I downloaded the Suckers EP today from iTunes. The four tracks on the EP are all great. This is Quinn Walker's band, who has awed a lot of us here with his vast discography of personal recordings. Also worth checking out this video of them performing "It get's your body movin'" at SXSW (Link originally posted by Winjer). I'm thinking they'll be big, all of the tracks have the potential to stick in my head for days.

All four songs are amazing in a completely different way, and if you go on youtube they have a bunch of other amazing songs they play live...

My eyes have detected nothing so far, maybe let us know when it happens?

The first time I heard It Gets Your Body Movin' I was expecting a dance track (mostly because of the name) but needless to say I wasn't disappointed in the least when by the time I figured out it wasn't going to be. I love the sort of epic build up this song has and of course it has the great whistle in it. I love ep too, anyone know when they'll be releasing a full length album?

I really didn't like a whole lotta that Quinn Walker album that so many of you raved about. It just largely fell flat to me. But this Suckers EP on the other hand. Now there is a nice collection of songs. I'd certainly like to hear more from taht group of youngins, I sure would....

_______
so 2 nites in a row with Walker and The Suckers, huh?

i'll take it.

Been listening to this a lot lately.

Opening for Pink Mountaintops at the Bottle tonight, then some other band at Beat Kitchen tomorrow. Huzzah!
kingsleadhat
Only played 2 songs off the EP, plus "Save Your Love For Me", plus a few I didn't recognize. Great songs, but they need to work on their live act. Pretty sloppy, and not in the good way.
_______
thinking about going to the Beat Kitchen show tonight.
phlowtron
I'm def going tonight. they opened last night right? wondering what spot they'll play tonight...

That's too bad. Hopefully they improve by the time they make it out to the west coast.

Good stuff. I eagerly await a full-length from them

Suckers (re)release Save Your Love For Me single? I'm having a hard time forming any kind of coherent reaction to this yet. EP still rules and the original version of this song still gets played weekly 'round my parts.

yeah, heard this version. it's good, but only good. quinn's version was crazier, and superior overall.
faraway
I think Suckers version is much better and I was a big fan of the original. The new intro is great, love the piano. Quinn's vocals aren't as goofy and are actually more dynamic. The biggest difference though is having live drums instead of a drum machine, really makes the song.

I do miss "shave your body, shave your mind" though.

I'm really looking forward to this one. The EP was a great surprise last year.

i like every song (knew most already from prereleases/daytrotter) but it seems kind of unrelenting... I feel like I need a couple quinnstrumental spaceouts mixed in to catch my breath.

im too biased with these guys tho... need to give it a few weeks at least to pass any kind of real judgement. iono whether to hope this gets a BNM from pitchfork or not.

'black sheep', 'before your birthday ends', and 'a mind i knew' are so good...
_______
i'm hearing a lot of David Byrne in these songs today.
arkin
I really like this album. "A Mind I Knew" is incredible.
Pygmy
Didn't see what was so great about these guys before now, daytrotter and ep didn't do it for me but I'm liking the album.
stephen thomas erlewine
apropos of the pitchfork review being posted today, finally got around to listening to this album last week/this weekend, and i really like it more than expected. some songs sound like throwbacks to the best cyhsy shit of the mid 00s, and the rest sounds like it was aiming to sound like let's dance b-sides. less talking heads-y than i expected too. just good, solid nair, with just the right amount of glammish peacockery. if the hooks dig in deep enough, this might end up as one of my favorite albums of the year.

just good, solid nair...

i hate this term so much.

define NAIR...

Archers Of Loaf were a North American Indie Rock band and this sounds nothing like them.
Pedro The Lion were a North American Indie Rock band and this sounds nothing like them.
No Age are a North American Indie Rock band and this sounds nothing like them.
Wolf Parade are a North American Indie Rock band and this sounds nothing like them.

NAIR
stephen thomas erlewine
whoa there. i can't say i ever use the term non-facetiously. usually only employ it preemptively, because i know that at some point in the conversation someone will jump in and accuse this band (or any non-fringe indie band from na) of being another generic indie rock band. i mean, last year sunset rubdown was being pegged as nair, when they're pretty fair from the popular norm. then again, mitchell is in south africa right now.

so yeah, no harm meant. it's a dumb term, but one that's used often enough that to ignore it seems pointless. if you want to vent, though:
