i'm looking for a song for a slideshow. the slideshow will be shown at an event for a good cause and will feature inspirational people doing inspirational things (vague on purpose, sorry). the song should be upbeat with a generally positive theme without being too sugary. the crowd will be somewhat younger (average age of about 30).

so far, i'm thinking My Morning Jacket Look At You or The Flaming Lips Do You Realize??, but I'm not dead set on either one. the song should be in the 3 to 4 minute range.

thanks for your help

'Sworn and Broken' by Screaming Trees.

You can't go wrong with Do You Realize for a slideshow. Sounds like a charity type of event:

Settled Down Like Rain - The Jayhawks (starts off with "you came and you gave without taking"(very suitable)

The pacing is excellent for a slideshow as well.

Mr. Pancake
King Missile - Take Stuff from Work

Before reading about the general theme of your presentation, I was going to suggest Commando by the Ramones.
I'm still going to suggest it, as that should be the soundtrack to everything.

Want inspirational though, just stick with some Stan Bush. Is Justin Hawkins' British Whale project still going? If so, that dude shits out inspirational positivity by the barrelful.

For real? Bright Side of the Road by Van Morrison.

I'm half joking with this but also half sincere...

Joe Esposito - You're the Best Around

It was used at the end of Karate Kid. I was a best man some years ago for a huge wedding and dropped this during a quick slideshow and for those in the know, they found it to be funny, but also inspiring. Maybe you could give it a whirl?

I'm dying to use these in a slideshow but go ahead, you have my permission. Besides being fun songs, the sequence and production makes for a perfect flow from one song to the next (that you won't get from these vids). If it's just a short presentation, go w/ #3, "Drop."

1. "Point of View Point"

2. "Smoke"

3. "Drop"

4. "Another View Point"

A lot of inspirational sports reels are backed with Van Halen's "Right Now" and Creed's "Higher." Hey man, don't shoot the messenger.
Elemeno P.T.
I used "I Believe I Can Change My World" by Francis Dunnery for a similar event and it went over very well. You can find it on Itunes.
Slackmo
I like the call on "Settled Down Like Rain."

I'd suggest Ben Lee's "All in This Together" or anything from that Malajube record from a couple years back.
surlacarte
Rilo Kiley - With Arms Outstretched
Angrimorfee
Wish You Were Here by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

or for a more active, upbeat tone,
Run Like Hell also by the RPO. I actually suggested this to my uncle when he needed to make a slideshow for his corporate meeting and he said it worked like a charm.
dice
not 'i believe i can fly'

'get what you give'?

maybe there's a portion of 'everyday people' that would suit your purpose
arkin
Fleetwood Mac "Don't Stop"

...too Clinton era?

thanks dudes. i think i'm going to go with Do You Realize??

the event is for a group home for people with disabilities and themes in that song hit right home. plus it will play well to a younger crowd.

Oh heavenly day, all the clouds blew away
Got no trouble today with anyone
The smile on your face I live only to see
It's enough for me, baby, it's enough for me
Oh, heavenly day, heavenly day, heavenly day

Tomorrow may rain with sorrow
Here's a little time we can borrow
Forget all our troubles in these moments so few
All we've got right now, the only thing that
All we really have to do
Is have ourselves a heavenly day
Lay here and watch the trees sway
Oh, can't see no other way, no way, no way
Heavenly day, heavenly day, heavenly day

No one at my shoulder bringing me fears
Got no clouds up above me bringing me tears
Got nothing to tell you, I've got nothing much to say
Only I'm glad to be here with you
On this heavenly, heavenly, heavenly, heavenly
Heavenly day, all the trouble's gone away
Oh, for a while anyway, for a while anyway
Heavenly day, heavenly day, heavenly day
