who am i to tell you who your holy trinity is? besides, if you can't live without the Beatles, for example, it isn't really fair to have to credit only one member of the band. so as long as the number is 3, its fair game... (sorry Phil, no quadrilogy allowed regardless how amazing Destroyer is lol...besides, limiting yourself to three is part of the fun biggrin.gif)

Favorite record, post Pixies?

I'd put Teenager of the Year up there with the best Pixies.

I never understood why Frank's solo stuff isn't as highly-regarded as the Pixies. If I had to pick one canon, I'd probably take Frank's just on sheer quantity.

TOTY is the best solo Frank, Dog in the Sand is probably the best FB&TC album.

Agreed on all counts...I even dig Honeycomb. Only Frank could make "Song of the Shrimp" cool.
