Remember that the point system is the same one that is used for the EOY album poll, one that is weighed heavily towards the top. Meaning that one of two high votes can outrank more votes in the lower spots.

Also consider we outside the top 150 still.

No, I just thought I wouldn't include them in a "greats" discussion for once.

It's completely silly to get worked up about the rankings in a favorites list that a ton of people are contributing to, but seeing Green Day and Sunset Rubdown above Michael Jackson made my heart sink a little bit. Thankfully, The Doors barely broke the top 200.

Otm. I may have talked about it out here before, but when JB did Taste of Chicago about 10 years back, he pulled out a 12 or 13 minute long version of "It's a Man's Man's World." First, that was a pretty daring move for a free show. Second, it killed. Dude was pretty awesome performer till the day he died.

And he looked great for another 6 months after he died! laugh.gif

Personally, for live music, I don't think it gets much better than the Dead.

Ugh. I saw these guys twice, and halfway through the second show I was wondering why I hadn't learned my lesson at the first. 3 hours of wankery. Jesus, 13 minutes of wandering and eventually finding your way back to a song is not great live music -- it's ADD on stage.

Here's another name to consider when talking about legendary live shows: Bruce Springsteen. The thing about his shows? They never required drugs or stage props to be great. tongue.gif

no drugs, just lots of cheap beer

Where can you find cheap beer at the overblown places he plays these days? That's part of why I don't go to see him anymore. The bigger reason is all the fist pumping fans that only own "Born in the USA."

That said, the shows are still pretty damn great. Hey, Maloney (if you're out there), remember when he blew the lights at Comiskey and ran around 'til he found a flashlight to shine on Clarence during his sax solo? Classic. And Bhickman thought it was a bad show. As much as I love the guy, he never had a clue when it came to music. [/justkiddingbhickieyouknowiloveyoumorethanasammiesbeefsammich;-)]

The thing about Sprngsteen is, on the one hand he and the band have rehearsed EVERYTHING, so when they play/perform, it's as tight as can be; on the other hand, this is all seemless to the audience -- you never know what to expect.

Yes, it is quite pretty. It soon gives way to Giras' wonderful croon. Depressing, but beautiful. Modern so-called "Goth" bands should learn from them." - Zero As A Limit
