Great work, Paul--once again.

I guess I should listen to Portishead now.

great job, paul.

a few surprises here and there - placements i thought were very high or low for a lot of albums. for instance, i liked that nick cave record, but i never would've thought it'd place where it did.

Great list, but I'm still a little disappointed that my #1 only came in at 124

I like 2 other SOMBs. The rest of you, not so much.

Seems like not nearly enough people heard this record; whenever I play it for friends they at least like it.

Also: awesome work, Paul!

Hmm, placed much higher than Bright Blue Dream. Maybe I should give it a few more listens.

{{{Sunset}}} might have cracked the top 100 if he had only released one album this year

Terrible year for music. Dreadful. Kanye West and Malkmus are the only listenable albums of the year.

I still haven't heard the Malkmus album and the Kanye one didn't do it for me. Much different music opinions.

Have to sift through 20 plus pages of shit to get through the Top 40. Every fiber of my being, you fuking homo.
Chronodiggity
just so you know, if Paul tabs my list, Frightened Rabbit jumps at least 2 or 3 spots.

the only thing i'm truly shocked by on this countdown is that Times New Viking didn't even place. this is 2008 guys, year of classic lo-fi jams and youthful exuberance and teens making music that is better than Los Campesinos!

the bounciness of the Early '80s? the Thor's Hammer of a riff on (My Head)? the absolute blistering facesmash of Come Together?

Times New Viking is The Rolling Stones of our generation.

Cloud Cult 174th? ohmy.gif

Fucking sad thing is..like a week after I submitted my list I discovered this dreamy post-rock/psych-band "Kacica" ( http://myspace.com/kacicajapan ) whose record "Mosaic" I have added to my list and I'd say it would have knocked Cloud Cult out of the top 10. I can't get enough of it..it's brought me to tears a number of times in the last 10 days.

I got 1 of my top 10 in, in Wolf Parade.

also happy to see a couple of other votes for my #1, Apes and Androids smile.gif

great work as always Paul.

I'll have to re-read through this more thoroughly when I have time. Right now I'm in the middle of moving in this sub-zero MN weather tongue.gif

Pretty sure this is a 2009 release and a few of us jumped the gun. I'll be curious to see how this holds up over the course of the year, but right now I'm loving it.

Paul, you are so awesome. I don't know how you do it, but I'm so glad that you do. Whatever they're paying you, it isn't enough. Cheers.

I have some thoughts about this list and its unveiling that I'm having a hard time articulating right now without sounding like a whiny bitch. I'm gonna need a few beers or a few coffees to expound. It's something around the phrase "live and let live." It's doomed to failure and/or whiny bitching.

174 Cloud Cult - Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes) 390 7 1
241 Apes & Androids - Blood Moon 252 3 1
293 Copeland - You Are My Sunshine 193 3 0
378 Chris Wood - Trespasser 125 1 0

I think people probably forgot about Lupe being eligible (The Cool is leagues ahead of TC3 and 808s), and the rest of these are just severely underrated. Chris Wood at 378? Seriously guys? I do it sometimes too, but the amount of bias towards 'cool' bands is just disgusting when Chris Wood ends up at fucking 378.

don't know about the others..aside from Lupe Fiasco I know of..they've mentioned him on the podcast of course. But anyone whose a supporter of Apes and Androids I am happy to see smile.gif..and the Cloud Cult I definitely am surprised to see not in the top 100, not to mention as low as 174. To me, it was a breakthrough record; and I don't recall seeing a bad review about it.

I'm honored to be the quote for The Walkmen's entry. I'm surprised that Caesura didn't place this year... if I remember right Eingya made an appearance its year.

It came out at the wrong time of year.

Eingya picked up steam because a steady buzz grew around it for the most part of the year. Whereas, "Caesura" came out at the end of November and by that time people were busy doing year end lists and not looking for new stuff. Likewise, his ep from last year while good, wasn't brilliant and maybe some people stopped caring.

I actually think "Caesura" is the superior album now. I probably would have voted it #2, instead of #4.
