That's pretty cool. I want to see one of every super hero eventually. I can't wait to see the Avengers.

There's room for both.
But in that respect, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine film looks terrible. Of course it's got Ryan Reynolds in it, so that's a strike right away.

There are over 70 comic book films released this year by Hollywood or currently in development. Ridiculous.

But this film is sure to be a staggering Masterpiece and the subject of a 10 page thread. Just like The Watchmen, The Dark Knight and Iron Man, all of which promptly took their place in the cinematic pantheon right next to 'The Passion of Joan of Arc' and 'Celine and Julie Go Boating' !
Until the next comic book masterpiece comes along.

Ant-Man
Avengers
Untitled next Batman movie
Black Hole
Button Man
Captain America: The First Avenger
Deathlok
Doom Patrol
The Flash
Green Lantern
Hack/Slash
The Haunted World of El Superbeasto
Hulk Vs (DtV)
Iron Man 2
Madman
Magneto
Nick Fury
Red Sonja
Ronin
Shazam!
Spawn 2
Spider man IV
Spiderman V
Teen Titans: The Judas Contract
Thor
Venom
Watchmen
Whiteout
The Witchblade
Wonder Woman
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
That's 33 Hollywood films I found that are this year, 2010-12 on Wikipedia. Sure there are another 15 or so. 70 figure I was quoted was probably including Western non-Hollywood stuff.

And every single one a future masterpiece. If I say anything negative about any of them here I'll be greeted with 'Tony likes Billy Joel' level dismissals.

Highly doubt Hollywood is going to make a film about a homosexual talking French Gorilla in love with a disembodied talking brain in a pickle jar.
Hell will freeze over before Doom Patrol ever sees celluloid print.

That is true,
Spawn 2 is going nowhere and
Doom Patrol is based on a comment made three years ago. However once you factor in comic strips as well to this list as well it retains it's length.
Imagine what the combined total of their budgets are (and yes, I'm aware it'll be dwarfed by the takings) would be nice if one got junked and a studio spread $150m around to other directors / writers.

I do agree the superhero genre is being overdone on screen. A lot of those films are almost nothing like the books or characters they are based on.
Films tend to approach comics as though they are still being written by Julie Scwartz or Stan Lee.

Of course,I don't feel that way about the Timm animation studio at all!
Everything DC Direct have released has ranged from great to amazing. Bruce Timm can do no wrong in my eyes.
Wonder Woman was terrific and can't fucking wait for Green Lantern: First Flight. Going to pre-order the Blu-ray asap.
Damo Suzuki
Apr 10 2009, 09:05 AM
My one complaint with the Timm-verse is that I would have liked a little more synergy between the current comics and the classic origins the Timm-verse are doing.
They are going to do Hal Jordan's origin, fine. But why not drop in elements Johns re-told in Green Lantern: Secret Origin?
Makes sense with Blackest Night approaching and the industry waiting for the Corps War with bated breath.
Damo Suzuki
Apr 10 2009, 09:26 AM
Of course, I do recognize that the nature of these DCAU films is such that adding current elements would date them a bit. But still,
as a fan, I would like to see how Sinestro gets a yellow ring & forms the yellow corps on screen if only once.

Well, I'll be the first (EDIT: Didn't read page 2 before I wrote this, so I now know I'm not the first) to say I'm interested in seeing this. With Batman: Gotham Night and the last Justice League film, Warner/DC have made very interesting straight to DVD animations.

Agreed. I wasn't crazy about some of the voice casting (though Neil Patrick Harris as Flash was spot on), but I really enjoyed it. The 2-DVD set is pretty great.

They say the Hal/Sinestro fight is going to be ridiculous. Supposedly, almost as brutal as Wonder Woman's opening fight sequence. And that's saying something if you've seen Wonder Woman.

Just read the free Blackest Night preview issue. I'm intrigued--but there's no way I'll be buying issues to keep up with the story. It's been YEARS since I've kept up with comics via monthly issues, and even when I was at the height of my collecting days, I never managed to keep up with a single cross-title event.
That said, and even though I hate questions like this: where is a good place to start with Green Lantern? I'm intrigued by the character, but have never read anything solely (or mainly) about him. I just know enough to be dangerous.

He's okay to look at (except...what's with the brackets on his forehead?). Also unfamiliar w/ his work--only lasted through a couple minutes of Definitely, Maybe.
On second thought, he looks like a grown-up Haley Joe Osment. Pass.

Green Lantern: First Flight
Another solid movie from DC. I have yet to read the book this is based on. It did answer finally answer the question of why Abin Sur was in a spaceship.
If the live action is half as good as this flick, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
