Shaping up to be another great season (possibly the show's last)
Forest 'Droopy Eye' Whitaker is great as Mackey's foil. I'm wondering if he's talking to Shane's wife and we it isn't being shown to us yet.
I can't help but root for Vic, even though he's a cop killer.
A little too much man ass in last night's show. We need to see more of the new female cop.
shit
there is no way to edit my typo in the title and there's no spell chucker #@%$*!

I've got that show on my list of things to watch through Netflix. Never seen an episode but heard great things about it.
I used to love watching The Commish years ago!

I guess I'm in the minority (thus far), but I don't think this season is doing as well, and I really don't like Forest Whitaker's character (which I was surprised about, cause I really like him as an actor). The Shield (and Vic Mackey as a character) is definitely in my top 5 shows on tv... but I've always thought the show's one major flaw, in light of the way Vic Mackey has developed, is that Mackey murdered a cop.
During the last three seasons, we have seen that Mackey, while he may be a dirty cop, definitely has a sense of justice and conscious, and I just can't believe that sensibility would include murdering a fellow police officer. So while the murder made for a great series beginner, I just never thought it jibed with the rest of the show...and now this season is heavily focused on the one thing I don't like about the show.

I love Vic!! Glad to see them broadening Lem's character. Forest is amazing. Ever since the season opener, I've been offering people gum

Right? The gum thing is excellent. I have loved the Shield (and Rescue Me) since day one. Love the gritty TV.

Poo. That's not soon. Ah well, 3-4 months of teasers

Pretty soon, this stuff is gonna be like Sopranos. Years in between the seasons, just waiting so long that noone cares anymore. Or at least, the show loses relevance and coherence.

I miss Rescue Me already, with all the stinkin' reality shows, stuff like Shield is so good in comparison.

Rescue Me has debuted in June like clockwork.
The Shield debuted in January every season save for last year when it debuted in March.
F/X is much better at keeping a schedule than HBO is. But aside from Nip/Tuck, The Shielf and Rescue Me, they haven't been able to put out compelling new product. That new show with Andre Braugher looks very promising, however.

i enjoyed it's always sunny in philadelphia last year quite a bit. it kind of bothers me that fx is ripping all of the shield logos, etc. in their advertisements for thief. thief does look like a good show though...so i'll still check it out.

Agree with the gum. As for his character, the overall story allmost demanded someone like him to come in and investigate.
All the interviews I've seen have said that Vic killing his partner in the begining don't fit his character and that they regrete doing it, but at the time they needed something to shock the audience. I love how Vic has developed though into a bad cop who does the wrong things but for the right reasons.
And I can't wait for Rescue Me either.

The Shield has been greenlit for a sixth season. No one at FX will confirm, but very reliable sources say series creator Shawn Ryan has decided there's enough creative juice left to carry on for one more season. The show is currently in production on Season 5's final 10 episodes, slated to debut in early '07.

Boooo! Everything so far about the 5th season indicates that they're wrapping it all up (strong references to each previous season, the imminent arrest/death/retirement of Vic, the fucking finale). They should finish on top and not turn into The Sopranos

Tonight is the season premire of the next to last season of the Shield.
It's going to be interesting to see if Mackey figures out it was Shane that killed Lem.
