Foo Fighters Blast McCain Use Of 'My Hero'

By Jonathan Cohen, Billboard

The Foo Fighters have blasted the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain for using the band's song "My Hero" at rallies without its permission.

Previously, Jackson Browne filed suit against the McCain campaign for using his song "Running on Empty" without consent.

"It's frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property," the band says in a statement. "The saddest thing about this is that 'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song."

Yes. This song should only be used to celebrate lionized heroin addicts.

Do you think republicans just know that they'll virtually never be able to obtain permission from any artist (aside from Country artists), and say "fuck it" until they get a cease and desist letter?

Maybe they only play it when Cindy McCain walks out.

they have to know. but they don't need permission to play these short excerpts, so they continue to do so until they receive a letter. and they can't even bank on all country artists either. i mean, tim mcgraw is a democrat and enough other country artists are at least somewhat vocal about not being republicans.

Toby Keith is a Democrat.

I'm wondering why Jackson Browne didn't just issue a press release saying that he approved of McCain using Running on Empty and explaining why he thought that was a perfect song choice for the McCain campaign. Seems he would have gotten the intended result, but without the douchebaggery of resulting to a lawsuit.

It isn't as if people getting interviewed during exit polls ever say, "Screw that MCCain guy - he used the Foo Fighters without prior consent!"

So, yeah, of course they do. The story never makes them look bad; their guys usually get elected. Win win.

Wow - I guess he can't sell Ford trucks in a bad economy AND with universal knowledge that he's a Democrat!
