so yeah, just found out about this cool little motherfucker called a kaoss pad. evidently those sexy fucks in animal collective use a bunch of korg shit, but these kaoss pads look like it's where it's fucking at. AND THIS GUY HAS TAKEN IT UPON HIMSELF TO MOD THEM TO GUITARS.
Well they look pretty cool. Dunno how useful though. The first sounds like melodically controllable 1950s b-movie flying saucer noises and the little bit I made it into the second video sounded like that sweet toy gun from the early 90s with the ten or so different built-in "shooting" sound effects. Anyone? Haha I loved the one that was just like a medley of ten second snippets of each effect. Like that Boredoms title track on Pop Tatari that is entirely made up of pieces of the songs on the album leading up to it. Ahh sorry, I'm on drugs.

I became similarly interested in the Kaoss pad a few months ago and managed to hunt down the original model used at a Guitar Center for 70 bucks. It's probably the single greatest effects thingy/device I've played with (twenty times more fun than the korg giga delay or what have you)
It has about 50 individual settings which can be adjusted to the users specifications. It's pretty useful for live looping and making things sound generally fucked up. Best part is it works well for just about whatever the hell you feel like plugging in to it (Running a theremin through it has been scientifically proven to make heads explode). I guess the dude from Muse uses the guitar mod live, but from every video I've seen, it pretty much understates the capabilities of the thing and costs a shit ton of money to do.
Most obvious example of the KP being implemented on a record is Kid A, and it's all over the place on that one.

That shit was all over Kid A and YHF.
Edit - I recall Jay Bennett giving a demo of this in the I Am Trying To Break Your Heart movie.

I'm guessing that's homemade? I have a friend who's really into circuit bending. A little more sleek-looking then all those fucked up spray painted speak-and-spells.
apparently he made it using the circuit board from one of those kids voice changing microphones. the kind that can make you sound like an alien or a robot or some odd whatnot.
