On a whim, I just signed up for audioscrobbler. I already uploaded one of my "albums" and am enjoying the music as a nice break from the commercials/sameness of WXRT and Yahoo Launch.

Anyone out there currently in it? Share with me your tips and tricks, introduce me to your groups, be my "Friend", tell me how the hell to use this stuff. Thanks.

HA! I just figured out how to use that thing this week. My friends have been bugging me to set it up for a while, and I just figured it out. HOw bout that. Spring break is good for something!

Mine's in my signature -- My friends and I have a group where we bitch about each other's playlists influencing the Group Radio function. Good times.

Sucky. My company's intranet database--which I need to use for about 96% of my day-- shuts the damn player off when I click on it. sad.gif mad.gif

Guess it's Yahoo during database time...last.fm during non-database time

Are any of using plug-ins to pull playcounts off your iPods? I got audioPod to work, but it's kinda clunky; you gotta launch the app everytime and basically do it manually. Is there an easier way? I don't listen to music on my computer, which is why the first time I tried Audioscrobbler it didn't do much for me. But now that you can get stats of your iPod, it's a different story...

Sorry to sound paranoid, but how do we know the RIAA isn't watching this? I had the plugin in for a few days, but removed it. It seems fun and everything, but I dunno...

So what if they are? They know what kind of music you like, but they don't have your IP address, or any information regarding how you got the music. For all they know you own all the albums/songs that you play.

Diesel's been listening to the new Cam'ron album before its street date.

But Last FM does, because I'm transmitting track info to them in real time. Subpoenas anyone?

And while I'm not listening to the Cam'ron album, there are OTHER leaks I COULD be listening to and loading onto Last FM's servers, hence setting off some red flags. Again, its a fun idea and everything, but what purpose does it really serve other than to chart what large groups of people or individuals are listening to?

I don't understand. What are you afraid of?

It's not illegal to play music on your computer.

I think he's talking about playing leaks on your computer, and the RIAA seeing that you're playing an album before it's release date.

Hip-hop gets really messed up because people will tag the same song a dozen different ways. For example:

Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly (remix) featuring Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, and Project Pat
Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly remix feat. Trick Daddy Slim Thug Project Pat
Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly FT. Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, & Project Pat (remix)
Three Six Mafia FT. Trick Daddy, Slim Thug & Project Pat - Stay Fly Remix
Three Six Mafia (featuring Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, & Project Pat - Stay Fly (remix)
Three Six Mafia ft Trick Daddy, Slim Thug & Project Pat - Stay Fly (Remix)
Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly FT. Trick Daddy, Slim Thug and Project Pat (remix)
Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly (remix) (feat. Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, and Project Pat)
Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly (remix) (ft. Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, and Project Pat)
Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly (remix) (FT Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, and Project Pat)
Three Six Mafia - Stay Fly (featuring Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, & Project Pat) (Remix)

etc.

Those are all the same song, just labeled differently by different people. So Last.fm will almost always count them as different tracks. On the other hand, there's one and only one way for a song like this to be labeled:

Coldplay - Talk

It's a troubled system.

Is there someway to make this track ipod plays?
Seems kinda inaccurate since most people don't listen to music on their computer.

Nope, only tracks media players on your comp that support the plug-in.

Yeah, it's not an accurate gauge for all people, but the idea is you can at least keep track of what you do listen to on a computer, and for people like me that almost soley use their PC to play music it's a pretty good way to keep track of listening habits.

Yes, you can track iPod plays. There are several plug-ins. I use this one:

It should be somewhere there @ the audioscrobbler/whatever website--they make available all the plug-ins extant.

I was a member of the sound opinions group about a year ago, but dropped it because our tastes are mutually exclusive.

So? Rejoin it and help shake up the boring predictablity that the somb group chart has succumbed to.
