that was some opunk rock shit right tuhurrr
Uncle Remus
really? Hmmm...I hate hearing good things on artists after I've passed off the album to another writer.
Ben
whoa. wish i were there.
Uncle Remus
everyone who wants to rag on me about Creed/Stapp please take note of this joker's above post.
thrillho
ah, middle of the night drunk yancy posts would be so much more entertaining if i didn't know he had just driven home.
Wolfgang
Kid's not joking, Hot Chip were jammin that sex music all night long. It's been six hours since they left the stage and Chicago still doesn't know what hit them. I think I saw Yancy in the balcony but I'm still nervous about going up to random people and saying, "hey are you that dude from the internet??"

IPB Image
Totally not from last night but...
without_opinion
dammit, i turned down an invite from someone on the guest list. gotta re-prioritize my life and move "rock" up the list.

I'm surprised at the love of this band around here. I saw them a few months ago at the Bottle and hated them. Must have been something like being annoyed by a 4-foot lead singer tell me to shake my ass. And watching the lard-ass on the keyboards did nothing but incite laughter and actually made me nauseous.
stella del vinile
i watched them on a tivo'd episode of sunday's subterranean last night. it's like napoleon dynamite's little brother and james murphy got together and started a band. does not excite.

Pssh, teevee performances.

I still want SG's verdict, she was there.

they didn't even perform. they talked to that tool, jim shearer, and then a hot chip video played. meh.
Some Girl
everyone was there.

it wasn't as hyper dance party as cut copy were when they came thru but it was still great. i liked the whole set, but they should have played more from the warning. so, you think 'over and over' is a great single and then it rages live.

i was really attracted to the night (aside from it being at one of my fave hooker dives) because jarrett of walter meego opened and they're my fave chicago band. interestingly, walter meego also opened for cut copy when they came thru and they will be playing again in a few days. i feel like a goddamn street teamer but they are worth the popularity they're gaining.

um, bald eagle (if you're reading this) it's too bad you weren't after the show 'cuz your set was really fun and more people needed to dance.

i just crawled out of bed...

p.s. yellow it's funny you say james murphy... i usually describe the band to friends as 'james murphy without a cold' and ants in their pants. XLR8R had a good article attempting to describe 'em. saying it must confuse the hell out of cd-sticker blurb writers.

I thought the first album was pretty solid, but nothing mindblowing.

How does the second one measure up?

It's "on a whole other level" as the kids say. Great album. It's a definite purchase for me when it (finally) comes out.

Cool, thanks. I'll have to check it out.

So Cut Copy were better than Hot Chip last night at Subt? I'm now regretting not seeing the Cut Copy show. Anyways, Hot Chip really brought it, especially for a Monday night! Highly recommended live if you like this sound. If this was only on the weekend!
Some Girl
you'll have your chance again. yeah, god i forgot it was a monday night. a friday would have been crazy.

'arrest yourself' is def my pick. don't ask me to explain but it sounds like a funky detective song. if this picture were a song.

IPB Image
pst, look at all of these are great.

QUOTE(yancy @ Mar 21 2006, 05:03 PM)

That's my pick for best upbeat song on the album. Something about the combination of that beat, dirty synth, and near-falsetto "arrest yourself" in the chorus... so fine, so fine.

"Look After Me" is my fave despite being not at all representative of the album. Really hits the spot, considering my current love affair with '70s soft rock. I could listen to that song all day.

interesting pick. i must say that i go back and forth between no fit state (not upbeat...but i love the guitar in this tune and the supporting thick as f*ck synth) and just like we (breakdown).....for the layering and how it all fits together.
jaymc
Yeah, Cut Copy did move the crowd a bit more, I thought.

But really great show nonetheless. Even the songs that aren't normally dance explosions felt really rhythmic and tight. Good to see you again, SomeGirl.
MadroXXX
Sounds like they were awesome live, I'll probably catch them at Lollapalooza.

Just Like We (Breakdown) is my fave.

new album: the warning

ah, brilliant work love.

i was rappin with this chick at the show about how much more fun it would have been if it was on a weekend and not a bloody monday night. after talking a little more she told me she heard about the show from the Reader. i said i prefered Time Out and she said she'd never heard of it. weak.

does anyone know the name of the artist/song that the dj's before were spinning that had the one vocal hook: " 'cause we, are, your friends / you'll, never be alone again, c'mon!"? i just heard it again on the Zane Lowe show and i need to have it now.

that solid groove remix that sg posted earlier (i belive it was tastefully labled as a 'panty wetter') is the tops but has anyone heard this?
Just Like We (Breakdown) - DFA Remix
i just picked it up used at Reckless last weekend. discogs says it's limited to 1,000, that means y'all are suckas.

missed it last night being a Monday and all. sad.gif

love the warning.

curious to see how they'll sound at Lolla - holla.

What is the correct tracklisting? I just opened up the RAR and there are two #1's and no #11... wondering which is which. Thanks.

i still have the 'tarded rip that went around. i'm pretty sure 'over and over' is the title track but don't hold me to it.

for those who don't believe in hot chip live: listen to 'no fit state'

Oh shit. That makes 3 must-buys for me coming out today alone. And with other new releases I've desperately been wanting over the past couple weeks, that's about $100 I could very easily spend. It's dangerous.

I shouldn't have alerted you to the possible conflict until you had tickets and then taken them off your hands as a favor. In fact, let's just forget this whole conversation took place.

I saw signs for this around Wicker Park. I was considering it even though it is a school night and mom and dad say I need to be in bed by ten.

Yeah, Pitchfork wrote that one up, I think. Some of the "Over and Over" mixes are little much, but that's a really good one. "A Glue Too Thick" is also worth more than one listen.
