Its not sour grapes about him not being a Bull. It's all about how he handled this. I would've been fine with him staying with Cleveland.
This was decided a long time ago and it was a dog and pony show.

I agree with you in principle, but I still like the letter. LeBron opened this can of worms and created the circus. The Cavs are just fighting back, fighting fire with fire. At the end of the day the Cavs are still a business, and the management has to get its fan base energized. The letter's not a horrible way to get the troops fired up. Sometimes you have to tell people what they want to hear, not the truth, in order to march forward.
As for the tv conference last night, a few observations: obviously it was a douche-fest, but fucking LBJ referring to himself in the third person? That's just a cliched douche-fest. I can't believe how many times he said how much he helped Cleveland? Helped them with what? Quitting in the playoffs while making you a millionaire dozens of times over?

some people will bring up team chemistry and shit, but let's get real.. miami will fucking dismantle every team that they come across.
the real problem lies with maximum individual salaries, which allows for a complete farce like this to happen. a player like lebron should get paid $25-30 mil a year, because that's he's worth to his team. the fact that a max is set at $16.6 means that players ranging from joe johnson & amare to players like lebron and wade all sign for similar salaries. no way should one team be able to sign lebron, wade, and bosh. it's just a complete fucking joke.

I hate the Lakers because I hate Kobe Bryant, and I hate Kobe Bryant slightly less because of Kobe Bryant than because of the fact that so many NBA "fans" are so ignorant of the game as to suggest that he is as good or better than Michael Jordan. Even a glancing look at something we call "career stats" would dispel this notion, but alas (for example, something as simple as PPG--Jordan's CAREER average is higher than all but two of Bryant's seasons...and two seasons, it should be noted, that the Lakers failed to make it out of the first round). As for the people I know, this is the abridged version of the prevailing opinion and motivation thereof. I can't speak for everyone else, though.

Another gem...
Bryant's highest PPG average came in '05/'06. A very, very impressive 35.4. But he shot at .450.
Jordan's highest PPG average came in an era where teams were allowed to play defense and game 7s weren't turned by officiating crews in favor of Kobe Bryant...but I digress. It was in '86/'87, and it was a terrifying 37.1, at .482. That's slightly less comparatively impressive than his most similar to Bryant's peak season--in '87/'88, he somehow averaged 35.0 while shooting .535. Those are inhuman numbers.
And as an added bonus, he never raped anybody. He's like the gift that keeps on giving.

I will cheer for the Heat. My reasons are predictable, if you know anything about my obsession with the sports-related BIG PICTURE, and my belief in right and wrong, rather than differences of opinion, in such matters. LBJ has already cemented his legacy as a villainous figure, and he has not joined forces with Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, etc.. This is the equivalent of Magic joining Bird in Boston, or the other way around. Kobe Bryant, on the other hand and as I've just mentioned, is inexplicably thought of as one of the greats (rather than a really fucking great player; there's a difference), and people are retarded and uninformed enough to believe that if he is part of another championship team or two, he will be the greatest of all time. This is inexcusable.
To right this wrong, the Heat need to win. At once, Bryant's legacy (which is partially deserved, mind you...just not to the current extent) will be slightly tainted by his losing in the finals to one of the most villainous figures in all of contemporary sports, and LBJ's will be further cemented as the guy who couldn't beat the best. He could only join them. It's perfect. Because it doesn't matter how many titles the Heat win, with this roster. They will be great, and I suppose they could eventually field the greatest team of all time. Who knows how the roster will shake down? It's way, way, way too early to tell. But it will all be hollow. Of course the Eastern Conference All-Star Team is one of the greatest teams of all time. Who gives a shit? It'll always look like a rigged game, and that sounds good to me. Sometimes, you've gotta break a few eggs. It might get messy, but it's still an omelet.
It's all about the big picture.
Tony
Jul 9 2010, 02:07 PM
Jordan comparisons regardless, Kobe is clearly one of the great players of all time and one of the great winners. I don't see anything wrong with the way he approaches the game.
