just remember- when you finally move and get all settled in and the girlfriend dumps you unexpectedly, you'll always have a home back here in Chicago. You'll just have to find it first.
held
Are you driving our today cause it looks like the roads are gonna be a bitch.
Some Girl
but seriously, take care. seems stressful before the move but ultimately what you are doing is really exciting. and you know that.

come back and visit a lot and let us know when you do.

There was a family/friends party on St. Pat's day. I got loaded, of course. SOMB would have been weirded out.

Barely -- a bit of a problem.

I have it on good authority that Ryan isn't moving. He's joining Osama Bin Laden in the secret bunker outside of Mizzoulah.

(Now if that doesn't get the Dept of Homeland Security sniffing around the SOMB, nuttin' will.)

Why Ryan? Why?????
Uncle Remus
aw fuck. I never even got to meet you. Damn.

Pack local Chicago comfort foods, you're not going to find Dog-n-Suds or Berghoff Root Beer, you won't find Poppy Seed Hot Dog Buns, Italian Beef, Pizza cut into tiny squares, etc.

On the plus side, you can go to Casa Bonita!

That's not strictly true. You will be able to find a Vienna Beef dog, poppy seed buns, nukular green relish, sport peppers, etc. in Boulder in the summertime. There's a guy who has a push cart on the Pearl St. Mall. He's a northsider who retired to Boulder years ago. Makes a decent living selling dogs to the transplants.

That's good, but no Dog-n-Suds Root Beer, or Berghoff, of Beef Sammich, or Leinenkugel Beer, or White Castles (except frozen)...

Berghoff not so good. Beef sammiches missing is a crime. There are a sqidjillion microbrews-- Leinies is awful.

I won't even go into the gastrointestinal pyrotechnics that make up White Castles. However, there are some amazing mexican joints in southern Colorado.

Ryan, hopefully you'll be posting as much as ever, and to somebody like me who's already from outta town, things wont' seem any different. The only difference for you is that it'll be a longer drive to those poker parties.

Berhoff Root Beer is great, their regular beer isn't. Leinenkugel makes some good beers: check out their Big Butt Double Bock, it's great, their Black Lager (I forget what it's called), and their Oktoberfest is decent.

And I repeat: Check out Casa Bonita, not for the food but for the spectacle. Check out some of the little neighborhood Mom-&-Pop type places for good Mexican. And Rolled Tacos/Taquitos are the Sliders of Mexican food.

freddie speaks the truth, casa bonita it up one night. eric cartman loves it, you should too.

i always forget to pack belts, and then i have to buy new ones. so remember your belts.

...although, remember how Ace would always claim he was leaving, and he'd talk about it for 6 weeks or longer, and then he would claim he was posting from a bunker in an undisclosed location while one of his fellow soliders was either going AWOL or throwing a grenade into one of our own tents? Ryan, this move of yours has some eerie similarities to Ace's moves.

When you do go to some rockies games try and teach those coloradoans how to cheer at baseball games. you'd think those people were watching the opera they way they scream & shout.

The time will come when you'll be called upon Brett. It may be tonight, it may be tomorrow, it may be years from now at 3:00 am while you're at your most vulnerable. Or if you make it down to Roo this year, we could just find a show to grab a beer together at.

April 1st Denver, CO
A Tiki Oasis 6 pre-party here in Colorado.

IPB Image

We here in Denver are patiently waiting for the new Tiki Boyd's to open before I can start up the Night of Tiki slideshows again. However, that does not mean we can't still have a tiki function. So it is with pleasure that I announce the first 'Tiki on the Town' event, sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Tiki Newsletter.

Saturday, April 1. Tiki drinks and pupus at the Twin Dragon Restaurant and Lounge (3021 South Broadway in Englewood). The Twin Dragon is a well established chinese restaurant with FANTASTIC food. The also serve great flaming pupu platters. Speaking of flaming, they serve a flaming volcano bowl, along with several other tiki drinks in various tiki mugs (skull mugs, monkeys, buddas, scorpion bowls, etc.). Meet at the Dragon at 7:00 pm for fun, food and drinks.

Then head over to the Skylark Lounge (140 South Broadway, just north of Alameda) to hear The Beloved Invaders. These guys are a Boulder based instrumental surf band. You will hear Miserlou (Pulp Fiction), Hawaii 5-0, James Bond theme, Pipeline and other surf classics. These guys really play great music.

Hope to see you at the Dragon and/or the Skylark on Saturday April 1st in your best tiki attire. Drop me a note if you plan on attending so I have a rough idea how many may show up.

The Boyd of the mentioned Tiki Boyd's is Boyd Rice, the Denver Underground Industrial musician, famous for his version of "Quiet Village Idiot."
ryan
Well yes I will Freddie, and I've always been curious about this Tiki stuff you're going on about. I might head over to this if I'm all settled in by then.

Bye Ryan.

I never got the chance to meet you, but I will still miss the thought that if I was ever anywhere, I could possibly run into you, even though I didn't know what you looked like or who you were.

Shit, I might have bumped into you before on the El or something and been like "dude, I like your shirt alot...that's a pretty bitching shirt" or something. Now I am getting teary eyed....

ryan
Thanks guys.

I just changed my mailing address through the USPS website. I didn't think it could be so easy.

Good bye and good luck, bro! As fellow Frankforter's we were so close, yet so far away. I can't blame you for moving out of midwestern territory, though. I'm sure all will go well and according to plan, in addition to many welcomed surprises.

Thanks again guys.

After a ridiculous day of wedging, sighing, and spitting a blue flame, my car is packed to the point of being laughable and I'm going to hit the sack for a few hours. Like I may have mentioned, the lady is ending a trip here in Chicago and will be riding out with me. Hopefully she'll be here shortly. If all goes according to plan, we'll be on the road by 5:00 am or so.
