Or the fact that they used to be called "Sambo's" and had pictures of blackface in their Menu?

Plus they've been sued many times for discrimination. I remember seeing the Jeffersons in ads and thinking how they have been treated in reality was so different.

I used to have a black lab named sambo.......he was a good friend, we would eat acid together.

sorry 'bout that I'm a little loopy today. but his name was sambo, that part was true.
Uncle Remus
I miss Sambo's. What a great name.

What was the other place that was around? The one with the chubby white kid on the roof?

That is incorrect. Sambo's was a totally different restaurant chain, with no connection to Denny's.

Close but never in the city. They were all over Route 94 thru Indiana , Michigan & Ohio. I think there were some in Illinois but never saw one within the city limits.

I ate at the BigBoy in Danville once. I don't know why one would be excited about it.
Roland
The last time I ate at a Big Boys I ended up puking in a hotel lobby in Michigan's upper penninsula. It was a burger.

Yeah, it's just like Denny's, but with a smaller menu.

Kid got shot at a IHOP out here by an off duty cop after his new shady friends shortchanged on the bill. They were rushing off in their car and the cop decided to stop them with a hail of gun fire. Dude's band had just opened for Slayer too.

Maybe they are one of those chains like Hardee's. Hardee's could never make it anyhwere near Chicago. (from what I have seen). Out of this area, they are all over. Everyone that I have seen open in this area has closed down.

There are no Hardees in NorCal either. Are they anything like Perko's (a coffee shop chain seen only along state highways in the hinterlands)?

Hardee's is the east coast name for Carl's Jr.

Just like Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream is called Edy's back east.

This Denny's related discussion allows me to bring up a Denny's related story from the other night.

I was at Harrah's the other night at like 1 am, gambled until like 3 or so, and myself and my cronies were hungry, so we drove to a Denny's about 20 minutes north off of 55. Anyway, we walk in, and myself and my three dude friends sit down at a booth when this woman who is sitting at the counter approaches us. She looked kind of skanky, but who am I to judge.

Anyway, she says "you boys haven't ordered yet, maybe you can help me" to which she proceeds to put a white piece of paper face down on our table and walk away. I look at it and it is this hand written, photocopied note saying that she lost a precious ring (a "smokey topaz" or something to that effect) at the southside irish parade over the weekend and that we should call her if we find it. I proceeded to watch her the rest of the evening, and noticed how she only gave these sheets of paper out to males . A group walked in of two gals and a guy, and she didn't give them a paper.

So after thinking about it a while, I concluded that she was a prostitute giving out secret messages in her ring advertisement. When I concluded this, I yelled out to my friends "Yeah, I'll smokey topaz all over your face!" while holding this piece of paper she gave us. Well, turns out she heard me and gave me a pretty disgusted and offended glare.

So to summarize, stay away from Denny's unless you want to get blown in a bathroom stall by some skanky looking lass.

That's uneccesary dude, but really freaking funny. And all I was trying to say was something about it all smelled fishy...and it was probably that woman's crotch.
without_opinion
why the hate for cracker barrel?

we also had a hardee's in our hometown, then it burnt down one day. they rebuilt, and we called it Chardees. holy shit were we funny.
