No need to "discuss," since their "unfuckwithability" is not really subject to reasonable debate.

better than The Stooges, or so I've been told

I'm not familiar with any of their studio albums, but always dug the familiar tracks that are on the various Walsh / James Gang compilations.
If anyone wants to up "Yer' Album" or "Rides Again", I'm definitely game.

(found it elsewhere)

My dad had Rides Again and Thirds ("Midnight Man" is my jam), so I've been a fan for about 30 years.
They became a quartet and put out a half dozen or so records after Joe Walsh left, but I don't think I've ever heard one. I see them used every now and again - I doubt they sold a whole lot in the first place, so they're a little hard to find, but they're never too pricey when they do turn up. Maybe next time I see one I'll get it and report back.

While your years as a fan outnumber my years on this earth, my old man was also a big James Gang fan.

Rides Again is so fucking great. I'll have to look into Thirds...

I know I ask for this every time these guys get brought up, but can someone please give me a good start point on these dudes?

Ive always dug Walsh, and found him to be the most tolerable of all the Eagles.

If you dig that (and if you don't you're a soulless loser who cannot appreciate good rock boogie country southern awesomeness), then try

Thanks for the links AMS, but do you have an alternate link for Rides Again?

Im listening to Thirds right now and its really good, but cant get to Rides Again as rapidshare is testing a new kind of clairvoyant captcha system where it doesnt bother to show you the pic of the inscrutable code it wants you to enter.

Yer Album is my favorite. Totally "classic rock," but also fairly raw for that sort of thing. In a fun way. "Take A Look Around" is like some sort of lost classic that I'm sure Montana shrooms to daily, the "Bluebird" cover is ace, "Funk #48" rocks harder than its hookier sequel... good stuff.

Rides Again is decent.

I listened to Thirds one time and hated it. Except "Walk Away," but everybody knows that that one is awesome.

And that's all I have to say about this band.

Thanks for the u/l. Never listened to them before, great stuff. Black Crowes want to be them obviously.

Obviously a fan and naturally gonna bring up the point that they are a Cleveland group, formed at Kent State where they were all going to college.

I see drummer Jimmy Fox once in awhile as he's a customer.

Original guitarist/vocalist before Walsh was a guy named Glenn Schwartz. He left and went to LA and played in Pacific Gas and Electric who had a minor hit "Are You Ready" on the Nuggets collection.

Schwartz is now a crazy born again who still wails on blues guitar then yells and berates the bar crowd for their sinful ways between songs. Used to even go stand on a soap box between sets and preach outside the clubs between sets.

A few years back on a couple occasions Schwartz would be been doing his Tuesday night gig when in will walk Walsh, unannounced to the crowd, and they'll jam all night. Never was lucky enough to have been there for those rare times.

Always love this video of Walk Away

Bass player Dale Peters and his wife just left.
Always good talking music and hearing tales.

Obviously a fan...

You should check out the new Buffalo Killers LP, if you haven't already. These kids "get it".

Just sayin'...

These guys absolutely blew my doors off live at Southgate House a couple years ago. We had just played our set and were feeling pretty good about ourselves until Buffalo Killers destroyed the joint and made us feel like sissies. I'm still waiting for an album that lives up to their live show. but, yeah, I heartily support this recommendation. (james gang, too, of course)

How is the James Gang stuff with Tommy Bolin?
velocity
Did someone say Tommy Bolin?

3-4 songs in one.
