What are the top five bands you haven't seen live that you want to?

Now that I live in a smaller city I don't get to see nearly as many live shows as I wish I could. But, I did get to see my former #1 on this list, Radiohead, on their last tour in Seattle.

Here's mine:
5. Sufjan Stevens
4. The Black Keys
3. The Hold Steady
2. Calexico
1. Bob Dylan

Seen 1-3, sort of listened to 4 while eating @ Coachella. Would like to see Sufjan.

Anyway, do they have to be alive/together/actually performing?

Good question. I should have mentioned that.

Its bands that are still currently performing.

Ok, (excluding bands I'm already planning to see this year):

Echo & the Bunnymen
Bruce Springsteen
Elvis Costello
The Knife
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
The White Stripes

Yes, that's 6. I couldn't choose.

If I can count musicians who are currently touring but not together, then Swan Lake, by a large margin.
Biloxi
Shellac
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Les Savy Fav
Okkervil River
Spiritualized
Soundscape
5?..I could add 20 more probably.

(active)

Andre Matos (Angra/Shaman/Solo material)
Apes and Androids
Oceansize
Bend Sinister
Kiss Kiss

Some Brilliant Bullsh*t
Dylan
The Hold Steady
Springsteen
Van Morrison
Spiritualized

hibster
bands that are still going is much harder to decide

ok - saw low & ladytron for the first time last year, they would have been high up the list
i am kloot, the breeders & the mountain goats are the only ones that have been going for a while that i really need to see, i guess
spiritualized, the wrens or shellac would be good

the rest of the ones i really want to see that i've not yet seen are all fairly new
velocity
Cannibal Corpse
Black Elk
Police
U2
Neil Young--saw him @ the Bridge concert and w/ CSNY but really should try to see him on his own.

[Faith No More, Mr. Bungle]--waiting for their reunions.

I wouldn't have minded seeing the Stones in the 70s but wouldn't go to some bloated showboat production now.

Feeling good about how many of the bands I've seen on these other lists :)

Police

I like em and even I had no desire to watch the old farts stare blankly at each other.

QUOTE (velocity @ Feb 6 2009, 10:14 PM) *
U2

I saw em for Joshua Tree and have had no desire since then.

if they're not all dead yet. Saw FNM per Angel Dust. Had dinner with em too per my buddy's back stage access... on my birthday... good times.

yeah one of those small venue gigs would've been cool.

velocity
Jeez what an awesome birthday ^^.

Know what you mean re: Police & U2--I don't even own any music by them. It's just more of a "I should do it before they stop touring (again)" thing.
Cinnamon P.
Daft Punk
Boards of Canada
My Bloody Valentine
The Dirty Projectors
I'll get back to you on 5.

the breeders

Saw them last year open for The National and Modest Mouse. Was not impressed at all.

U2
Neil Young--saw him @ the Bridge concert and w/ CSNY but really should try to see him on his own.

Saw U2 and was blown away. I also saw CSNY and that's why Neil soul is not on my list, though he's probably somewhere in my top 10.

Prince.

that's it.

Trying to gauge the worth of Neil solo by a CSNY show is like trying to gauge the NBA by a Harlem Globetrotters game.
Saskadelphia
Neil Young (electric) (dropped the ball in 96 and 08...I think I used up all my chances!)
Sonic Youth
Jarvis Cocker
Hold Steady
Goldfrapp
Saskadelphia

I was amazed at how much fun I had at a bloated Stones stadium show.

Joanna Newsom
Leonard Cohen

You'll have a long wait. Patton may have dropped off in the last few years, but he sticks to his principles.
Alright Still
01. Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis ( I probably won't ever have a chance to see Rilo Kiley. sad.gif )
02. She & Him
03. Florence and the Machine
04. Tilly and the Wall
05. Laura Marling

probably least impressed with portishead (was around 98 in bristol)

realise it's probably too late for them now, but seen the muses & pixies & would like to see them - even if just for canonball.

mind you - jarvis cocker isn't a bad shout, but would love a pulp reunion

Please understand that I'm in no way saying that seeing CSNY was like seeing Young solo. I'm just saying that having seen him with the group, there are other bands that move higher on the list for me.

