Hahaha the highest any album I voted for placed was Grouper at #90.
Third is alright, though, I guess.
Someday maybe I can be

Maybe he was laughing at himself for being so out of the board's kilter.
Bingo. I don't come here that often, so I guess that makes sense.

I have tried and tried and tried, multiple times, to see the quality in Lil' Wayne. I can't. I'm sorry. I just can't.

Why all the hate on Fleet Foxes though? What exactly is wrong with a bit of folk rock harmony? Truly beautiful imo. The album of '08.

Do you dislike rap in general or do you think his rhymes/delivery/etc. are poor?

I don't think most of it is hate. Most of us here liked the album, just not
that much; not
album of '08 much. I think the most common argument is that this album is too bland/insignificant/unoriginal to be the best album of the year. I'd say the chances that people will be talking about this album in 10 years are slim.

I guess I'm not the biggest fan of rap in general. Although, having said that, I quite enjoy Kanye, a bit of Lupe never goes astray and even if Dizzee Rascal is strictly "grime", he's cool too.

OK, fair enough...although I would say there's probably no more of a chance of
Third being talked about in ten years...nowhere near as good as "Dummy" in my view. But, each to their own

The hate for Fleet Foxes is just part of indie snobbery. If something becomes too popular, or perhaps too much buzz, then it must be bad. The other camp are those that think it smells of pachouli when they prefer the smell of black leather.

Don't think that's true at all, most of the dissent has been in line with what surlacarte has said. Not hate, just a general "album of the year, really?" reaction.

It is funny, isn't it...poor Fleet Foxes, too indie for those that listen to Beyonce and Kid Rock, and too popular and mainstream for those that listen to...well, things that most of us haven't even heard before.

Holy god... I just spent the last forever of my life reading every page of this thread.
First off, Paul: well done and thank you.
Second, this is a really good list. There's quite a few I really liked (7 of my top 10 made the SOMB top 100) and some I need to revisit/check out.
Third, looking forward to next year.
