this Ducktails "record" sucks... so many bands/people getting attention lately WAY before they are ready for their close up. this just sounds like someone learning how to multi-track or something. definitely not a record...

Kept listening to "The Sprawl" because I swore I remembered the hook resolving on a lower point at some stage in the song. Turns out I was thinking of the hook from "Reena" instead. Glad I figured that out.

Anyone see the piece on the making of Cirque du Soleil's Love, featuring all Beatles tracks? Endorsed by everyone you'd think, plus George Martin brought his session tapes and some of those were incorporated. Really fun to hear different takes on songs, isolated vocals, lots of chatter and John's acoustic demo of "Strawberry Fields." You almost forget they were God-hating communist devils.

Rock gossip:
I was out last night with a friend of mine, John Petkovic, who's lead singer/main force behind Cobra Verde. He tells me he's also working on 4 other music projects. Two of them are fairly high profile.
He and J Mascis have put together a band called Sweet Apple. It's a glam rock sound. Which makes sense as Cobra Verde would be considered that as well. Look for a March release.
He's also working on a project with Pat Carney, drummer for the Black Keys. Says it sounds like Jimmy Webb/Glen Campbell. That'll also be first half of 2010.

Good news. Seeing Carney's side-project, Drummer, in October. Keep the side projects coming!

Relient K (lol) on one of their albums have a hidden track which to hear you have to rewind the first track as soon as it starts. That's my favorite way I've seen it done.

Umphrey's does that as well on their album "Anchor Drops". It's not a hidden song, though, it just says "I eat h-i-p-p-i-e-s."

Most of the time, the method of hiding hidden tracks is an annoyance.
Notable exception: Mercury Rev's "Car Wah Hair" on
Yrself is Steam, where it fades out, counts upward to 69, and then spins into one of the album's best songs that sounds like awesomely washed out Flaming Lips circa
Clouds Taste Metallic.

That's what's annoying. Why force fans to listen to 69 seconds of dead air, or 130, or 420. DAMMIT. That 'rewind' method is the ticket.

Avril Lavigne files for divorce from Sum 41 rocker
(AP) – 1 hour ago
LOS ANGELES — Court records show Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce from her musician husband after three years of marriage. Lavigne filed for divorce from Sum 41 singer Deryck Jason Whibley on Friday in Los Angeles.
The couple were married in July 2006 and have no children together. Lavigne cited "irreconcilable differences."
The 25-year-old punk-pop singer burst to fame with her 2002 debut album "Let's Go."
Lavigne is asking a ruling to block Whibley from receiving spousal support.
Court records show Whibley was granted a request to add Lavigne's last name to his name in December 2007.

The football team. Dan Marino was in that video making a goofy face at that point of the song.
I assume Darius Rucker is a Dolphins fan and the Dolphins haven't really done anything of note since getting creamed in the '84 Super Bowl. Thus, the Dolphins make Darius Rucker cry.
