Just put on Evil Jeanius for the first time. Goddamn. Sonic, I'm not sure I buy into all your hyperbole but this is a damn great record. Amazing production.

Haha, I talked this up pretty big, didn't I? To be honest, though, I have yet to hear a negative review about this record. Some may not agree that it is as great as I proclaimed, but everyone agrees it is pretty enjoyable.

Last night, I let my buddy borrow my car and I had a mix in the cd player with "Threats" as track two (track one was "Sabali"). I get a text from him saying, "Track two is a classic." He told me later that during the two hour car ride, he listened to "Threats" for about half of the trip. Good shit.

heard still dre on the radio on the way home tonight. that is one hell of a song and 2001 is one hell of an album. i'm still right though.

I've had Forgot About Dre stuck in my head for the last few days. I haven't even heard the song in years, but one of those verses keeps looping ad infinitum through my brain. Such a sick verse too:

Y'all know me, still the same O.G., but I been low key
Hated on by most these niggaz wit no cheese, no deals and no G's
No wheels and no keys, no boats no snowmobiles, and no ski's
Mad at me cause I can finally afford to provide my family with groceries
Got a crib wit a studio and it's all full of tracks
to add to the wall full of plaques
Hangin up in the office in back of my house like trophies
Did y'all think I'ma let my dough freeze? Ho please
You better bow down on both knees
Who you think taught you to smoke trees?
Who you think brought you the oldies?
Eazy-E's, Ice Cube's, and D.O.C's
The Snoop D-O-double-G's
and the group that said mother-"Fuck Tha Police"
Gave you tape full of dope beats
to bump when you stroll through in your hood
And when your album sales wasn't doin too good
who's the Doctor they told you to go see?
Y'all better listen up closely
All you niggaz that said that I turned pop, or The Firm flopped
Y'all are the reason that Dre ain't gettin no sleep
so FUCK Y'ALL, all of y'all; if y'all don't like me, BLOW ME!
Y'all are gonna keep fuckin around wit me
then turn me back to the old me

I have literally just spent the last half hour attempting to list 2001 in favorite-numerical order and I have come to a conclusion - it's impossible.

There's absolutely no fuckin' way I could eve choose any song over any other. Sorry Chrono, but doing this with albums is A LOT easier than by-track.

You are weak and feeble.

The production on 'Threats' is dope.

'Even on your best day' is still my shit.
SonicAlligator
You fools hear about this shit yet? I can't wait for this one to release/leak. The tracklisting isn't even fair.

N.A.S.A. baby. Attempting something wild.

I may be a hypocritical asshole who ripped apart kids on the Animal Collective thread for saying that will be the album of 2009, but if this album lives up to that epic tracklisting, I don't know. This would HAVE to be the album of the year, right?

I need to find some more shit by these guys. Some called "Gifted" with Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li.

Here's the song "Spacious Thoughts" with Tom Waits and Kool Keith. Yes.

^ive read about that album like 20 times and i still don't understand just how the fuck that all happened. either way, theres pretty much no artist on there that i don't like, so color me very intrigued.
Ned
^wha? zuh?
Color me baffled. I really want to hear that now.
Ned
Very odd song that Waits/Keith pairing...
Predictably, it made me think of Buck 65 a bit. But, uh... weirder. And less Canadian.
SonicAlligator
Yeah, that album is going to be wild. The Buck 65 comparison was pretty funny. I haven't listened to him in years.

There's a new Evidence beat tape floating around the internet, anyone listen to it yet? Supposed to be pretty good, I'll check it out later tonight or tomorrow.

For now, I'm listening to DJ Benzi's new mixtape.
Tongue-Tied
yeah, that is looking real nice. Can't wait for a full leak.

Finally checked out that BSBD/Jean Grae album, and sweet jesus...shits absolute fire.
"Away with Me" is straight up the best song ive heard this yr. Similar chillout vibe to somethin like Burials "Dog Shelter".
If the rest of the album can hold up, ive got a #1 contender.

Niiiiiiice, always glad to hear good things about this album. I have listened to it at least once a day for the past week or so. "Threats" normally gets about 5-10 plays a day. The madness won't end and I'm glad.

still a love song is kicking my ass these days. i made a mix last night, before i got together with an ex to get stoned and talk about life shit, which looked like this:

1. electric renaissance - b&s
2. still a love song - bsbd and jean grae
3. heart of chambers - beach house
4. heaven at nite - kid cudi
5. ce n'est pas bon - amadou et mariam
6. many moons - janelle monae
7. spaceman - killers

i can type out the rest of this, but it went over real well. not that it's hard to please two lifelong substance abuse addicts. anyhow, i've been pimping evil jeanius out at every possible moment.

Everyone should really check this shit out.

Jay-Z - Jockin' Jay-Z (Travis Barker Remix)

Barker's first remix since the crash.

Anyone check out that Barker remix?

Also, has anyone listened to this album? It's pretty sick. Whole thing is mixed and remixed by Benzi and Diplo.

I think there was originally a picture of the Dalek album and Vamos was comparing it to BOC, MBV, and Nas.
SonicAlligator
Tha Carter III could have been something really great. A majority of the original songs leaked, so Weezy decided to just start over and make a new album. Sure, some people think it already is a classic, but it could have been so much better. If he combined the best tracks from Tha Carter III Sessions with the shit from the actual album, the dude would have had a masterpiece. Just think if songs like this were on the album:

FTR, that album is absolutely amazing. I even think it's the best Dalek release, better than Absence even.

Which one?

The latest one that was posted in this thread, The New Deal.

The Charles Hamilton comment was prompted by "Brooklyn Girls" and "We Major Freestyle" from the mixtape. Also, Brother Ali's verse on "2nd Time Around" is great.

Danny Browns feat on Elzhis track "Fire Rmx" was so fire i had to check out his solo stuff, and i dug up Hot Soup, one of the best rap albums ive heard this year. Seriously, shits really good. Love his voice and the whole retro vibe, even tho as a lyricist he ranges from good to serviceable.

anyone else heard this?

Oh nice. Yeah that's a good one. Benzi does a great job of mixing. Wouldn't mind seeing him doing a live set again. The New Dead is the shit. Also, about Brother Ali, I just can't get into him. I don't know why. Just not my style. I respect him because he's a pretty witty lyricist, but not a big fan.

The new beat tape from Los Angeles-based producer Dert. TALK STRANGE features 17 tracks sampling original tunes and remixes by the legendary Icelandic singer Bjork. Just like the Dert Floyd: Westside of the Moon project, TALK STRANGE takes artist-themed beat tapes to another level providing amazing instrumentals to practice your rhymes over or just sit back and enjoy.
