Full Version: Buying a hat

As a certified bandwagon jumper I bought a white sox cap last year. BUT i bought it at the BEGINNING of the season, have family friends who are die-hard sox fans, and - my trump card - I've actually been to more Sox games (price/availability issues) than Cubs games in my life, and never really had a dislike of either team.

That said, my parents were Chicago northsiders when I was born and so I believe like judaism I am via my mother technically a cubs fan (cept I'm not jewish). The other thing about cubs fans - I have a friend who lives near the music box and I've come to loathe wrigleyville and 90% of Cubs fans. Yet I still bear (lol) some loyalty to the boys in blue.

Which team am I riding with. Weigh the options, YOU decide.

No baseball hats. And feel free to cheer for both.

Dude, you're a sox fan. End the guilt trip. Some small-minded jerk is probably going to give you crap about it by playing the real fan card. Know it's a load of bullshit, the sort of consolation needed by small, sad people.

Also, live like a king and beef up your Latino credentials by picking up a throwback Luis Aparicio jersey. Chavez, Ozzie, this jersey. Venezuela is in ascendence.

Or just show some good fashion sense in the classic Carlton Fisk

I'm saving my beans until the Cubs release the 1987 Andre Dawson road jersey (I love the hawk and the pinstripes), or the Glen Allen Hill 1998. Whatever comes first....

Also, somebody tell me something disgraceful about Andre Dawson so I get over my fanboy trip. Dude didn't pass my usual OBP test, but he raked it all-around Willie Mayes style when I was a kid, plus he didn't run like a jerk-off mercenary (those Dallas Green, blank check stories are ridiculous. Can you imagine that happening today? THOSE VILE COLLUSIONIERS).

HEY! The Cubs are going to be in DC on my birthday! Any advice on tickets at RFK? My disposition is to buy the cheapest one available and sneak down.

Sounds like the Cubs-Sox had a good game yesterday. Too bad Ozzie copped out and called it after nine. Out of pitchers? I AIN'T BUYING IT.

You can usually do this, though a crowd much larger than normal shows up for the Cubs in DC. So, I might not bet on this for this series. Any other series, I'd say go for it. You could still try though. If you aren't feeling like it, then get tix on either baseline in the UD. They aren't bad. I've been to RFK a handful of times, have always sat in the UD and haven't been dissapointed. It isn't a great stadium, but the sight lines are decent.

although from what i read it seems ozzie made the decision to not go extra innings before the 9th inning started and before the cubs rallied to tie the game at 4-4. eh, its spring training -- who cares? we'll duke it out in may.

Those look classy as hell, whatr you talking about.

Hah the C does seem off center doesn't it.

I'm having trouble justifying spending 32.99 on a hat.

Those are the most God awful hats I have ever seen. Who's ever idea it was to use that as a design should be shot.

Nah yr wrong, the hats look awesome. My only reservation sans absurd price is that they do kind of have a vaguely banger look going on.

Yeah. UGH-LEEE.

Anyhow, I'm a Cubs fan, so I had to vote Cubs. However, from a purely aesthetic point of view, while both the standard Cubs and Sox hats are very well designed, I think the Sox hat is less obtrusive and more flexible fashionwise with its blackletter font and black-and-white design. It's impossible to find an ensemble that will clash with that hat. It would look just as good on somebody in a suit as somebody in your basic shorts-and-tee outfit.
