Conan comes to Chicago
Fresh from his triumphant visit to Finland, Conan O’Brien is coming to Chicago.

“Late Night with Conan O’Brien” will broadcast four shows live from the Chicago Theatre starting May 9, NBC announced Monday.

O’Brien will tell viewers how to get tickets to the five Chicago broadcasts on the March 28 edition of his show, which airs 11:35 p.m. weeknights on WMAQ-Ch. 5.

Though David Letterman visited our fair city to do live broadcasts of his late-night show, that was way back in 1989, so we’re long overdue for a visit from a talk-show host.

O’Brien, who done live shows from Toronto and Los Angeles, has never done his show from the Windy City, though NBC’s press release says “Late Night” “has deep Chicago roots, from the numerous writers on the show who have honed their craft in Chicago at the famed Second City and Improv Olympic theaters to the show’s recurring ‘live’ Central Time Zone New Years Eve Countdown.”

O’Brien and his staff will have to work hard to top his recent visit to Finland. In an hourlong, pre-taped show that aired March 10, O’Brien easily mined comedy gold from that frosty nation and its self-effacing inhabitants (more on that here).

Hey, at least Chicago in May will seem like a tropical getaway compared to Finland in February.

I'd go see an episode.

I'm gonna go line up right now. Not sure where yet, maybe just random places -- NBC tower, Wrigley field, Oprah's house.

this should be great. Should sell out quick, though!

I don't even watch late night t.v. I would have no desire to go see in person. Talk about a waste of a day as well. You have to spend like 5 hours waiting around for crap like this. I remember seeing jerry springer back in the day. My friend saw Joan Espisito walking by and yelled "hey how is Horace Grants baby" she glared back at him. Classic stuff.

a few years back letterman would do a few shows in a row where'd he fly the entire audience in from Chicago or Indy or something like that, those were pretty amusing.

i've seen "late night" and "the daily show" a few times and i hate the waiting in line, especially at "the daily show" because it's outside. this will undoubtedly be much the same. and it's rarely worth the wait.

wasn't the show's trip to toronto to get people interested in toronto after sars? chicago's not going through some similar tourism slump, though, right?

the joan esposito attack is pretty funny.

i'm in the same boat you are, but i do like conan, although i don't watch him regularly or even semi-regularly. being in studio audiences always seems like more work than fun. however, i am very interested in finding out who his musical guest will be. i'll start the billy corgan/smashing pumpkins rumor now...

it's not as bad as conan's - probably an hour or hour and a half for first row or two. it depends on the day.

well, he's from chicago and he's famous and he's rumored to be bringing the pumpkins back together.

i'd hardly say he's chicago's poster boy, but honestly, i can't imagine many outside of who has already been listed in this thread as a more "mainstream" (whatever that means these days) choice for a talk show.

eh, not as excited as you'd think. i've already seen the show live more times than i may want to admit so it's nothing really all that FANCY. but i will totally be there.

they'll (most likely) announce a number or email addy on the show tonight for tickets. and i dont think itll be as hard as you think. not everyone will get tickets but a good amount of the kids will.

Where's the love for R KELLY peoples?

He's sold millions of records and the comedy fodder is enough to have him on the show.
