I attended a Hockey game last night and all I can say is WOW! By far the best live sport. Non stop action. What can they do to make it better on t.v.? Mic up the boards so we hear louder checks. Make the home goal buzzer louder. Maybe even mic the players. It's awesome!

NBA - the game itself has changed so much, it doesn't seem like basketball that I play. It bores me. I do like to see teams going back to a team game and strong defense, though.
NHL - pretty fun live, but the (almost) non-stop action takes a lot of fans out of the game. (low attention span, i guess) too much talking.
MLB - great fun to attend a game (at any ballpark, but especially here in Chicago where we have two nice stadiums), but tends to be more about the food and drink for a lot of people. i enjoy the food and drink, but love to keep score and sit with the old-timers and chat about days long gone.
NFL - my favorite of the major four. especially in Chicago, where fans are rabid and we have good rivalries. the least amount of games of the major four contributes to making it more "special". lots of tailgating...it can be the centerpiece of your week, too.

I voted hockey. Of the big four it has the least amount of down time/TV time outs.
Baseball is always better in person than on TV. Most TV coverage is deplorable and gives you little to no idea of how the team on the field is positioned for defense.
NFL is good, but too many TV time outs. Takes me out of the game.

Hockey live used to be fun before the United Center opened.
Going to the ballpark is a gas, but I prefer going to a minor league park.
I've never been to a Bears game, but I used to go see preseason Denver Broncos games in the 1970's. They were awful, but fun.
I have no paitence for basketball, though. It bores me to tears.

I voted NFL. The rules of the sport are designed to make every game as dramatic as possible; and it's probably my favorite pro sport. MLB is a close second for me...it just doesn't have the same excitement factor because of its speed; but there's nothing like hanging at the ballpark on a nice day watching a great pitching duel.

I know you know this, but from the US point of view, the four major pro sports leagues are MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL.
However, an arguement can be made that NASCAR has overtaken the NHL for #4.

I have the most fun at a baseball game so I went with that. But that says more about the preference for summer weather than anything else. Football (americano) is my favorite pro sport but I sometimes enjoy it more on TV. Even though, in person, you get to pay more attention to the action away from the ball (blocking/coverage/etc.) which is a plus.
So yeah, baseball . . . unless it's a Sox game.

Hockey's great fun to see in person, whether it's junior, college, or pro. I see maybe one NHL game every two years, and I always enjoy every second of it, watching the warm-up, etc. I was a half hour late for the Avs-Oilers game I saw this season...that was no fun. Junior hockey playoffs have just started up here, so I hope to go to a couple games.
Baseball's completely different, but nearly just as huge an event for me. I haven't been to a game in so long now.
No desire to see an NBA game. It must be weird watching such a tiny court fromt the cheap seats.

hockey has the biggest gap between enjoyment on tv vs. live. there is simply no way that the intracacies of the game can be translated to tv well enough for the average sports fan to care. while i'd say that hockey camera operators are probably overall more talented than many of their contemporaries in other sports, the game is just too quick.
baseball is tolerable on television, but a nice day at the ballpark is better than any other live sports event.
i've never been to an NFL game, but i see a lot of college games and i'd rather watch it on television. for one thing, most football games are played in cold weather that i don't want to sit in for 3 hours. and there are a plethora of breaks, too.

I'd go along with NoMag here on televised hockey. The other problem with televised hockey is that the horizontal view is really only about 2/3rds of the ice, and you follow the puck. As a result, you miss on some of the big moves off camera-- you don't get to see the defence set up.

yeah, this is a good point. a lot of substantial play happens away from the puck in hockey. with other sports, it's easy to get away with just focusing on the object in play and not lose much.

OLN is ruining televised hockey...they zoom in too close, the camera follows the puck, so it's herky-jerky. Unbearable to watch.

Exactly. At my first game, seeing the plays develop
so fast! on such a small surface made me realize how pointless it is to try to watch it on tv. Nothing beats live hockey for speed & excitement--even if the play is sloppy.
Still, I do love me some baseball--going to opening day (SF v Atl) next week! One thing I miss about San Jose is going to the SJ Giants games for about $3. Guess I should go to more As games.

NFL. Now, that being said, my live NFL spectating over the last 15 years has been done in Arrowhead Stadium. Which, I suspect, has an entirely different feel from the spaceship on the lake. I love going to Wrigley - hell, I live 7 blocks down the street, but I'll take a game at Arrowhead any day over the friendly confines. The game is just more intense.

I try to get up to Infineon as often as possible, whether it be for NASCAR, the NHRA Nationals, the Wednsday Night Drags, or to hit the Kart track. The parking/traffic hasn't improved much for the NASCAR race, which is attended by 130,000 people each year. One just has to go up there hella early. The track is only 40 minutes from my house, so if I leave before 6:30am I can be in the parking lot by 7:30am. If I wait until 9:00am to leave I will be fortunate to get into the lot before the green flag drops at 1:00. After the race is over, forget about it. Just kick back and drink some beer and take in the beautiful wine country scenery, and maybe in three or four hours you will be able to get out of the lot. (Or just try to find your way to the gate 9 entrance/exit and take Lakeview Highway up to Petaluma and double back down the 101.
