terrible post. fast car is 'lite and inoffensive'??? u are an idiot

that said i do agree that it gets better towards the end. but naw, 'rockin that shit' is still pretty amazing

Dont hate on me if you dig that weak shit. im not even saying that its bad, just alright.
Im just sayin it doesnt hold a candle to his best stuff: she needs my love, nikki, ditch that, love vs money 1&2, etc.
And best off of Love/Hate? dude, get the fuck out of here. laugh.gif

wow, are you kidding me? low replay value? nah, this things def got serious legs. i loved his first one and still go back to it alot, and im starting to think this one is even better.
Bleep Blop
Every person I have played this for has loved it.
wooooo
How a discussion about The-Dream's best songs goes without mention of "Falsetto" is beyond me.

And this album is good, but doesn't touch Love/Hate.
Chronodiggity
really glad you registered on this forum to make a post about The-Dream

this individual is clearly smitten:

wooooo
I've been lurking for awhile, just decided to register now.
BetamaxGuillotine
Yeah, this album is pretty fantastic. Just picked it up today.

How is Love vs. Money different from Love/Hate? I've been trying to find it to no avail. All his press for this record has him talking about how the new one is "just like the first one, but on crack" or some such shit.

this individual is clearly smitten:

seriously man, how are there enough hours in a day? My highest playcount of the last few years only equals your top playcount on this album.
Chronodiggity
didn't real think that was an unreal number of plays really.

with music the way it is today, it's harder to keep spinning the same record over and over when there's so much else you want to explore. a testament to this albums gravitational pull and staying power.

you should've seen me in my younger days when i was a real trooper:

and that was just a single weekend
Papa's Delicate Condition
Yup, if my math is right that comes out to about exactly a weekend of solid playing. I'm impressed. I think. But more confused.
Chronodiggity
a 6:15 song is 375 seconds, times 405 plays is 151,875 seconds of pure listening power. divided by 3600 seconds in an hour, it's 42.1875 hours, which is roughly 59% of the time contained in the days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

it was a busy weekend.
Vivian Darkbloom

I'd be ashamed to see a digital register of the number of times I've spun the new Mastodon over the past week.

It would confound space and time, like one of the weird Czarist mystical wormholes decribed in the album's baggy concept.
Chronodiggity
you should listen to The-Dream Vivian Darkbloom
wooooo
After all, The-Dream and Mastodon aren't too far off.
Chronodiggity
both over-the-top ridiculous bullshit for sure
Chronodiggity
hit The-Dream over at twitter guys and tell him how much you love the new album: http://twitter.com/RadioKilla
Jigga
ish is a classic.

On this late.

Thanks to Chronodiggity for this thread and bringing this to my attention.

Holy fuck, Chrono bringing the epicness once again. This shit is AMAZING. Thank you.

chiefstutter
Yeah, thanks for this chrono. Without this thread I never would have checked this out.
Chronodiggity
all fans of the album be sure to check out "Hater", the iTunes bonus track, which is a sparse 808-driven track but still hooks abounding. great storytelling.

this isn't as good as the best love vs. money songs, but it's got a pretty great rhythm to it, synth-poppy as fuck, lighter on the r&b and wanted to share this with whoever cares and hasn't heard it yet.

monotony
FINALLY listened to this for the first time today and was suitably impressed, even if it's far removed from what I would normally listen to.

I wikipedia-ed "The-Dream" and realised that he wrote "Umbrella"...and then I realised why the album was so decent.
Chronodiggity
the genius at work:

i took a break from this but i'm back already. pitch perfect from start to finish. it has so much going for it. The-Dream is a consistent voice and a character. the songs come in couplets that give it a coherent storytelling aspect (Rockin' That Shit/Walkin' on the Moon, My Love/Put It Down/Sweat it Out, Take You Home to My Momma/Love vs. Money/Love vs. Money 2, Fancy/Right Side of My Brain, Mr. Yeah/Kellys 12 Play, and if you want to do this, Hater/Let Me See the Booty). this music is fun first and substance second, which allows the 'message' to breathe freely and not collapse under the weight of over-seriousness. Love vs. Money is about dancing, and being sexy, and bitches, and money, and other niggas gettin in your shit and you gettin right back in it. but mostly, listening to this record makes me want to fuck everything in sight. i love it, i love it, i love it.

Great vid. i was grinning like an idiot the whole time. I love how that playfulness in the studio carries over to the album proper.

So who will be voting for this in the decade album polls? I'll have it top twenty probably.

Still can't bring myself to download this shit. Mostly because Chrono likes it.

The production on this is, well, a dream. It's one of the best sounding R&B/pop/whatever records I've heard in ages. The-Dream's 'record persona' gets a bit tedious for me after a while though. Dude has nothing on someone like Prince.

oh snap

The thing is that Prince seems like a genuine freak, whereas The-Dream seems like he's just playing Kells in a made-for-TV movie. But that production is just so fucking unreal that I can forgive his posturing.

where does The-Dream persona rely on being a freak at all? it's 100% sex and money, not being some sort of creepy midget deviant.

as that video in the studio shows, he diverges from his Kelly/Prince influences in that he seems like a fun-loving, normal dude.

because this board is terribly moderated?

so i was stoned last week and listened to lvsm with a very patient friend. and as we discussed the merits of the album's instrumentation vs. vocals + lyrics, and all of a sudden i had some incredible stoned insight. i thought about all the old great composers, and what if when beethoven was writing his third symphony, he was really just thinking that "her titties like whooo-ooo-oo, her booty like whooo-ooo-ooo". i mean, totally feasible.

this thread is the only remaining reason i love this board. that kanye thread is getting me down with its terrible reasoning and arguments. every time i try to explain to my friends why that titties/booty line is so great, the just kinda look at me like a crazy pervert. you dudes are all alright.

new album

QUOTE
The "Umbrella" songwriter and solo artist tells Billboard.com he's "seven records in on a new album," tentatively titled "Love King" and targeted for a December release. "I have to pace myself 'cause there's so much time between here and then," The-Dream says, "but the seven records I do have are timeless records. Whether they come out now or later it's not really going to matter what kind of records they are."

Timeless. Well, I'm sold.

Still talk of a Kanye/Dream album? I'd also enjoy that.

in the article he talks of a record he made with diddy that's as good if not better than 'umbrella'
