Bloc Party's third album, 'Intimacy' will be available August 21. It can be pre-ordered now via the band's website:
http://www.blocparty.com.
The album will also be available as a CD which will be delivered from October 27 and feature additional songs. Anyone pre-ordering the CD will also receive the digital album from August 21.
Bloc Party alerted fans to 'Intimacy's existence, as well as their ability to purchase the record instantly, when they hosted their first ever web chat on August 18. The album follows on from the release of their hit single 'Mercury' released on 11 August.
The album produced by Paul Epworth (Silent Alarm) and Jacknife Lee (A Weekend in the City) was recorded in Kent and London. Some songs are Bloc Party at their most wildly experimental, while other tracks are simply classic Bloc Party, fitting in seamlessly amongst fan-favourites 'Helicopter', 'Banquet' and 'So Here We Are'.
Tracklist:
01. Ares
02. Mercury
03. Halo
04. Biko
05. Trojan Horse
06. Signs
07. One Month Off
08. Zephyrus
09. Better Than Heaven
10. Ion Square

disagree
the worst part was the whole experience of it
the second worst part was the am dj/morning zoo-crew effect he implemented on his voice towards the end of the song where his vocals just dropped in pitch drastically to something really low, deep, and absurd. god. that song was so bad.

Mercury was a great song. I don't get the hate. It's just a different direction, but seriously who didn't see this coming? One thing I didn't see coming was this release. I didn't think Bloc Party had it in them to release an album without months of hype. I love that bands are doing this now.

I just watched the video for "Mercury" on YouTube. It's the first time I've heard the song, actually. The only cool parts are the parts where it sounds like it's sampling "Shock the Monkey" and "Where I End And You Begin".
I'm kind of already over this whole "bands suddenly springing new albums" thing, too. I know they're doing it to combat leaks and it's exciting to have a new album by major bands popping up out of nowhere, but I'm an old-fashioned sucker for anticipation.

But it is not like we didn't know Bloc Party was working on a new album and that it was going to be out relatively soon.
I think the Radiohead one worked so well because there weren't that many people who thought they were actually that far in the process already, whereas I'm pretty sure I knew that there was going to be a new Bloc Party album this fall.

I guess I haven't been following the album closely at all then, because before reading this thread I thought this was going to a release in 09 somewhere. Not really that excited about this record, though. Oh well, hopefully they prove me wrong and release a great album.

No way. Maybe it was just because it came after Gogol which was pretty much the best show of the weekend, but I thought Bloc Party's set was
fucking awful. One of the most ordinary, boring, and below average shows I've seen by a band of their stature.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree because, to me, Gogol was an obnoxious violation of my senses. As I said in a previous post, they're the Andrew WK of ethnic music and fuck if that doesn't make me want to puke.
Thought Bloc Party had a massive sound and their drummer is damn ridiculous.

This comes as a shock. I'm quite a Bloc Party fan and I could've sworn that the last word on the album was an early 2009 release; I don't know anyone who expected a fall release..
not sure what to expect, I loved Flux but I STILL don't know where I stand on mercury. If this album really does have some old school Bloc Party mixed in with the weirdness then it might just be a masterpiece..

Is everyone talking about Lolla refering to the Friday set? Missed that but caught the aftershow at HoB with CSS. They were actually pretty good there - more of a club feel than you could get at an outdoor set, and the crowd was really into it.
Anyway, Flux > anything on AWITC > Mercury
Can't trust the P4k review on the new one after AWITC got a 7.5, so if by some stroke of magic, this album doesn't suck, I hope someone'll let me know. Otherwise, Silent Alarm will be a little tomb on my iPod to wasted to potential.

in a way, it's like acdc releasing a killer rap album or the shins attempting hard rock, regardless of the actual quality of the music i would be against it because im fan of their original sound. not to say i'm against experimentation but i like my rock bands to actually rock. guess you can't say this was as much out of left field (since flux i've been worried) as an acdc rap album would be, or is potentially mouthwatering either.

I like "Trojan Horse"
Not a huge fan of "Mercury" but I am glad that they are still becoming their own band and getting out from under the Gang of Four postpunk class of 03 shadow.
Like Ive said before, Silent Alarm was great but could have been made by any number of other bands. A Weekend in the City is when I actually started liking them and becoming interested in seeing where they'd take things, because I think that's around the time they started becoming their own band.
I'm actually kinda psyched to hear Intimacy.

Still haven't listened yet, but damn, that doesn't give me hope. By all accounts AWITC is becoming a better album by the minute. This sucks...they had so much potential! Flux showed them going in a great new direction.. and then Mercury... uh... yeah. If this album is like Mercury, god help us all.
EDIT:
Ares. What. The fuck.
What the hell!!?
Seriously jesus.
The vocals effect in the chorus are hilarious, kele sounds like a fucking elephant.
WHAT HAPPENED, BLOC PARTY?
THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON DRUGS
EDIT REDUX: I mean this is pretty weird, and I'm being reactionary on first listen, I can see this being enjoyable in the long run. but still, this is nowhere near what bloc party could have been...
Also this is clearly becoming the Kele Show. That's not particularly a bad thing but when you have what is probably the best rhythm section in "indie" this side of Interpol, fucking utilize it

I dunno, I don't think it's that bad at all. I expected alot worse after hearing "Mercury".
The first few songs are pretty much shit. They really can't pull off the grimey electro sound they're going for during that part. These New Puritans did the whole post-punk w/ electro/hip-hop edge much better earlier this year with their debut album.
Anyway, I think things pick up around "Halo", which is vintage Silent Alarm-era Bloc Party. "Trojan Horse" reminds me of the more agressive tracks on Weekend, which is a good thing. "Signs" is quite endearing, much more interesting than the mellow romantic stuff of the last album. Aaaand "Ion Square" is a great epic closer.
Basically if you can get past the first few songs there's plenty of solid stuff on there.

Halo's definitely the best song on the record, that's for sure
