They are all terrible. Who's ears are these made for anyway? I have never in my life had a pair that have sounded decent and stayed in place. They are the worst invention in the world yet tons of idiots where these things like they are the new glow bracelet you wore on the first day of school back in 1982. Does anyone enjoy these damn nuisances?

i like them for running and cause they'll fit in my pocket. sorry, as much as i'd like a pair of big cans (pun somewhat intended) i don't want to have to haul around an extra bag to carry them in.

I guess you have big earholes.
And they've been around for a long time.

Medical reportage I saw on last night's news say they are the worst thing to put in your ears, a major cause of hearing loss in young people. Doctors recommend noise-reducing headphones (of course they are much more expensive). The current earbuds I've got only cost $1 at Osco, and while not great quality, they suffice my needs for walking with a CD player. But I would like some nice ones for extreme chillout (Pink Floyd CDs, etc.).

I can't stand them. After about 15 minutes, they begin to hurt my ears...guess my ears just weren't deisgned for buds.

I can't stand earbuds. They sound terrible, and they always fall out of my ears.
I generally use these:

Sony MDR-A30
They're cheap, but they don't fall out of my ears.

I dislike how everyone with an Ipod uses them as if there is no other headphone alternative, it makes you an easy mark for a mugging, that's for sure.
I lug around 100 dollar headphones so i'm often out of place, oh well.

But is your iPod attached to the headphones?
I agree about the earbuds making you a mark. There was an article in the Sunday Trib about that not too long ago.

I have never been able to wear any kind of ear bud or head phone outside, it makes me completely paranoid that I can't hear what's going on around me. I only wear them indoors or while riding as a passenger in a car.

Had those in 1986, and they hurt more than earbuds do.
Actually, I'm perfectly happy with earbuds if they have foamies on them. Though I've only just started using them again...I'd avoided earphones since 1998, out of concern for my hearing. I'll never have the volume loud again.

i have a sony discman and ear buds, which are completely white, so i look like i have enough money to afford an ipod. they are so damned painful. i can only go about 30 minutes before my ears ache. maybe i just have small holes. i don't know. i'm not so much of an audiophile that i'm distracted by their sound. when you are just on the bus or walking downt he street a few blocks you don't need pristine sound quality. nonetheless, boo. they hurt.

i wear these

and these

the earbuds are good for pocketing, and great for leaving on in class, otherwise i'd rather real headphones.
back to the topic, White buds came with my creative, but i couldn't stand them because of all the ipods out there. my colour of choice would be black.
and the next pair of anything i buy will be noise cancelling. i'm terrified of losing my hearing and i probably deserve to.

I use Nike buds similar to these except they're black.

Recently bought some little gizmos that look like shampoosuicide's and fit over the iPod buds, but haven't tried them yet.
Why do white earbuds make you a mark? Because people know you're connected to an iPod?

That took long enough to happen, I guess.

I got the 100 dollar shures. honestly it is a different listening experience. you pick up on every musical difference and each instrument stands alone. its great. I would really like to try the E5C's but I dont think I will feel comfortable shelling out 500 more for good music. anyway, they take about a week or two to get used to but dont fall out, form to your ears and sound wonderful. (not alot of bass on the E2c model though. still amazing sound in my book)

I've got these in black. They don't fall out, don't hurt, reduce outside noise so you don't have to turn them way up, and sound great. Only possible downside is not everyone likes the behind the neck design.

Analyst: Apple's 60-gig iPod 'at risk'
Company may phase out 60-gig Video iPod, which retails for $399, in favor of a new model, analyst says.
March 21, 2006: 10:20 AM EST
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Apple may be phasing out its 60-gigabyte Video iPod, according to one analyst who tracks the company.
The company has told its distributors that the 60-gigabyte iPod, which launched in October and retails for $399, is "at risk" until the end of April, meaning that it could be discontinued or replaced, according to Shaw Wu, an analyst for American Technology Research, Wu does not own shares of Apple (down $0.94 to $63.05, Research), and his firm does not do banking business with the company.
In a note to clients, Wu said he believes the company is readying a wide-screen video iPod with Bluetooth headphones that could be ready as early as the June quarter. The analyst said his checks indicate that Apple is working on such a product.
Rumors of a wide-screen video iPod have swirled since earlier this year when the Apple rumor site Think Secret reported that Apple was working on a new video iPod.
The new device reportedly has a screen that covers the entire face of the iPod and a "virtual click wheel" that appears only when a user touches the screen. The design resembled a patent that Apple recently filed for a tablet computer.
Officials at Apple were not immediately available for comment.

It's not much worse than getting stuck next to the speakers at a concert. Do you suffer from tinnitus or other head noises after shows?

I have these Sonys

Same as the ones mentioned above, but they have the little rubber parts that hook around your ears, which I've found helps keep them from getting ripped out. In that pic you can see the different bud covers.
For $30, they're really good-sounding.
