8th place goes to Person Pitch

and

24 hours to go.

Knocking the multiple vote thing on the head it's worked well but now it's crunch time.

Mitchell - I could be wrong, but is the Roman Numeral accurate in the thread title?

No, It's a typo. Excellent spot, Nick.

Should read IV not IIV

Your time has come, Battles.

That Kanye is still on here..troubles me deeply. He should've been knocked off first so we could squabble over albums like Person Pitch and Neon Bible. As much as I don't care much for either of those, Graduation is ridiculous.

Stronger is a useless single, repetitive crap. "You should be honored by my lateness / That I would ever show up to this fake shit." Oh, shut up already, you arrogant cunt. There, as its thread suggested, I had to use that word at some point.

Log out of the board, check the poll results, and then log back in and vote.

I did this every round last year but I guess I don't care enough to go through the trouble this time.

After going a glorious 5 for 6 in the first three rounds, the results going forward are inconsequential to me. Ergo, my vote is for sale.

Neon Bible and Spoon. For shame at people voting Battles!
arkin
I still say "Someone Great" is not the lesser of the two LCD songs. It was my #1 single and shall remain so.

"Underdog" goes because it's my second least favorite song on that album and Kanye goes because, I dunno, he just does.
Shackleton's Great Adventure
I think I've voted against Kanye and "Umbrella" every round.

Spoon or Radiohead should win this. And one of the LCD singles.

I may be wrong, but I thought I posted somewhere that I wasn't fond of 'Neon Bible' myself. I just have a problem with Kanye over all the others on the list, but I wouldn't call it a rage, I intended the over-the-top posts to be humorous, which apparently failed.

To put things right, I don't hate Graduation, I just don't think it comes anywhere near any of the other albums on the list, even the ones that I don't like. To me, it's just an average at best rap album, sure, Kanye's ridiculous "I'm better than everyone on Earth" attitude annoys me, but having graduation on this list strikes me as little better than having that Timbaland album on it. 07 had some pretty good albums that could have been where Graduation is. Oh well.

Graduation was one of my top 3 albums from last year and I love Kanye, so of course I disagree. But even if you dislike Kanye, at least admit that his album was 56 times better than that Timbaland trainwreck. Ugh, most albums that have ever been released are better than THAT album.

If I said I loved Graduation, could you explain how you manage to love Kanye? An average rapper, with such a superiority complex it's scary. What was that quote? "I'm the best human being"? And any time he doesn't win an award..wow, what a hissy fit.

Anyway, I'm only too happy to agree to disagree on the album, I'm not a big fan in general, but it's not hate for rap, if this was a year of release for Any Eminem album (aside from Encore, blech) I'd be rooting for it to an extent. Heck, I'd probably be alright if Below the Heavens had showed up on this list. I just can't stand Kanye, or (as I find it) his overrated music.

But sure, I exaggerated to emphasize a point, his album was better than that Timbaland thing.
Duff.
I dunno, Eminem is about a hundred times more annoying than Kanye.

I could probably type out a defense of Kanye West, but Useless Rocker could do it better, so I'll let him.

Really? I've always kind of liked Eminem, he's never struck me as arrogant. At least not that arrogant.

Anyway, it wasn't really an attack on Kanye in earnest, I was mostly kidding. However, I would really like to know how one gets past that arrogance. Or what is superb about his music. And there's no sarcasm there, I'd really like a positive opinion on him so I consider my potential error.
Duff.
Em and Ye are similarly self-absorbed. I think Kanye's handling fame better than Eminem, who kinda went off on everyone, his whining increasing exponentially the more records he sold. Compared to a few mildly entertaining hissy fits and a whole lot of ridiculous boasting, I dunno, it just seems boring and depressing. At least Kanye's funny, and still has enough presence of mind to know he goes too far sometimes. I think he's a lot like Sean Combs, in that a lot of people don't notice how they're completely in on the joke.
wishbone
Atlas is too long to be a single that gets a lot of airplay on the radio (I've played it before). And most radio stations are probably not going to often play a song like Paper Planes that has gun shots as a prominent part or the chorus.

Personally I like both of them though.

Neon Bible and Graduation are currently leaded at #1 and #2. I don't know what I think about that yet.

Wait, are you serious? I like(d) Eminem, but he spent a lot of time reminding everyone how great he was, how he "saved Dr. Dre's career", how many records he sold, how he had more 'crediiblity' than certain other rappers/celebrities, how he'd essentially make the people in his life who made him suffer somehow suffer now that he had fame/power. After a while, it was kind of pathetic. We get it. It's 2004, you've been famous for like 6 years, you've got money and respect and success - get over it and stop taking shots at people.

I've been thru this whole defense-of-Kanye thing in too many threads before. If you don't find what Kanye does appealing, I doubt I can convince you. (Though I find it strange that a big fan of Eminem would be so dismissive of Kanye of all people.) I think Ye has great taste, his stuff has a soul, an honesty and a personal touch that's missing from most artists, I think he has a good sense of humor and he's entertaining. Act or not - I'll take Kanye's "I shoulda won that award!" over everybody else's polite fake bullshit "it's an honor just to be here and just to be nominated".

how does one get past Kanye's arrogance? I don't know. How do people get the past the arrogance of Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, almost every rapper ever, etc.? I still don't understand why one of the big press angles on Kanye is still "He's arrogant". This stuff is never brought up in the first few lines of reviews of Jay or Lil Wayne albums.

I wouldn't say I'm a "big fan" of Eminem, the problems you mentioned did somewhat kick in for me with Encore, which is why I didn't praise it earlier. However, I do have a soft spot for him, and his new album if it ever is released, looks to move past all that crap. Right or wrong, he's never seemed arrogant to me, just blunt as hell. I agree that near (if not all) rappers are arrogant, but Kanye seems more so to me. However, I don't like Jay-Z either. Jay-Z may be extremely arrogant, but Kanye more obviously comes off as such because of his especially ridiculous comments. Maybe the main problem is the soul and honesty you see in his work, I don't.

OTFM.

Plenty of great songs left, up there, but I really, truly, totally hate a number of the remaining records, minus Boxer, Spoon (which are more-or-less listenable and have some stunning tracks, but are shit, on the whole) and In Rainbows, which I pretty much love (...as long as I can tune out what Yorke's singing about, rather than how he's singing).

Also worth noting that each of the remaining albums feature at least one of my favorite songs of last year, singles or not. Well, not Neon Bible. Damn, that record was ass. Even assier than the others.