01. Rilo Kiley
04. Tilly and the Wall

Saw them on tour together and it was sublime. They were both very good and Neeley from Tilly even let me buy her a drink (Bacardi & deit) during Rilo's set. It was obvious that she wasn't really into me (can't blame her), but she was super nice and we enjoyed Rilo's set together.
no magnets
basement jaxx
david bowie
doves
kylie minogue
sparks

the only reason i haven't seen doves or david bowie is that i was unemployed last time they played nearby. the night bowie played, i saw sufjan stevens and the delgados for something like 1/3rd what i would've paid for bowie. it was a sacrifice i had to make. and i suppose i just need to do some traveling for the others.

Bands/artists going now, that I haven't seen but want to?

Hmm.

Converge
Prince
Daft Punk
Bon Jovi
Guns N' Roses

At one gig. With Converge headlining.
Sam
1) Daft Punk (winner by a mile);
2) Doves;
3) The White Stripes (this will be easy, tho);
4) Jarvis Cocker (in lieu of a Pulp reunion. If Pulp reunited, they'd be in the top spot tied with Daft Punk.)

. . . and, that's really about all i can think of. Doves should have happened but their last two tours got cancelled in the Twin Cities, and The White Stripes have all recently been on nights when I had conflicts.

Bjork was the #1 on my list for about 12 years, until I went out to Sasquatch a few years ago to solely see her.

absolutely. i have told many people that i'll go to a pulp reunion anywhere. but i was lucky enough to see jarvis last summer. my friend who's not a pulp fan didn't really like him. but his girlfriend and i were going bananas. totally worthwhile, even though he didn't play any pulp songs.

My wife is a huge Bjork fan and had not seen her, so I shelled out serious $$$ (enough so that it covered A FULL YEAR of presents) to see her when she came to the Chicago Theater.

Totally worth it.

I've had others tell me this. Intrigues me enough to want to see them. If only they didn't charge, like, a billion dollars for tickets.
crash
no order

black moth super rainbow
wooden shjips
sonic youth
swervedriver
camp lo
washing machine
Sun Kil Moon/Mark Kozelek
Built to Spill
Tom Waits
Frightened Rabbit
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

In terms of bands I've seen, but never a full set, I really want to see the National. Once opening for R.E.M./Modest Mouse and once at Lolla wasn't enough.
Biloxi
What the hell, here's five more:

Neil Young
Mission of Burma
Tom Waits
Ween
Sonic Youth
wh1tep0ny
1-5
The Smiths
Neutral Milk Hotel
PJ Harvey
Bjork
White Stripes

6-10
Michael Jackson
Prince
Ryan Adams
Eric B and Rakim
George Jones
Paul
I've done a pretty good job at catching most of the people I want to see, so most of these are bands that only play huge shows that I can't justify paying that much for or going by myself to an arena show for.

Paul McCartney
U2
Jay-Z
The White Stripes
Paul Westerberg
Julian
Top Five Bands I Haven't Seen (but really want to)

5. Andrew Bird
4. U2
3. Bob Dylan
2. Flaming Lips
1. Radiohead

I've been lucky enough to see Sonic Youth, Pixies (twice!), Wilco, and White Stripes
nobodies
1. Iron Maiden
2. Prince
3. Dead Kennedys*
4. Municipal Waste
5. Neil Young

* With Jello Biafra, which I guess leads to a question. Am I allowed to pick a group that isn't currently together, but could theoretically reform?

I mean, you just did...

But, my answer would be no. Only bands that are currently active.
Bob Loblaw
Is Neutral Milk Hotel somehow currently active and I've overlooked it?

Easily Fooled
In no particular order:

Animal Collective
The Flaming Lips
M83
Akron/Family
Cat Power (Chan's still one of the sexiest women alive)
demoncleaner
I saw a couple of my long standings in the last few months (Swervedriver and Isis) so this gets more difficult. Swervedriver wouldn't even have counted I guess cause they were defunct before reforming for that last tour.

So anyway:

Daft Punk
The F Lips
Robyn
Metronomy (have tickets)
Mark Lanegan solo (only seen him with QOTSA and other assorted guesting)
faraway
1. Animal Collective
2. Blur
3. TV on the Radio
4. Wolf Parade
5. Daft Punk
