"The E.N.D" stands for "The Energy Never Dies", which describes his model for a project that will be living and frequently updated throughout its designated cycle. "It's a diary [...] of music that at any given time, depending on the inspiration, you can add to it," the artist/producer/songwriter explains."I'm trying to break away from the concept of an album. What is an album when you put 12 songs on iTunes and people can pick at it like scabs? That's not an album. There is no album anymore."
So, how was this new living project supposed to be different from an album? Cause right now it looks like a bunch of songs.

Highly Recommended "Space Music" that predates or surpasses the
insulting New Age tag
Tangerine Dream -- Phaedra, Rubicon
Klaus Schulze -- Mirage, Moondawn
Steve Roach -- Structures From Silence, Mystic Chords and Sacred Spaces
Constance Demby -- Sunborne
John Serrie -- And The Stars Go With You

Been listening to this loads since Rob mentioned it earlier in the year. Have you got the version with the bonus track

The piece was actually recorded in 76, 6 months before the album for some obscure Dutch film. It might be my favourite thing by him.

My local record store has everything from HEALTH to Boredoms to Gang Gang Dance to King Crimson in one giant 'Avant-Garde' section. Pretty much all the good music gets shoved there and I feel like a tool because it just looks pretentious.

Yeah - I'd say about 150 LPs
mostly early electronics
lots of french shit
some obscure Welsh folk/prog/psych
lots of misc oddities like this:

The problem is he’s a mad old dog so some records are in the wrong sleeves and the condition varies from mint to disgraceful. I became a little disheartened with the project when I found two Philips' Prospective 21e Siecle discs both warped to shit.

I've got the entire Tangerine Dream catalog on vinyl. Picked up originals of the whole ouvre at Amoeba for a buck a piece.
That plus loads of Klaus Schulze and Edgar Froese solo slabs.
I have that Eric Satie album as well.
Dad also had this awesome experimental/ electronic phase, and I inherited all his cool Stewart Dempster/ Pauline Oliveros/ Lou Harrison/ Xenakis/ Penderecki wax, which I once made the mistake (in high school) of trying to snuggle up to during a particularly vivid lysergic experience. <shudders>

That's Bowie's sax - er, it is a bit jarring.
I have this theory that Bowie's records started to suck when he stopped playing his own sax parts, and left it to professionals. He's underrated as a musician - guitar or sax.

I knew it was a horn - didn't know it was him playing it, though. It abruptly ruins an otherwise great pop song. That'd be a nice thread if it hasn't been done already: bad codas/song endings.

Not really that weird: Producers of TV news tend to be younger and music fans, and that instro portion was used to great effect in
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou a few years back - it's kind of a go-to piece of bed music.

That insufferable Lady Gaga song "Poker Face" (with the racy cut up sample that makes the chorus outro sound like "fuh-fuh-fuh-fuck her face-fuh-fuh-fuck her faaaaace") shares a chorus with Glenn Frey's "You Belong to the City." They're even in the same key.

Got out of the shower this morning to find the missus dancing around the bathroom with the baby to college radio - I helplessly joined in when the jock kid played a track by The Dimes called "Catch Me Jumping". Anybody heard this tune? I hadn't. I just wrote it down on a Post-It note & looked up the record title, though: The Silent Generation. G'bless college radio to the 9th degree.
Full disclosure: another to-buy title on the Post-It note is Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair.

Decided just this week that I need to investigate the entire Kinks discography, something I have neglected to do all my life. I've always liked the hits, but for whatever reason never put the time in to explore more. Downloaded the first three albums (The Kinks, Kinda Kinks, and The Kink Kontroversy), and have been spinning them. Pretty good stuff, if not indicative of what a hundred other British bands were doing at the time. From what I understand things start to get more interesting from the 4th album (Face to Face) on. Should be a fun ride.

I listened to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway for the first time yesterday, I'd never heard any of that old Genesis stuff from the 70s. And I found it to be really enjoyable and quite compelling...that is, before the protagonist winds up chasing his dick down a river. Then things just got silly.

David Byrne absolutely KILLED it down at the Greek tonight. Busted out all sorts of Eno goodness (including a cut from My Life in the Bush of Ghosts), five tunes from Remain in Light, second encore with "Road to Nowhere" and "Burning Down the House" accompanied by a full carnival freakout marching band from Oakland with football halftime arrangements. Awesome.
Fucking GREAT show. Wow.
