So I put on the canal phones and gave the new one a deep listen. I thought it was pretty good the first few times but holy shit this thing just clicked. these songs are absolutly great. I love the minor tone to most of the songs and they end up major. It might just have kicked it's self into top possition of the year so far.
Spencer Krug writes some amazingly thoughtful and abstract lyrics as well. give this disc an intense listen and disagree if you must. anyway...great disk
and A-Team...yeah I know. sorry pal

i still prefer Dan's vocals a bit to Spencer's, but Spencer is def a fantastic songwriter.

Yes, this is an excellent album.
It's not obvious at first: the songs are looser than and don't have the catchiness of Wolf Parade, but they're great in their own way. Love the melancholy mood throughout.
Spencer has one of the best voices around today.

Okay you hipsters, stop droppin' names and give it to me straight. I need a band or artist name (the kind you find on those dividers in the ol' record store) and an album name (which, I can assume is
That Sunset Rubdown. Though, at first, I thought I had stumbled on a stray ETC. thread about masturbation). I don't quite have my finger on the pulse the way simakos does, and this album sounds intriguing. Spencer this. Dan that. Hipsters...always dropping names and talking in code.

yeah there were a few "leaked" tracks played that night, Free Radicals, a new Built To Spill song, and something else.

"rubs Rubies into the dirt" is slightly harsh, but i do have to agree that "Shut Up" edges out Destroyer for the top spot of my preemptive "Best of 06" list. both albums are orgasmic, though, and make me very happy in my loins...

An awesome cover to go along with an amazing album! The release date seems so far away it hurts. Tool/Pearl Jam had better leak one hell of an album if they want to get my money come May 2nd, since i have a moral obligation not to buy 3 albums on one day, and as of right now my money is going to Mr. Krug & Co.

the best moment on the whole album is when the beautiful 7-minute opus "The Men are Called Horsemen There" ends, and then the keyboards kick in for the following track "Q-Chord". that is the moment when i forget about all other albums, and nothing, not even
10,000 days of avocados and rubies and everything all the time, matters.
edit: oh, and Casual Sunday, i think it was you who wanted the Sunset Rubdown EP, so i wanted to let you know that i finally got all 5 tracks. i can't up them now, but ill do so a little later on. here's hoping you check this thread...

got the EP out of the 2006 leaked thread about 10 minutes ago. havent listened yet cause I got some other listening and some reading of an actual book to do. I love the groove kick in from the title song. the only song I dont like is "if I ever hurt you it will be in self defense"...that one. other than that it is kickin ass still.

WHAT!?? track #4, "I'm Sorry I Sat on Your Hands..." is one of the 3 best songs.
don't look for rocking stuff on this album, it's the longer, slower stuff that makes it great.

at the least, i feel this is a grower. so we'll see how the second spin goes, i wasn't entirely sold on Wolf Parade either, and it grew to be a favorite of mine from last year.

This album was released yesterday and it's still awesome. Better, in some ways, than Wolf Parade. Not as punchy and immediately catchy, but more deeply-felt and beautiful.
I still love Mystics, but for pure emotional impact, Sunset Rubdown have the best album of the year so far.
It's the little album that could.

8.6 i was hoping for a little higher, but whatever.
i like this part:
"More interesting to note: The cumulative effect of Shut Up I Am Dreaming surpasses "I'll Believe in Anything"'s ostensible perfection. That's a brilliant song, yes, but this a brilliant album, ballooning with those sorts of moments on repeat."
and i agree with the last statement:
"This is rich stuff and it won't be surprising if some listeners prefer Krug's maniacal flights of fancy to Apologies to the Queen Mary's sense of balance. There's obviously much to be said for Wolf Parade's addictive push/pull switch hitting-- that overflowing seep between Bowie/Eno and jittery Iggy/Springsteen-- but it's also incredibly fun watching pop songs pulled apart and restitched into tiny rococo monuments and tossed skyward. All the Wolf Parade comparisons are a drag, sorry, but they're inevitable. Plus, the context's important: Because Krug followed some of the best material on Apologies with this elegant whallop, he's looking increasingly like an important songwriter rather than just another flavor-of-the-month."

8.6 sounds like about what I expected. I would give a higher score but thats another story.
only thing is they didn't even mention the title track, in my opinion worth more words than some of the others.
I'm waiting on cokemachineglow's review being that they seemed very enthusiastic about the ep and Wolf Parade was their number 1 last year. wonder if they are afraid to "beat a dead horse" not knowing it's still alive and kicking
