sonic,

can u possibly like all those albums? i dont see how

anyway,

rank them from best to worst for me, & draw little lines where they deviate from "A"s to "Bs" to "Cs" to "Ds" (no +'s or -'s)
SonicAlligator
Maaaaan, Currensy can spit. I love all of his verses on the Young Money Volume 1 mixtape. Did he stray away from Lil' Wayne or what happened with that? I feel like he is no longer linked with him.

And yeah Boobs, I like all of those albums haha. Some more than others, for sure. But I would recommend those to people. I don't feel like making a list for those right now, but why the perplexity? You think some of those albums are garbage? Which ones?

Is everyone treating P.O.S. as a 2008 album, or have you all just forgotten about it?

Oh shit, forgot bout this one! i was listing names by memory and this one slipped by. but yeah, Never Better will be up there for sure. "Purexed" and "Savion Glover" are great.

Also forgot bout that Curren$y album, but not sure if it can hang with the years best. maybe it can i dunno, theres just a few too many duds for me to overlook at the moment. even still, i don't think i'll hear a better track this year than this:

^^ Thats the sound of bliss right there.

he was on Young Money for years, but even after "Where the Cash At?" he still couldn't get him to release their album, so he decided to try and build the buzz on his own.
SonicAlligator
Holy shit this is good. Just released today for free off of their website. Get this NOW.

what dud verses does bun have this year

"Free Lunch" from the Curren$y album, and Drake's "Uptown" are the main ones I can think of. 08 also had some lackluster Bun B verses. his flow sounds completely different and strange now and it seems clear he's not putting much effort into anything anymore.
Insane
The ones Chrono said, but he also had a really uninspired "Kinda Like A Big Deal" remix verse that was the first reference to swine flu and a completely boring one at that.

Also, I like Sonic's list. I agree with the placement of all the albums I've heard up there. I think So Far Gone could be higher. Sure the music wasn't new except for "Fear" but it's still great music.
SonicAlligator
Oops, didn't mean to have Skyzoo's album in the A range. Should have been in the B's. I'm appreciating it more with every listen, though.

how fucking great is this? getting excited for the casket.

Out of curiosity, Why does HudMo get so much attention around these parts - I don't see the same kind of interest in Teebs, Nosaj Thing, FlyLo, Samiyam, Rustie, Joker, Dorian Concept, Nocturnal, Cinnaman, Exile, Dr Who Dat?, Onra, Fulgeance, Debruit, Mono/Poly, Zomby, Mike Slott, Paul White, Bullion, DJ Maxximus, Made Up Sound, Herrmutt Lobby, Eskmo, Floating Points, Ras G, Lukid, Aardvark etc??

I’m not hating. Beat making is a real passion of mine and I just find it odd that we have this amazing spectrum of artists from the dirty digital experimentations of grime dudes like Terror Danjah through to analog funkopations of Dam and a DayGlo rainbow in-between but HudMo is the name I consistently see popping up in internet "Hip Hop" circles. Is it the way he is being marketed by Warp? Do other dudes just not get the same exposure? It’s like he's set up a cartel with indie-rap bloggers. Dude is very talented but there are so many other talented dudes making exciting electronic beat music right now.

Cheers for the link though Dwada, I really liked it on first listen - never really felt his solo stuff as much as the Heralds of Change releases but this is fun.

I was excited for Casket, until tracks started to leak and each sucked more than the last. now i'm just holding on to the hope that the rest isnt as bad.

And wow, that HudMo is bonkers. i knew it was gonna be wild but Butter really takes it to another level. I agree with dwada that its all over the place, but its kinda doing it for me. for all its hyper absurdity, it all sounds so nice, not to mention unique. i rarely descibe an album like this, but this thing is as joyful as any album ive heard. its like HudMo took aim at every pleasure center possible, and with Butter, hes firing on all cyclinders.

its gonna take awhile to digest for sure, but first impression is its bizarre and wonderful.

I take your point, but a number of those names do get thrown around these parts as well. i'd say FlyLo, Exile, Joker, Ras G and others all are well respected amongst hip-hop heads. also, i'm guessing the hip-hop connection comes from the fact that all of the above artists have worked with rappers, whereas some of the beatmakers you name (Zomby for instance) lean more heavily towards the electronic side. not that the two circles are so far off, but you know..

I'll also take some responsibility for reppin HudMo quite hard itt, but to be fair i found him underacknowledged in the electro thread. I mean, Dam and others are pimped pretty hard there, but Hudson seemed to be brushed aside far too often. in my eyes HudMo is fresh for being a genre-bender, dabbling in hip-hop and funk and glitch. While i may not always wanna sit through a Dam album, i still get shades of it here. Butter is a testament to this diversity, a true clusterfuck of different sounds and influences, and yet he pulls it all together in a way that works. So while i agree that others are doing great things and going unacknowledged, i still say he deserves all of the positive buzz hes getting. The kids got talent.
Bruegs
That's cool. I don’t come in here often so I probably just read some misrepresentative pages. I'll be sure to check back in for earnest discussion of the panoply of 21st Century beatsmiths and lively debate about their relative merits wink.gif

I felt like that HudMo was super spastic and, like many others said, all over the place. Only one listen so far and I enjoy Zoo00OoM or however the hell you spell it.

And Bruegel, I'm not too familiar with a bunch of the artists you have mentioned, but I love all of the ones mentioned that I know. And we praise Flying Lotus pretty heavily (especially Vamos) and Onra is the man and I'm pumped for Exile's album coming out with Fashawn in a few weeks. Also, Ras G and the African Space Program's "Ghetto Sci-Fi" is amazing. I'll have to check out those other artists, as well.

That track with Kanye was ill, especially because it features yet another great Khalil beat. But yeah, every one since has gotten worse. Especially "I'm Good." It's really sad, but I have faith they can pull it together.

About the beatmakers discussion, I don't know many of the artists except Exile. Haven't given a listen to the Hudson Mohawke yet either. Exile's pretty great though. Not always great. Some of his beats are cool in a "wow he made a beat out of that weird-ass sample" but they're not actually pleasing to listen to. No doubt in my mind that his album with Fashawn will be straight fire, though.

The mixtape I've been listening to a lot is the Freddie Gibbs one, midwestgangstaboxcadillacmuzik. It's been gettin a lot of love, even a positive review on Pitchfork. It's vulgar as all hell but in a way that you can tell he's just being himself. Some of the best original beat selection I've heard in awhile on a mixtape, too. "Womb 2 the Tomb" is a great collab with Pill, another one of the most interesting gangsta rappers right now. "County Bounce" is my favorite right now.

Also, any of you guys Playboy Tre at all?

I'm surprised if you like that song you won't like other songs on the mixtape. I think it's quite fantastic, barring a few beats. The beat with the Eurythmics sample over and over again is grating, for example. But Tre's a great rapper and a good hook writer too.

Also, I'm definitely interested in that Curren$y. Is it an official album?

Agree that Tre delivers, but the production is way too spotty. That Eurythmics song you mention is a good ex, its just annoying. Tre deserves better than some canned electro to back him.
