Makes me wish i had put an ounce of thought into my list and made it longer than 10 artists.
I didn't really look at any of the lists... Do we think this is Radiohead vs. The Beatles?

Meaningless prediction: Counting Crows would have been higher in the list if they'd stopped making (the same old) music after '94...
Kinda sad no one else listed my favorite Kiwi band, the Mutton Birds. I guess I was hoping as obscure as they are in the US someone else around might have heard and liked them, and they'd find their way in someone at the end of the ranking... Then again, there was a Bailterspace vote, so it's good to see at least some small NZ bands get a bit of appreciation.

Yeah, if they'd broken up after
Recovering the Satellites, or just faded into obscurity instead of still having the occasional chart hit with Joni Mitchell covers and terrible soundtrack pablum, they'd garner a lot more respect. Those first two albums are good enough that I could see people ignoring everything else and keeping them on a list of favorites. Hell, if anything else on the new album had been anywhere near the greatness of "Cowboys", I may have been willing to throw them at the bottom of mine...

I thought for sure we'd get a coolrock quote on simon here... hold on...
QUOTE
Can I get a witness? I never understood the love for these two fuckwads; Paul Simon coronated as the Prince of Pretension, either looking down his nose or wagging a scolding finger at the un-illuminated masses while Artie hung about, teasing his hair and getting dangerously close to being arrested for Loitering in Front of a Microphone.
I should've known back in the sixties when my brother's sensitive, kiln-tending gal pals went straight from Odetta and Joan Baez to Simon and Garfinkle, bypassing the menace of "Highway 61" to fly like sparrows with broken wings to the spiral notebook and begin writing poetry wrought with "gossamer rain" while S & G plaintively needled them about not having read enough T.S. Elliot and constantly reminded them that they could never be sensitive enough.
This accounts for about 40% of why you kids are so fucked up, btw, or, more simply put,
" Hello lampost. What'cha knowin'?"
Anecdotedly, one of my former band-mates worked very closely with Paul Simon on one of the cuts on his bloated messterpiece, "Graceland", and had great stories about Paul being one of the world's biggest assholes, including, at one point, when his group tried vainly to wrestle some writing credit away from the greedy midget's fat little fingers(for a song that was basically theirs), he told them ( direct quote),
" You could get hurt."
Yee-haaa!
" Hello, Vito, my old friend.
