Reflections Eternal : Revolutions Per Minute is definitely up there. (I thought RE:Union was 2009?)

Big Boi of course (and the Big Boi mixtape), havent checked out Curren$y, d-ling now.

Not sure what Genre Chromeo or Prince fit, but def dig both of their new albums, Business Casual and 20ten.

Still ANXIOUSLY awaiting Lupe and Jack Splash, but i'm imagining both are shelved to 2011.

is there any better producer than ski beatz right now? this song is great, blunted out, but not typical. def a slight departure for ski and for rap in general.

i made a list maybe a page back. recovery has dropped in my estimation, but it would still probably make my top ten for the time being. also, bump pilot talk up, plus george kush da button, and i'm trying to think what else. das racist's album was pretty great. and drake has grown on me considerably, though that's not straight up rap.

basically just this song:

what are yours at the moment? any changes from the list you posted last month?
Tongue-Tied
so whats sombs opinion on "album of the year" - black milk?

I love Popular Demand and Tronic....so I was soooo hyped for this. It's taken me a while to warm up to it fully, but it is yet another solid release from Detroit's best producer (and I must say Detroit is the best in the game right now) with some truly tremendous songs. I love "Black and Brown" which features one of my favorites from Detroit, Danny Brown spitting out a great verse based on his simile style that he does so easy and always sounds hungry as fuck on the mic. Overall, it's great, I need more listens before I compare with the rest of his releases, but I'm impressed and can't wait to see where he goes from here.

and god dammit, produce a full album for Elzhi already. jeez. detroit's best producer and mc need to get together asap. for real.

I need to come here to post more often. I will try to do that.

edit: i almost forgot to mention the absolutely hillarious phone call he puts at the end of "Black and Brown" funniest shit I have heard in music in a long time. A guy leaving Black Milk a message just TROLLING the fuck out of him...making fun of his album title and everything...so many great lines....

"i'll give him album of the minute, yaknowhatimsayin,....i got hyped for a quick minute..you talking about mother fucking... january, february, march, april, may, june, july, august, september...november, oct...i mean ahhh shit, i un fucked up, i dont even know my months...i just want to apply for a passport and hope that i get it just to go over seas just to boo this nigga man!"

Nah. I'm still voting Big Boi, Curren$y, Black Milk, Smoke DZA, Big KRIT. Actually saw Curren$y, Big KRIT, and Smoke DZA last night in Bloomington. Great show. Curren$y's newest, Michael Knight, is the shit. Very excited for Pilot Talk 2. Kanye's GOOD Fridays as a collective might be my favorite, definitely topping some singles lists. The new Pimp C is worth listening to, but it jumps around a bunch. The flow seems off, probably because it was posthumous. The new album by Kno might be a winner, I need to give it another listen. 24 Karate School and the Nesby Phips Phipstape is really good as well. Blu Records, DD172, Dame Dash's label, all that is good stuff. STALLEY is decent. I've also been digging the Freddie Gibbs mixtape. That's great. Davinci, Pill, Elzhi, I've been enjoying lately as well. The list never ends. That Black and Yellow song is a winner, by the way. I wish I could enjoy more Wiz, but only a few of his songs do it for me.

One time for your mind.

did you listen to kush and oj? it's not perfect by any means, but has some of my favorite songs of his on it. the kid frankie is an awesome, awesome track. lots to match it there too. but yeah, michael knight is the shit.

but i'm going to the curren$y/krit/dza show in pittsburgh tomorrow. is there anything i should expect or is it best just to go in fresh?

Yeah, expect DZA to go on at about midnight, and Curren$y to perform around 1:30. Curren$y is the most enjoyable, but KRIT is wonderful as well. DZA is just a little too stoned, didn't do much for me. But whether your show says it starts at 8 or 9, you will hear poor hip-hop amateurs until midnight.

ours starts at ten, which doesn't bode well for me getting sleep tonight. plus i'm out of weed so i can't roll up a blunt to bring with me. did mac miller perform at your show? was he one of those poor amateurs? i enjoy some of his shit, but he's not that good on record. i like him mostly because him and wiz went to my high school.

Mac is okay. Our show started at 9 and Mac came out at midnight. He was decent.

the jneiro jarel i was so hyped for was solid but nothing special.

i didnt listen so much to the black milk. the first single was so great but i already expected the album to not keep the niveau so high. i'm a little dissapointed with bm because know he has the ability to drop classic albums but there is always some flaws in them. overall its a good lp with some bangers but still it could be better.

nocando's jimmy the lock and big boi fight for the top. freeway and currensy are following. nottz and black milk are in the competition for best producer's lp. wiz kalifah beats nas & damian. performance before reputation.
so thats my eoy list so far...
kanye leaked but i didnt find time to check it out properly yet!

really looking forward to that gangrene lp. ep is nice but i expect the lp to show their true potential!

i owe a few spins to chanes. dude is represented by dj house shoes!!!

anybody check out the new g-side record?

easily rotating through my favorite/most played in the early third of this year. Block Beattaz are some of the best at basically my favorite style of rap beat: highly melodic/hooky samples and hard-hitting drum sounds. they went a little earthier with the palate while still retaining the spacey elements of their earlier shit. lyrically, i love the way G-Side set this epic tone to simple themes of the daily routine. it captures how i feel about life a lot - like a character in my own movie - in the way that the best street-wise rappers do. plus they sound dope and are generally fun as fuck to listen to.

i just tried to come up with a 'best tracks' list but there's actually way too many. my personal favorite are "Came Up" and "Nat Geo", but "Y U Mad", "I'm Sorry", "Inner Circle", "Jones", "I Am", "No Radio" and "Moneyintheskyii" are all fantastic as well as the rest of the tracks are very good.

he went to my high school. good dude. great live show, if you have a chance to see him.

terrible lyricist, though. just good times, in any event.

Hoping to update my iPod with some enjoyable hip hop recent releases (i.e. released in the last five years). Some time ago (on that OTHER Board), Waylon opined derisively that the only hip hop I listen to must be the Beastie Boys. While that's cutting my familiarity with the genre a little short, it's true that I'm a dabbler and dilletante. And, Deej would doubtless sneer, hopelessly white boy and predictable in my hip hop tastes (Native Tongues, backpacker, J Dilla, Mr. Lif, early Outkast, Blackalicious, Souls of Mischief, Little Brother, Jurassic 5, Lifesavas, Prefuse 73, Goodie Mob, Ludacris, etc). Nonetheless, I enjoy well DJ'd and funky hip hop with good flow and lyrics.

All suggestions welcomed.

Big K.R.I.T., Shabazz Palaces (I'm not quite with the hype on his new album, but the first two EPs were stellar), and if you didn't get on it last year, Big Boi. Those are the first things that come to mind, anyway.

stephen thomas erlewine
definitely krit, also stalley, curren$y and action bronson. less recent stuff you should check out, rick ross (teflon don still knocks), yelawolf, fashawn and if you aren't familiar yet, jay electronica.

if you want more recommendations, viv, i'd be happy to share them.

It's a great album. Maybe a couple clunkers, but even they're growing on me. Punjabi Song blasting in my car all day.

So I totally slept on XXX by Danny Brown last year, the beats on it are insane, we played it prior to DJ Yoda last night at the pre-lash and it sounded awesome. Shame it never made our AOY list.

On a rap related sidenote, was disappointed by the lack of hip hop Yoda played last night, he mainly stuck to drum and bass with a smattering of dubstep and of course random shit like the super mario theme and a heavy brostep remix of 'Rock Around The Clock'. So maybe a few too many jock jams but it was good.
