Jonsi from Sigur Ros likes Iron Maiden. For some reason i found this a little surprising and very cool.

He was a guest dj on the All Songs Considered show

I could've started a thread about how inexplicably this pop masterpiece has been off the somb's radar (it got only one vote (not mine) in the '65-'74 singles poll). Also considered requesting it in the scratchy 45s thread. Regardless, here it is for your listening pleasure.

Undeniably the Guess Who's best song, it features a bossa nova beat, Wes Montgomery-esque guitar tones, JAZZ FLUTE, an interesting bass line, and scat singing by Randy Bachman. Drop acid or throw a beach party to fully enjoy its brilliance:

Funny, i've had this in my head since hearing it on Sirius yesterday. Definitely my favorite Guess Who song.. Never realized until seeing it on the LCD display yesterday how it was spelled, don't know why but that suprised me.

Haven't bought any vinyl in months, and it doesn't feel right. Considering all the stuff that comes out next month, though, I see that being temporary.
samsquanch
I don't think "indie" and "lo-fi" should really be considered genres. They seem to be more about the economics of how the music is distributed and recorded.

But I guess "I'm a poor bastard, who likes to make recordings on analog tape in my bedroom, because I can't afford a hire producer" wouldn't fit, so we go stuck with "lo-fi".

I don't care much for HWJr, but this is pretty darn good.

Is anyone still listening to Them Crooked Vultures? Seems like that band had so much potential, but they released a real dud.

Thanks. About average condition. Scratches, varnish is chipping a bit in spots, some rusting on the tail piece. Had a new pick guard put on since the original celluloid guard had warped. Still, it sounds and plays like a dream.

I love archtop guitars - especially the ones that have "Gibson" on the headstock.

Nice indeed. No Atlas Sound.

Opened with a 10-15 minute piece inspired by/derived from the Witch Cults record and I think that project has really influenced the direction of their next record. Lots of new stuff had that Ghostbox/Trunk Records/Wicker man feel to it. Some of it towards the end - I kid you not - was pretty much medieval folk music played on Korgs. I loved it. Mrs Badger didn't. They did only 2 of the hits - Corporeal and Black Cat - and they played for one hour and 20 seconds (that is, 20 seconds after the tailored film running on the wall finished). No encore. The whole thing fell somewhere between 'interesting' and great.

Is it me or is this year shaping up to be epic for new music?

From my 52 yr. young perspective, and I'm a minority amongst my peers I assure you, I'll rank the decades in music. Sorry but I'll disregard the 50's as it was a singles era.

'60's
'70's
00's
80's
90's

And if this year is an indication of the '10's I'm looking forward to it.

What do you heads recommend I should pick up after work if I say I've been playing Endtroducing... a ton lately?

Kool Keith's first project. there's also an instrumental version of the album which may be more in line with Entroducing.

Sixtoo, Daedalus, maybe some Cut Chemist. Also, that new Flying Lotus Cosmogramma is pretty smooth and Shadow-esque in places.

I'd like to see a list of what you think are the 20 best albums from each decade...I dont think the noughties even have 20 grrrreat albums.

Solid take. I love those first three Preemptive Strike tracks (especially love the Star Wars-sample- "the tracks go off in this direction," with the chilly Bartok strings floating out across the mix and then the chilled out downtempo beat kicks in).

That Augustus Pablo is boss too. Made my Top 100 of all time, as a matter of fact. If you can find the wax, this one's also killer:

Just used Ticketmaster for the first time in maybe two years. The service charge + convenience fee, etc. ended up totaling more than a third ticket would have been. Seems like over time it's just getting worse.

Just had lunch at a veggie place in backstreet Soho. Billy Childish was on the next table. Seems like a lovely bloke. He was meeting a handsome young actor-doofus and a stereotypical casting agent. I'm not a gambling man but I'd bet on there being a Billy Childish biopic in pre-production.

KEXP is playing the Star Wars theme, in its entirety, and I keep flailing my arms around like a conductor...oooh, Star Wars theme with Luke & Yoda dialogue mixed into some hip hop break beats.

Perhaps it's the end of an era. I spaced out on the time, logged in at 10:01 to buy a Tool ticket and did, in fact, get one by 10:07.

This photo is only significant to Cleveland folk.
Last Friday The Midlife Chryslers played at the Euclid Tavern (made famous as the bar where the band played in the movie Light Of Day). Yes, that's Michael Stanley and Eric Carmen, who performed together for the first time ever.
