so let me get this right...

the live album doesn't come with the cds, only with the vinyl?

Nope. You can get the live show as part of the 3 CD package.

So on the Pearl jam message board, somebody is stating that this festival thing they are doing this summer is going to be at alpine...does anybody have any inside info or thoughts?

Also, if at Alpine, how many tics do you think will go to Ten club? One person is saying all, but I can't believe that Pearl Jam would come to Wisconsin for the first time in I don't know how many years and then not make most of the tickets available to the public...even without the festival thing, they could probably easily sell out at least one regular show at Alpine. With it being a special event and all, I am thinking they could do three nights easy with high demand.

the info on their website is very, very confusing. if you look at the press release, it says the live show is part of it. but then when you go to the store itself it makes no mention of the live disc being part of the combined deluxe cd editions, but only the super deluxe version, until you actually go into it and then it says that it's part of it.

maybe i'm just really hungover, but it's very confusing.

i did post on one of the sites that i noticed Social D has no chicago date on their upcoming US tour, but just about everywhere else in the midwest. they seem like a band that would play at PJ fest

just reading about the vs and vitalogy reissues is painful. way too many options and permutations. i'll stick w/ my circa mid90s cd copies, thanks.

the festival will be 2 or 3 days

i'd imagine they'll sell as many tickets to fan club members as possible, which might be all of them, yes.

Alpine, or for MN folks, there's talk of Detroit Lakes. wink.gif
solace
hah.

Detroit Lakes would certainly allow for more capacity than Alpine...

my thing is, if i can't get in the seated area at Alpine, i won't go. i'm not about to spend 2 days on the lawn with 30k+ people. and there's only 7500 seats at Alpine, so the chances of getting those will be tough unless they go by seniority.

Exactly. No way I'm doing GA or festival seating for this. People aren't going to move once in their spot. It's too bad they can't do a traveling festival, I think tons of people plan on going to this

Exactly.

Also, I don't think you'll be able to order the SuperDeluxe from Amazon or somewhere else. The Ten Club note says it's only available through the site. That blows.
solace
yeah. i swore they said it was a Ten Club exclusive with Ten too, so who knows.

highly doubt they'll limit it much though... it's obvious they wanna earn as much $$ as they can from these re-issues

just so much more stuff i could do with that $170 than spend it on something that will sit and gather dust. i looked at the Ten one for about a half hour when I first got it for my wife's b-day and it's sat since. lol

what do you dudes have against lawn seats? i've had some good times occupying lawn seats.
solace
not my idea of fun.

plus, no offense, but a good majority of PJ fans are meathead jock types whose other favorite artists are DMB, Linkin Park, Jack Johnson, etc.

i think thats the point. everyone who goes will get there 10 hours before it opens and just sit there. i waiting 6 hours for pj at lolla 07 and that was more than enough. i like to have room to move, eat food and drink liquids. im sure it will be fun and honestly i want to see the band because i missed them last year while on vacation.

Yup. 2 of the last 3 PJ shows I've been to I've been sat next to dopes who buy four beers each at once, and proceed to get smashed before the show starts, then jump around like idiots slamming into people. It's one thing if it's a GA show, but when it's seated, it's a problem. One of them even ripped up the seat in front of him and started waving it in the air. rolleyes.gif

Being a fan of this band is a frustrating experience. Plus having a fan club that is actively at odds with the fans doesn't help.

I think the Alpine situation will be resolved shortly ... I haven't heard any movement on the "festival at Alpine end of August/Labor Day weekend" info for a few weeks.
tjenz
They seem like a pretty fan friendly band to me.

They tease with the announcement of some sort of sumer destination festival. This creates buzz.
Fans get mad because they've only been given a bit of info. Want to know everything before everything can be confirmed.

If a multi-day Alpine fest pans out and you camp, here's your spot...

http://barkrivercampgrounds.com/

A little further than the others, but they do shuttles for major shows. It has lots of space, it's cheap, it's clean, and they have a pool and cafe on site, to boot. Stayed there for Phish last summer and enjoyed the hell out of it.

Edit: And, shit, I think you can see my little yellow tent (and possibly me?!) in this picture...

TSLOW
thanks for the recommendation - does it take 127 hours to get out of the parking lot on said shuttle after the show?

