Saw a great band, Mirthkon, open for Sleepytime last weekend. They feature a baritone sax and "heavy metal clarinet" and are maybe toward the jazzy end of the continuum. RIYL Zu, Mike Keneally, Andy West/Rama, and, well, SGM.

This ^ is fairly representative of the live show and includes a clip of Eddie Murphy's funniest line from Beverly Hills Cop.

that sounds like it may appeal to some folks, although I'm not sure if I would be one of them, as SGM and stuff like Zu I have never been able to really get into. A bit too avant-garde for me. SGM is rather gothic and I just have failed to remember liking much from their stuff. I happen to go for Unexpect and Akphaezya a bit more.

By the way, this past weekend at the High Voltage Festival in the UK, progressive rock was rather featured as ELP did a reunion gig, Transatlantic was joined by Steve Hackett to perform "The Return of the Giant Hogweed" (a song they did a cover version on the bonus disc of their new album). Marillion, Focus, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heap and Hackett's solo band among others also performed.
