I found this video yesterday when looking for my friend's performance on youtube. It's the quebecois company LaLaLa Human Steps, an excerpt from their film Amelia. After seeing this I am honestly contemplating flying to see them tour in the spring (sadly i already missed london):

Re: dance companies in the suburbs
This is what people with money put their daughters in who were not dedicated enough on an instrument. Ha, there's always one fat chick who had clueless parents that hoped she would lose weight during dance.

My sister is one example. Nearly all semi-artsy parents prefer an instrument to dance, but eventually figure their kid will suck at reading music.

as opposed to the actual artistic parents?
there was a dance co in my suburban hometown; it was the source of angst for most of my friends for the first 10 years of their life (as their parents forced them into it).

Full-blown art loving parents put their kids in a different kind of school for dance.

Two different Jonathan stories. One fella who was a friend of a friend was his roommate at one time in New York. I asked him how Jonathan was to live with. He thought it was great seeing as how he was basically never at home cause he was always on tour.
The later was a case where some friends I knew had gone to see his show and he was looking for a ride afterwards to his next gig. These guys had gone to see him and happened to be heading to the next town so they offered him a ride. They all squeezed into this small four-door sedan. Jonathan is in the back seat between to huskier guys suddenly perks up and says. "Hey! You guys aren't a bunch serial killers or nothin-are you?" They all laughed. Abruptly stopped and stared at each other and then at him. Jonathan, now a little more nervous than before began whistling that song.

Just beautiful...
And speaking of dancin', wish there was a better youtube video of the song "when i dance" than that kid rearranging his closet.
Well, when I dance that's passion And when I dance that's love And there's times I cause that attraction Well then I don't try to start I just don't try to stop And I don't blush cause I like it like that

Hi!
Thank you for writing about Amelia despite the low percent potential interest.. actually today i signed up for SOMB just because i had found your comment! This is a masterpiece, definetly! I've found it by luck on youtube and fell in love with it.. well, i tried finding out some info about their European tours - for this or any other of their shows - but i found nothing... so i was very happy to find your comment, could you please share some info?
thanks again Christina
