Still no musical guest listed for this year's ACEN. People on the forums are clamoring for Dir En Grey but who knows if that will happen.
wakingrufus
word is that DEG is releasing their newest album (withering to death, 2005) in america in may. im hoping a tour will follow.
Saskadelphia
I have that album...it's fascinating stuff. People think Avenged Sevenfold are weird...this is insane. Metal, screamo, power ballads, industrial, pop, often all at the same time.

I'm new to Visual Kei...I need a good primer.

Playing (headlining!) at House Of Blues in Chicago, February 13.

How's The Marrow of Bone? My friend loves it but I've heard a lot of "oh waaa it's too experimental" from people.

conceived sorrow seems like an odd pick for the first track. usually their first track has a lot of energy.
wakingrufus
i dont know if im a fan of all the distortion on the vocals...

Is it me or is this album not as eclectic as their last one?

Still, not too shabby. Love the first track.

its a great one, i just wish they didn't put it first.

overall, so far it isnt one of my favourites, but i see what they were going for and they did it well. their first 3 albums were: ok lets incorporate as many different variations and styles of metal into this visual kei thing we got going, but their last 3 have been, ok lets settle on a certain sound and feel, and use that for a whole album, then change to a different sound and feel for our next album.

Yeah, they're definitely going for a more consistent sound here, a very US-friendly riff-oriented style. Lots of crunch (paging velocity!).

They're also on the new Family Values live CD, and along with the Deftones, are the only good band on there. They actually do "Ryoujuku No Ame" from the new album, and sound fantastic. I'd love to see this band. Like I complained before, they should be on the Taste of Chaos tour...bring this stuff to the kids! They'd dig it.

Edit: I'd like to find a better rip of this album, maybe I'll snag it on oink.

yeah the one you linked is apparently a transcode of an original rip. But its sounds good enough to last me until i buy the album and make my own rip.

Listened to this band for the first time today. Very impressed indeed; I'll have to delve into their back catalogue.

The real rip (69 MB as opposed to the 57 MB transcode) appears to be available here.

Nice one!

so i recommend that anyone who likes the kind of music where the musicians create audible noises to see them live. That show was incredible. they played a very long time, i think they did like 5 or 6 encore songs. i lost track. Their performance was so much more inspired tonight vs. at the FVT. the crowd was really into and they were feeding off of it.
BEST CONCERT EVER.
also, i already respected kyo for his vocals, but tonight he really showed how he really can jsut pour his entire being out through his voice. the way he sang, youd think he was going to die tonight and this was his last performance ever.

sounds like a good show. i mean just thinking about this at the House Of Blues of all places (and hopefully it was a packed show) brings a smile to my face.

i dontt hink it quite sold out, but it was pretty packed in the pit.

Why do Japanese bands often have half of their song titles in all caps?

Sincere question.

Sincere question.

when japanese use roman letters amongst otherwise japanese writing, it is usually all caps.
for example, if you ahve a japanese input method installed on your computer, when you switch to japanese, and try to write roman letters, the japanese font only contains capital versions of the letters.

so why are some NOT all caps? i have no idea.

i heard Dir En Grey for the first time at my friends house the other night. They had a video through the Comcast On Demand music video section. The video was pretty cool.
