i can find room for a face-melter of a bridge in any song, especially in one that is standard, down-strumming, pj does power punk. it screams out to be broken up with something bigger, something more, something
something.
not everything has to
fit all the time. without the bridge, this song is pedestrian. this song is
Mankind.

http://mobileimage.ztango.com/sound/vttone...ndedits0820.mp3weird sounding song, but i dig it. almost sounds STP-ish, which is amusing. Ed's vocals as it fades out sound pretty shredded, doubt he'll pull that off live.

he'll pull it off, but it'll likely sound fairly strained (like much of his higher range these days)

well, if you're looking for the guy who used to scream and soar his way through shows in the 90's, then yeah. But he has developed into a better "singer" - using his voice in different ways to fit a song.
he ain't 25 anymore - for better and for worse.

Aug 20 2009, 06:25 PM
i think we can objectively agree that ed's vocals have mostly gotten worse in the last 5-10 yrs. i can't really stand listening to him from the early PJ days anymore. i happen to think he really hit his stride vocally between 96-2000. still a very powerful voice, but he didn't really force things as much and he lost some of the annoying vocal tics that he had from early on. I think his voice started noticeably declining between 2000-03 and since then he's really been a shell of his former self.
TSLOW
Aug 20 2009, 06:55 PM
while i disagree that he's not that bad nowadays, his sweet spot was right around '98, especially on some of the live boots during the yield tour.

Life Wasted was pretty good too. but i'm enjoying this upbeat spirit to these new songs. again, i'm just hoping the whole album maintains a relatively consistent tone throughout