Hah! Nah, nowhere near as bad as you might imagine. This campground is definitely further away than a lot of the ones within striking distance of AV, but IMO, the laid back nature and "amenities" make it worth it.

ukelele album = FUCK YEAH

EDIT: I imagine these are the songs rumored to be in Cameron Crowe's "We Built A Zoo" this fall?
The Sheck
This rumor has been floating around for ten years, I bet. Can't wait to see the tracklist. Some of the songs have been floating around out there for a while. 'Goodbye' was on a soundtrack a few years back, for one.
solace
i've heard demos of most of the songs that will likely be on this 3-4 years ago... can't say it's necessarily my thing.
tjenz
Can't say I'm really excicted about a uke album.
JohnnySuperstar
I'd like to Belushi EV's ukelele.
I understand mellowing with age, but Vedder's ukelele, surfing bullshit (no more wave, water, ocean imagery...we get it), and kinship with dudes like Ben Harper and Jack Johnson are slowly ruining what is good about Pearl Jam. Maybe he can go do this solo things and they can get back to making some decent rock music. Maybe even let Mike McCready play some guitar. Maybe a lead, even.

speaking of PJ side projects....

Anyone heard Ament's side project Tres Mts?

Is it any good?
TSLOW
very psyched for this - remember hearing some of this stuff almost 10 years ago and immediately wanting him to put them out. can't believe he's finally doing it. actually think it's a cool move to do a uke album instead of a straight-up solo album. think it helps expectation levels that it's so specific and it doesn't take away from something that could have gone on a pearl jam record.

Side project with McCready, one of the Fastbacks, and Doug Pinnick of King's X. Parts of it are really good, others not so much.

Tres Mts will be on Kimmel 3/24 if you want to check them out "live", though.

and mccready contributed to tres mts but isn't 'in' tres mts.

Don't think much of that stuff has really permeated Pearl Jam's music, though. Maybe "Just Breathe" and some scattered ocean imagery.

For what it's worth, the Into the Wild soundtrack was better than the last few Pearl Jam records, imo.

"Longing to Belong" is a nice, pretty song. I like the cello in the background.

PJ start work on new album next month.

QUOTE
here's so much going on between this Tres Mts. project and Pearl Jam stuff for the rest of the year that I'm going to be plenty busy," bassist Jeff Ament says. That, Pearl Jam fans, is a huge understatement.

Ament's first trip to SXSW later this week with his new side band, Tres Mts., is just the tip of the iceberg of a hectic 2011 for Pearl Jam and its members -- one which Ament tells Billboard.com will hopefully include a brand new Pearl Jam album and a solo tour by frontman Eddie Vedder, in addition to the already announced the Cameron Crowe-directed Pearl Jam documentary, official book and weekend festival, all celebrating the band's 20th anniversary. Throw in a new Eddie Vedder solo album, a Soundgarden record in the works (which includes drummer Matt Cameron, who plays in both bands), and Ament putting the finishing touches on his own second solo album, and you've got a very full docket for the veteran Seattle quintet.

All of the new action starts in April, Ament explains, when Pearl Jam convenes not only to begin recording the follow up to 2009's "Backspacer," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, but also to announce the location and other details for the Pearl Jam Twenty festival, which Ament says will likely take place on or around Labor Day weekend.

"We did a whole bunch of demos and everybody's got a disc of 25 [songs] right now," Ament says of Pearl Jam's plans to hit the studio next month. "April will be the time where we get together and learn to play all these demos and figure out which 12-15 of them float to the top. Hopefully we can get something done this year."

"There's been so much focus on the past that I think all of us are really excited to make a new record and have something to look forward to because we've been digging in the boxes in our basement a lot the last year or so," Ament says.

That digging, of course, has been in the service of creating the Pearl Jam Twenty documentary, which tells the story of the band's career, and an accompanying book, both due in late summer/early fall around the exact 20th anniversary of the band's blockbuster debut album, August 1991's "Ten."

The group also unearthed a raft of archival goodies for the special edition box set of reissues due on March 29 -- which includes expanded versions of 1993's Vs. and 1994's Vitalogy.

As far as the Pearl Jam festival goes, Ament says that the band is looking to finalize the location and the other bands on the bill by the end of March and announce everything in April. "We've reached out to a few [other bands]. It's mostly people that we're friends with. I don't think that anybody's fully signed on yet. We're not 100% where we're going to have it yet, so it's a little bit tricky... If it's Labor Day, that's three or four months; that should be plenty of time for people to make reservations."

Frontman Eddie Vedder, who is currently on tour on his own in Australia, will probably be hitting the road solo again this year, according to Ament. Vedder, meanwhile, has also made a new solo album likely due in the coming months. He recently told Austin, Texas radio station AM 1300 that the songs were written on the ukulele, which has been a staple of his non-Pearl Jam work for a decade. It hasn't yet been confirmed whether any of the many ukulele songs Vedder debuted at solo shows in early 2002 -- but never released -- will be on the new album, but a version of one of them, "Longing To Belong," was posted by the website Antiquiet yesterday.

Ament, for his part, also has a his own new solo album "pretty much in the can." Recorded "a few months ago," Ament says he's "just waiting for a little bit of airspace to finish it up" and that it probably won't see release until 2012.

As previously reported, Soundgarden -- drummer Cameron's other band -- has also been in the studio making its first studio album in 15 years. No release date has yet been set.
